  1. Thanks. How would I find an LED compatible flasher? Can I assume the "flasher: is a relay that plugs into the fuse box?
  2. I have the same question. Anyone with experience on this? Thanks in advance for your input.
  3. How very touching that you would give up something that you obviously love so much for the person that you love...
  4. Unless there was something to clearly indicate that they did something wrong with the original repair. More likely it's just an unfortunate coincidence. We are talking about parts that are 13 years old and things wear out and break and leak. I take it that you are a Four Winns boater? Me too :-)
  5. We have an '04 C4S cab with factory installed PSE. I modified the relay (using the instructions another forum member posted years ago) so that PSE is default on. I rarely turn it off (top down or top up) unless I'm leaving the house super early in the morning so as not to disturb the neighbors. Just love that sweet music coming from behind us, especially above 3000 rpm, and especially with the top down. Is it too loud? I would say 98% of the time, no. I'm under the impression most of the aftermarket systems are louder. I've been asked many times by other 911 owners what aftermarket system I have as they seem to like what they are hearing and don't realize it's an OEM system.
  6. I think they may be different. In the hydraulic fluid DIY, Izzy mentioned the plug was a 5mm hex head, and I have a 2004 and the plug is a 4mm hex head.
  7. Unfortunately this is an all too common required repair on 996 and 997 cabrios. Has anyone tried replacing the O rings themselves versus exchanging for rebuilt units or sending them out to be rebuilt? Here's someone selling a DIY kit on Ebay. Anyone have experience with this? http://www.ebay.com/itm/271688190195
  8. I have an '04 996 C4S and mine also has the pump and reservoir horizontally like Wkoperwhats. I've attached a photo. The hex plug on mine was 4mm, not 5mm. I was not so lucky. I did successfully fill the reservoir, but I can now see I'm going to have to replace the seal on the right side actuator. After filling the reservoir, the telltale hydraulic fluid is on the garage floor just in front of my right rear tire.
  9. Thanks. I did try signing out and then resigning in with the same result.
  10. Thanks for responding. Neither the box nor the icon are there. Only seems to be a problem in DIY Support Topics. As you can see I had no trouble responding in this thread.
  11. For some reason I am unable to post to any of the DIY Support Topics. The "Reply to This Topic" button does not appear. Thanks in advance for your help.
  12. Aftet trying several different pressure combinations, I ended up settling for the OEM specs (36 front/ 44 rear) despite the tires not being OEM size. Seems to be the best combination of handling versus ride quality.
  13. I needed new tires for my '04 C4S Cab, and had a strong desire to install Michelin Super Sports as I have those tires on 2 other cars and think they are absolutely terrific. I find them to be very grippy (at least at warm temperatures) with good turn in, but without a bone jarring ride. Unfortunately Michelin does not make Super Sports in my rear OEM size, 295-30-18. I was going to go with Michelin PS2's instead as I've had good results with them in the past, , but no one had them in stock, and everywhere I called said they would likely not be available for at least a month. After reading some of the other 996 posts here regarding tires, I decided to go with 285-35-18 Super Sports, but to keep the tire diameters the same, on the fronts I went with 225-45-18's rather than the OEM 225-40-018's. Everything seems fine so far, but I'm wondering what pressures I should be using with the larger tires. I did some calculations based on the maximum load of the OEM versus installed tires, and based on that I'm at 30 psi in the front versus the factory specified 36, and 40 psi in the rear versus the factory specified 44. Again, everything seems fine thus far, but what pressure would everyone suggest I should be using? I don't track the car, but on occasion I like to have some fun in the twisties and on entrance and exit ramps. 95% of the time the car is driven rather sedately. I'd like to minimize the tire wear (despite occasionally playing Rodney Racecar Driver) and ride comfort is a priority too. Thanks in advance for your help.
  14. Had a dead battery today on my '04 C4S cab. I kick myself for not realizing that the old battery was 7 years old and proactively replacing it before now, especially given all the time the car sits unused in the garage. I know better. I have always made it a habit to go with the highest capacity battery that will fit in all my cars, and I decided to go with a Group 49. I found a 900 CCA Duracell that had a July date code at Sam's Club for $106.87. I's made by Deka in Pennsylvania. Sam's also had a AGM battery for $150 that was 50 CCA less, but I'm not convinced it's worth it. I had no reasonable way to avoid disconnecting the power to the car's systems, and I figured if memory was going to be lost it had already happened as the old battery was showing only about 8.5 volts. Guess I got lucky...there was no battery in the car for a good hour while I used a M14 tap to thread the last hole in the battery tray plus enlarging the hole in the battery hold down bracket..but I see no problems..radio did not lose the presets, the one touch feature on the passenger window did not work for a few window cycles, but then it seemed to correct itself. The only other things I noticed was that the tripometer reset to zero, and the engine ran rough for a few minutes. I assume that was the engine computer "re-learning". The fuel gauge shows the same 3/4 tank level that it showed before the battery failed.
