Hi everyone,

I’m working on a 1996 Porsche 911 (993) Turbo, and I’m currently having a problem with the factory alarm/immobilizer system.

The car had been exposed to water, and several electrical control modules/PCBs were affected by water intrusion. I have already removed, cleaned, and dried the affected circuit boards, and there are no obvious signs of corrosion remaining.

However, I still cannot get the immobilizer/alarm system to pass its normal initialization.

Current symptoms:

  • As soon as I turn the ignition/power on, the horn starts sounding continuously.
  • The lights keep flashing continuously.
  • The car will not start.
  • It appears that the alarm/immobilizer is still active and preventing the car from starting.

I have already checked the wiring and some of the connections, but I have not yet been able to determine what is causing the alarm system to remain triggered.

I’m particularly interested in information about the 993 factory alarm/immobilizer system, including:

  1. What conditions can cause the alarm to immediately trigger when power is applied?
  2. Which inputs/signals does the alarm control unit need to see before it will allow the car to start?
  3. Is there a specific procedure for resetting or re-initializing the immobilizer after water damage?
  4. Are there any common failure points on the 993 alarm/immobilizer control unit?
  5. Could a damaged alarm control unit prevent the ECU/DME from allowing the engine to start?

If anyone has experience repairing a 993 that has suffered water damage, I would really appreciate any advice, wiring diagrams, pinouts, diagnostic procedures, or information about the immobilizer system.
