  1. Some posts talk of a brown wire with a blue stripe as the alarm wire. This is true, but please note that my car has two such wires, one directly on one of the radio connector harnesses and the other, the alarm wire, which is initially hard to find.

This wire is actually connected to a pressure plate on the left hand side of the radio mounting bracket as you look at it. The pressure plate presses against the radio and when it meets metal, it sets off the alarm. With my aftermarket HU, putting loads of masking tape over the left hand side did not cure the problem. The only cure came when I disconnected (I didn't cut the wire and I advise against cutting it as it is not necessary) the alarm wire by pushing back the clip which connects it to the pressure plate.

Once that is done, simply tape up

  2. Yep, as mentioned mine is loud as well. Alternator, starter seems a bit out of the ordinary, but I have heard about a few having problems. My theory is that it's cayennes that needed a battery for a long time which is hard on the starter and alternator. Drive shaft, rotor and pads are all wear and tear parts on the Cayenne. Sounds like nothing "major" was found. What will happen with the warranty you mentioned. Will you claim it there?

  3. I should also mention I had battery issues as well. Tailgate not closing, various fault codes including hard steering, etc. replaced the battery, cleaned the terminals and all problems went away. I went with the new glass pack technology battery.

Also had the water in the cabin issue, corroded wires in the driver footwell. Cleaned the drains; again search for which ones. Resoldered the wires and dried everything out with a hair dryer.

Do a few of these things now and you will save yourself some headaches.

  4. Does it have pdcc? If it does they wine a little and sound like a bad pump.

Mine has some of the same engine sounds, a little piston slap I think. There is a known issue for scoring that can cause this. You would need a scope. I would stay on top of oil changes and make sure you use decent oil.

As suggested above I did all the maintenance items on mine. Plugs, coil packs, all fluids, belt, brake flush, brakes all around and I bought a drive shaft. Just waiting for the one in it to give up. I'm getting some vibration so that won't be much longer.

I also did the thermostat which was fairly easy, with the exception of getting the sleeve out. Do a search for options.

There are some vacuum leaks that can be addressed, the T at the back of the intake manifold is not easy to get at but can be done. I used a brass one with some clamps. The brake booster vacuum line also cracks near the firewall. I fixed mine me with sealant and tape. I also ordered a new one, but have not installed it yet.

  5. It looks like 6 and 7. I tend to over buy and then return if needed. Especially on cheap parts like the connectors that seem to be broken here. If you speak the the parts department and show them the pictures you should be fine. Also you can search the internet for 997 Katalog and you will be able to find a diagram of all of the parts along with part numbers.
