  1.

Having difficulty pulling it up from the top ( have tried all manner of long nosed pliers, forceps, etc) - is there access to the rubber drain from underneath the car?

Ok.... Have now managed to get the rubber grommet / end piece back up and out, but in the process it's come off the actual drain tube. Grrrr!

Looking at the diagram the other end of the tube seems to emerge in the LH wheel arch. Is that the only access? Am I best off pulling the pipe out from that end and starting again?

    Thread resurrection- sorry!

Exact same problem as 'le bouch' above.  Grommet fell through, then disconnected from the drain hose while I was trying to pull it back out.  UK car, drain to the right of the battery as you face it.  Still haven't managed to pull the rubber bit back out.  Even if I can pull it out, how am I supposed to connect it back to the drain tube/pipe?!

  2. I tried by mail, but maybe they are just now busy answering soon. By phone - I'm not too familiar with engine vocabulary and skipped that for now. Maybe they answer later on.

    Thanks for sharing.

One of the local Porsche maintenance company promised today to have look at it next week. Let's see what their findings are. All the sealings at least are leaking more or less.

It can be only chain tensioner or alike, but with 250tkm I want to play it safe.

Hope to hear good news soon...

    Good luck :)

Perhaps you could also contact a forum member called 'Twilight' via the 911uk site.  This is a thread he started...

He is also in Finland and may be able to help you find what you need.

  3. 8" fronts are fine - I have them on my MY99 - stay with the same offset and you can go to a 235 front without rubbing.

Thanks for that Loren, much appreciated and quite timely since I read your response whilst on my way to take a look at the wheels... and ended up buying them for £360!  Not a bad deal at all considering the rears have plenty of wear left on the tyres so I won't need to replace them for quite a while!

So I'm good to go, thanks again...

  4. Hi all

Please excuse the newbie question :)

I just bout a pre-facelift 996 that is fitted with standard 17" 'technology' rims.

I'm looking at upsizing to 18", mostly because 18" tyres seem to be a lot cheaper these days than their 17" equivalents (at least, in the UK they are).  EG, a Michelin PS2 'N' in 205/50/17 costs almost £180 whereas the same tyre in 225/40/18 is £110.  That's a huge difference!

I'm hunting around for some decent 18" rims and found a nice set of original 5-spokes (pic attached) for a good price, but the fronts are 8J.  In the manual, it says 8J is for MY02 and up and for my model, the 'correct' size is 7.5J.

I've also uploaded a pic of my vehicle, 'as is', for good measure :)

Can I fit these on my car and would there be any detrimental consequences?

    Many thanks!
