  1. Two things . . . 1. My Porsche has recommended a brake flush. 2. It is time to change the oil in my 2000 Boxster. Are these things I can do myself? I realize the oil change needs some wheel ramps, but can I do a brake flush? Thanks, Todd
  2. So, if it is NOT chirping now, that means there is no alarm zone open? That is what we want, right? From what you're saying the car only chirps when a door/bonnet is open. Am I wrong? Todd
  3. Yeppers, it is a Porsche radio. It is the CDR-220. Yeppers, it is a Porsche radio. It is the CDR-220. Some additional information . . . the alarm chirped when I picked up the car, but then it wouldn't start so we changed the battery. this all started when the new batter was hooked up. Not sure if this gives you any useful additional info, but wanted to make sure you had the whole picture. Todd
  4. Interesting that you ask that. When I was at the dealer . . . it beeped when I armed it. Now (when the radio thing is happening) it does NOT beep when I arm the car. Thoughts? Todd
  5. I just got my 2000 Boxster back today from my Porsche dealer after they replaced the entire ignition switch, and steering lock - the whole enchelata. I don't understand . . . I turn off the ignition and took the key out. The radio stayed on. I got out of the car and shut the door. The radio was still on. When I locked the car with the remote, it turned off and armed the alarm. Then when I go back to get into the car, as soon as I open the door, the radio kicks on. What is up with that? It's a brand new ignition assembly. Thanks, Todd
  6. Found this on eBay, and was wondering if anyone here had tried it on their plastic window. If not, what solution do you recommend for removing the haze from a 5 year old plastic window? Thanks, Todd
  7. My Porsche dealer says the control arm needs to be replaced. What is it, and what does it do? Is it something that can be put off? Also he is replacing the whole ignition and the key-fob. Hopefully this will solve the key issue! :) Todd
  8. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=493 Loren, thank you so much. I hate that I don't know how to do a proper search. Going to make a donation to the site for your extra efforts!! Thanks! Goodness sakes! I got a replacement ignition switch in the mail today, and went in the car to try and remove the old switch. G** D***!! THat was really hard to get out. Turns out, it wasn't the right fix. After I put the new switch in, the car was doing the same thing. THe car still 'dings' when the key is not in. So, I took it to the Porsche Dealer . . . I don't mind paying the $300 to have the whole thing replaced as long as I don't have to go under there again. I've also asked them to do a 27 point inspection on the car. I've only had it 5 days, and I want to know what else is waiting for me to be fixed. So, my question is, should I return the car to the dealer? They gave me 2 weeks to make sure I'm happy, and I have 8 more days on that promise to get my 2001 Mercedes SLK back. I'll keep you posed on what Porsche has to say on Monday after they give it the 27-Point inspection. I'm thinking that anything over $3000 and I"m gonna take it back. Thanks for letting me vent, Todd (the new guy that can't do forum searches on hiw own) :)

  10. I agree!! I think I might be able to take the ignition switch out and WD40 it to get the spring to click back into place. But I'll look for this document with instructions you mention! Thanks for the help! Todd Okay, I'm an idiot. I'm terrible at searches . . . I can't seem to find the directions on how to replace this thing. I just thought of something. If I buy a new ignition thingy, will my key still work? What part am I replacing exactly? Will WD40 squirted in there do anything? The Porsche Service Dept. says that it is the spring that clicks closed when I remove the key that is not working. Thoughts? Thanks group! Todd

  12. Thanks for the response. The weird thing is, when I unlock the car and get in, it starts chiming again. I think there must be a short somewhere. . .
  13. I just purchased a 2000 Boxster and when I shut the engine off and remove the key, the radio stays on, and the dash instrument lights stay on, and the chime goes off like the lights are on (but they are off). Is this normal? Shouldn't the radio cut off and the dash lights and chime stop when the car is shut off? Thanks, and more questions soon! Todd
