  1. i recently fixed the rattle from my left muffler. I drove the car today to air my tires and got a CEL coming home.

my durametric says code p303, which i understand is a misfire. i noticed a small leak in cylinder 3 when i looked under the car. this is the first cel i got since acquiring the car last year, advice on how to proceed pls. TIA

  2. I am going to dealer soon for something similar. Here are my 2 cents, relative to my 1999, the 2003 C2 stops like crap sometimes. At low speeds, no issues. But at high speeds, as you said, I am concerned since I have to bury the pedal. Doesn't feel good, and I can compare back to back both cars braking on the same roads, same fluids, same pads.

Not sure what it is, all I can tell you is that one car stops amazingly fast at all speeds, the other doesn't. Also makes for less than perfect track days, as I am leery to brake as late with the '03 as I was with the '99. I am not sure if there is any logic to decrease braking power at high speed or not. Our local dealer is pretty good, so will let you know what they say and get back to you.

But I have seen the difference

i look forward to hearing from you soon. thanks

  3. A little more context would probably help us to advise you. Have you been driving Porsches for years or is the '99 C4 new to you? My experience is that Porsche brakes are not heavily boosted and do require a lot more pedal pressure than many other cars. I think this is a good thing. It allows you to modulate the braking more precisely and makes heel-toe down shifting easier than a car with a lot of brake boost. If the pedal feels stiff and you can activate ABS with a firm application of the pedal, I would say everything is fine. If it is almost impossible to activate ABS and feel the pulsing of the brake pedal, then you may have a problem with the brake booster or other components.

yes this is my first porsche and yes i am firm believer that great brakes should exibit good feel, etc. i have yet to notice if i have triggered abs in my runs. my brakes are stock pads, rotors, ate brake fluid. what i do have is at speed (60mph and up) is a firm pedal that doesnt slow down the car proprotionately to the pressure i apply to it. im pretty sure that the car brakes longer than it should from 60mph and up. once my brother was driving he was able to lock up the brakes and we stopped short of 8 feet from the car ahead that stopped (abs faulty?) can i check with my durametric if my brake booster, proportioning valve or whatever brake component is fuctioning normally? no lights appear on my cluster nor any malfunctions when i hook up my scan tool. :help: again ur help is most appreciated. thanks to all who responded.

  4. i'm still trying to analyze what is causing my 99 C4 to exhibit inadequate braking at speeds above 60mph. i have flushed the system twice with a powerbleeder, the pads and rotors are fine. the tires are good. is there a component in the braking system that i have to check? at speed the brake pedal firms up but does not stop the car proportionately to the pressure i apply. im hesitant to replace the seals of the calipers as they look intact. suggestions pls on what to do next. TIA

  5. Or it was probably purchased by an old lady who only drove it to church on Sundays. Yeah, that is probably it.

If the dealer is dishonest then you are right to be suspicious. Hit him with some kali sticks until he confess.

i figured using the rule of thumb in kilometers...my car probably has run 47,000kms and not 11,000kms when we got it. looks like i may need those kali sticks. :cursing:

  6. I am not sure, but 11,000 km at 900 hours is 12 km/hr average. What makes you think it is tampered?

ive recently been to the dealer where i got my car and test drove an 05 997s. it only had 2,300kms on the odo but had a service now reminder(!) on the lcd panel on the speedo. i understand that that reminder will come on depending on distance and how the car was driven, does that mean the car was driven very hard for 2,300kms then sold? my car is a 99, and i find that 900 operating hours is too low for an 8 yr old car and im no math whiz by any measure.

  7. i hooked up my durametric tool to my 99 C4 and discovered that the car has run 900+ hours. when i got the car last year it showed 11,000kms. i am aware of the practice of many sellers (here in manila) to have their cars odometers tampered for about $100-120. but i wasnt expecting a car like my 996 to be tampered. is it possible that if the seller who i bought the car from tampered the mileage and thus resulted in the low operating hours i saw with my durametric? does this number mean the total hours the engine has run since new from the facotry to the time i plugged my scan tool? :(

  8. after pouring hours trying to figure out the problem, we insolated the problem as a fuel delivery issue. and we went back and removed the fuel pump we installed earlier. we noticed that the fuel hose was not properly installed as we only copied how the old one was installed. i ran the car hard twice afterwards and let it sit for about 30 mins to simulate the problem, and she starts right up. hope this helsp other guys with the same symptoms.

  9. 1999porsche911,

ive hooked up a pressure guage but get no reading with the engine off. can you elaborate how i can check fuel pressure after i leave the guage connectd overnight? tia

    loren,

my car has 16,000 kms only. run only as a weekend toy. i have replaced the fuel pump and regulator as an attempt to isolate the problem to fuel delivery. help pls thanks.

  10. this topic caught my interest coz my row 99 c4 also exhibits the same brake feel. mine feels as if the car wont stop at high speeds. had them inspected and were told they were fine. i posted my concern on this forum a while back and was told to check my calipers as they may be corroded due to lack of use. i flushed the fluid twice with little improvement. calipers are not servicable i discovered later. could it be the tires? or if i try diffrent (harder, noisier) pads wud work? i got the car with only 11,000kms and only use it on weekends. inputs wud be appreciated
