This may well be the answer to my '05 hardtop woes, I'll let you know!

Well, it's great advice. Some DIY jobs make more work than they repair, without proper conditions, materials and tools. To say nothing about learning about bumper repair on you $50K+ automobile! Thanks M3 - sounds likke good advice. Oh well - another DIY project down the drain.......................AK

I would only recommend them in a set of 4 as well. Winter driving would, IMHO, require it. No good having traction on drive wheels but no steering, for instance. Also completely worthless in braking.Yes, my dealer also recommended the same combination, but they only come in a set of four. Since my front tires are in a very good condition, I have decided to just change the back with the Michelin Sport PS2. I will seriously consider your recommendation in November when the weather gets really cold.Thank you for the advice!

I used ContiWinterContact TS810 S (Sport) Performance Winter tires and had great success with them this last Winter.

Glad to hear it, Joe!

**** fine idea! I've been blowing it off with high pressure air. It works well to dry whole vehicle prior to waxing as well.

My dealer ordered parts yesterday after i showed them the Porsche NA TSB. They were unaware of it.The control piston for this TSB is backordered until early April - very few parts in the USA at this moment. Get on a list at your dealer if you want it.On another note, they installed new exhaust clamps and added a tool for manual top control that was missing from the original kit.

Good to know! I'll still take mine in and have it listened to soon. If you are right, it's not a damaging problem but worth looking into.Sorry not sure what they did, the TSB came out about 4 weeks ago and my dealer The Porsche Centre in Colchester (UK) had been waiting for the TSB as they had a few cars with same fault.Although they did stress that this was not something that would damage the engine and was simply the oil pressure relief valve. Whatever they did it was minor as it only took 30 mins while I waited.
However I have trying it out over past day or so and its still there but much much quieter, I have to turn off the radio to hear it now. Personally I think its ok now as its so quiet and I have been reassured that its just the oil pressure relief valve working so not life threatening to engine.

When I started using a microfiber towel, I no longer had that problem! Give it a try.I use a washing mitt when the top needs to be shampooed. Then I use a lint roller to get rid of the lint when the top dries. -
I've only had it on there for a month. I drive this car everyday and everywhere. So I should be able to get a good idea real soon. I haven't needed it yet, but will use the RaggTopp cleaner when necessary. So far I've just rinsed it off with hose whilst washing car. I usually wash it every 3 days or so and wax of some sort every 2 weeks.I used RaggTopp Fabric Protectant for cloth tops. I cleaned the top first with their RaggTopp Fabric/Vinyl Cleaner and then when completely dry, I masked rubber, plastic and glass areas. I applied 3 full overlapping coats and allowed 20 minutes between. Water beads like nobody's business. Be aware, it takes awhile for the smell to dissipate! Otherwise? Very pleased.
This is my first convertable and I want to make sure it lasts .. from your experience (outside of the smell), about how long does this fabric protectant work for? Manufacturers sometimes put ... misleading ... information on their products (lasts a really long time, or only lasts 3 weeks so use more).
I never drive the car in rain and keep it parked in a garage. My enemies are fine particle dust and sunlight.
The smell was gone the next day, btw!
Do watch what you wash the top with as lint tends to stay easily. I'd suggest a good microfiber towel as they tend to leave no lint behind and are very gentle on surfaces.

Well, good to know I'm not completely bonkers. I'll keep my eye on this here and elsewhere. Thanks for speaking up, guys!

Is this capability only available on units with NAV?Interesting. We had the dealer retrofit nav as part of our purchase. They're having to go back and replace the nav unit, because the one installed didn't have this capability. I'm guessing they got an older unit out of the parts system, and didn't realize the difference, and that they had a customer who really cared about this capability.
The change was made in production around April 2005.

On my '05, none of the 3 (also one inside the center console) shut off at any time. Rather disappointing, actually.

New tires & wheels are on the Boxster. I'm ready for Winter now. Phew....it'll probably never snow now, but that's fine with me!
