PCM problems?

Recommended Posts

I recently bought a 2005 Boxster S with PCM 2.1, CD changer and Bose. I have come across a couple of problems which do not seem too major at the moment, but might cause me problems if I want to change the system.

When I first get into the car (before turning the key or turning on the PCM), there is a clear hissing from the door mounted tweeters. This is so quiet that it is not noticeable when the car engine is turned on or if there is any other background noise.

When I go in to check the software versions screen, there are warning triangles with red exclamation marks next to the Amp and CD changer entries, everything else has ticks.

Apart from the hissing, the operation of the system is totally fine. However, I would really like to upgrade the Sat Nav maps and install a Dension/Mobridge iPod solution and am worried about doing this if it will add to any existing problems that I have. I am guessing that if I take it into an OPC, they will just automatically blame any faults on updates I have made to the system myself!

Has anyone else had similar problems?

There have been issues with the Bose software and I think designated SW updates, the TSBs 9110 address some of it.

as those are read-only I cannot paste the remarks.

Apart from exchanging the amplifier it also recommends SW upgrade for the PCM system which seems to carry some image for the Bose as well.

However, it also talks about bringing the Bose amplifier to minimum release 01.75.00 with the PIWIS system tester by your dealer.

Try getting both the PIWIS update as well as the PCM update from your dealer - they can also check if the hardware is one of few affected ones which are considered to be replaced..
