  1. My 99' 996 C2 has a particular sound when I press the clutch, is increased when I accelerate the engine idling or running, "sounds like a old power steering pump". The clutch pressure is good. The sound look like is coming from the front side of the vehicle. What is it?

And to complete it has a coolant smell in air conditioning. I check the coolant reseirvor and in fact has decreased. I checked for any leaks near engine and front bumper and nothing! It is possible the heater core? Where to check?

    I'll appreciate any help

  2. Very Nice Info Thanks :D If you have more of those necessary videos let me know I'll be glad to see them.

As I was entering the expressway this guy in his 4 X truck deliberately moves into the only place I can enter so I hit the brakes & horn but HORN! I don't use the horn very much & this is on an 04' Targa with 15000 miles but I sure needed it then. Can't possibly be both horns but after reviewing the info on the site I figured that was all that was left & anyway I could at least clean the radiators while I was at it. Well it was both horns & a trip to Pep Boys for the double the decible model worked out great. Only issue was with the rivits by the wheel wheels. They took me forever to get out. I tried the lubricant but on my car there are two differant plunger type of rivits. There is the standard described in this thread which was relatively easy to get off but there is another type that has an off set plunger. You can tell the differance by the indentation on either side of the plunger suitable to fit a small flat blade screwdriver. The first one took me a good hour to get off. Use lubricant & work each side of the plunger until you get it all the way out. I moved it in & out to try to get the lubricant to work a bit better as well as side to side. I did this to release the interior wheel shields as I could not bend mine from behind the bumper to get to the interior screw under the side marker light. Many thanks for the video & write up. Btw I don't think both horns "suddenly" went out but rather one went & I never realized it and then the other just stoped an a very inconviniet time.
  3. Jose, how did you know the evap was leaking? I have thin oil appearing on my front driver side carpets (not much, but the surface of the carpet is oily, not engine oil, much thinner). I assume this could be either a/c lubricant, or brake fluid? It is discolouring the (black) carpet, so maybe it's brake fluid?

It's summer time in Miami, and I'm driving around without a/c at the moment. :) I guess I better get to work on fixing this sometime soon, before I melt...

    -James.

Some body diagnosed with ultra ear device to detect small leaks plus if take a sneaky look thru the blower compartment you can see the evaporator oily.

I did a second diagnose by using the UV refrigerant with UV light detector to confirm my self, a $20 thing.

  4. I'm in the market for a set of 4 18" 996 Carrera Lite alloy wheels. I would prefer Porsche OEM in as new condition but not having any luck. I've seen replica wheels made in Italy supposedly to Porsche specs. Anybody have any experience with these. Are replicas any good?

Got mines 2 weeks ago, they're very good. And saves you a lot $$$.

I'm not promoting them but the cheapest seem to be here. http://www.wheelsandcaps.com/

also check their store @ ebay. :)

  5. I need some help trying to identify the part numbers and/or locate a pair of female mating connectors (20-pin and 18-pin) for a 996.645.312.00 HAES M680 6x40W DSP amplifier that I purchased on eBAY. My Boxster 2000S that I purchased has the wiring connectors chopped off the harness in the trunk area, so I am trying to restore it to its original setup. The head unit is the CDR-220 with a DSP control panel. Any help would be appreciated.

my recommendation is go and ask everyone on ebay who has an amplifier for sell. I got lucky that way.

  6. No, I just unmount the interior parts at home, the mechanic couldn't work at my home so I took it to his garage in the conditions you see in the first picture. The mechanic just replace the evap from the housing. For me was to much complex to work in the evap housing area. Then the dumb mechanic didn't let me mount everything on his garage for insurance purpose. Then I towed back home to finish it. Just take this as a experience.

If the problem is just the evap. I don't think is relevant to get the whole housing.

Pelican parts is the only one that I know that sell you evap alone as an option with good price. Don't waste your time on other brands of evap as the configuration lines in/out are different and won't fit on the housing.

  7. Hello

I solve this thing almost my self. The plan was to buy the evap at pelicanparts. Dismount all you see in this pics with the workshop manual took 6 hrs, very easy. except the evap housing in which the mechanic dismounted and mounted. I replaced my self the expansion valve and dryer. Then I mount the rest back in like in 5 hrs @ home. And return for air recharge.

    -evap $273

-dryer $41 "may be better price at ebay"

-expansion valve $33 "may be better price at ebay"

    -car tow round trip $200

-replace the evap from housing and put it back $400

    -air recharge $200

    total: $1,147

    satisfaction priceless

if you can dig in on the evap housing complexity and get a air recharge housing gauge system for $40 at autozone plus refrigenrant and oil you save $ 800.
