2003 Boxster Vibration

Recommended Posts

Hello everybody,

I just bought a 2003 Boxster with 9600 miles. Here is the question, at approx. 75 mph I feel a vibration on the steering wheel. I am assuming that it should be pretty smooth. Am I correct? The car is still under warranty but I don't want to take it to the dealer and have them tell me it is a maintenance problem at $120.00 an hour.

Any suggestions? or ideas?

Thanks

There may be a balancing weight missing (thrown) from the front wheel/s........get the dealer to balance both front wheels to see if that is all it is. There should be zero shimmy or vibration at that speed..............

I strongly recommend 'high speed wheel balancing' with Hunter machine (GSP9700 I believe). Not many stealers have the machine, they can only do regular wheel balancing and it's just waste of money for your problem. I had same vibration at around 85 mph, now it drives better than ever, not even slightest vibration or whatsoever at any speed.

I heard, in rare case, wheel bearing is the cause of the problem. But try GSP9700 first, I'm sure you will be happy again.

Thanks for the replies. I talked to the dealer and they said that they do not do high speed balancing (only up to 75 mph). However, one of the local large Goodyear tire stores said that they can do high speed balancing. I will be taking it in this afternoon.

Thanks again.
