Usually, in these instances it is plugs, coils, and the electrical connectors on the coils.
I would double check them all.
They were all replaced at the dealer less than a year ago, should I try to disconnect the battery to clear them and see if they come back again? You don't think it's a gas issue?
-
Are you sure there are not more faults - for specific cylinders?
What scan tool are you using?
Loren,
No, none, autozone, I believe it was duramatic. I had 0301 and 0304 before and that's when they changed the plugs and coils. Scanned at autozone too first.

Go with OEM

I'm getting a CEL, checked the codes at Autozone noew and it came out as P0300 (random misfire) I had a tune up, coils and plugs changed at the dealer back in November along with all fluids. Last weekend installed a new battery too. This morning I got the CEL, my bro says it's most likely bad gas as I had it parked since end of January as I was overseas. He suggests, fill up the tank, clear the codes, drive it for 20-30 miles and then see how it goes before another trip to the dealer, he said it worked for his Bimmer. Good advice?? and How do I clear the codes, disconnect the battery??
By the way it's an '02 with no mods.

you can't save a dead battery. you didn't post the MY or model of your car so if it is 03+ you will not have to save radio codes as they are stored in the DME. if <03, you can try the cig lighter plug-in to save the codes. you should keep your new battery on a maintainer as well.
It's an '02. I'll keep it the cig-lighter charger plugged in as long as there is no harm to the car. Is there anything I should watch out for while changing the battery with the maintainer plugged in? TIA
-
So if the battery is dead, then the battery charger/maintainer won't charge it? Also, should I leave the battery charger plugged in while changing batteries so I won't loose codes/settings?
-
I haven't driven my car for about 3 weeks and forgot to put it on the battery maintainer charger, I tried it yesterday and it won't fire up, just hear a clicking noise and then lights flicker, my battery is 4 years old and I drive the car bi-weekly when I'm home, I think it's the battery, am I correct in my assessment? Can I use the battery charger/maintainer to fully charge the battery? Or should I just jump the car?
-
It can - because you have a fouled mixture.
Any spark plugs changes or coils issues recently?
No all original. I'll check the oil filler tube tomorrow.
-
Thanks Loren, no it doesn't blow any smoke. Will an AOS trigger the misfire?
-
Does it continue to blow smoke?
If so, do a search here for AOS repairs and also have a look at the oil filler tube. Both are plastic and will eventually break.
So I went to Autozone today and got the codes read, they won't reset them though. Here's what they found P0300, P0301, P0304. Can someone tell me what's the problem, how severe and what's the fix with estimated cost please? Thanks.

Try Autozone.
Sounds like maybe an AOS failure.
Thanks Loren, what's an AOS failure?
Air Oil Seperator.
Thanks. What's the fix?

Didn't start my car for about 6 weeks while I was away. Started the other day and a lot of smoke came out at first for a minute or two then it's normal, when I got in the car the engine light came on. Any ideas? Where can I go to read the codes for free / cheap?
-
Thanks Loren. I have an '02 C2 and heard it on a forum couple of times so figured to replace before it hits 90 and leak over the summer. It's pretty cheap fix now.
-
Looking for a part # for the plastic coolant tank cap. I was told to replace the car every two years to save the tank from exploding in high temps. I was told about $15 maintenance.
-
Thanks guys, off to get myself a putty knife.

I need to remove the trim piece around the radio - a/c as one button needs to be put back. I looked and no screws, do I need to pry it out? Is there a special tool to remove it? How about the wiper dial, doesn't need to come out first? Thanks
-
Dealer quoted me $495 to resurface and redrill my rotors, is that too much? He said there's rust on them and has to be resurfaced to perform well.

They're not claiming RMS, they think some water pump gasket lubricant? Not sure what that is, sounded silly to me. Any work will be done under warranty but I'd rather not do any work that doesn't need to be done. I need an expert opinion on this before I take it next week. Warranty is out end of the month.
-
or are they feeding a bunch of BS. I took my car in to the dealer today and while I was there asked them to check on any issues before the warranty is out
pic 1 year ago (while confirming everything is fine)
Pic today, they say some kind of leak, not sure what it's unless the put the dye in and check it out
not much change in my opinion. What do you guys think? and what could that oil be?

996.111.108.00 Clamp -- MSRP $11.96 each (as of July 2007)
Thanks Loren, are those for an '02 996 C2?
-
Both tail pipes clamps broke when I tried to switch out my tips from the old mufflers to the new ones. Can someone provide me with parth numbers and cost if possible. Thanks
-
-
Where should I go? I'd prefer a shop that did it before. Also, what's the best pipe size to go with that's closer to the factory PSE sound (I have a 3.6L). I'm not looking to be louder than factory, just as loud.

Thanks Loren, I'm not sure how to inspect plugs, coils. Is there an easy way to do it? I'll connect in an hour and fire it up. If not I'll have to make a dealer trip again.
