Split Rim Wheel Refurbish Sport Design Style

Recommended Posts

Hi all, so I bought a set of Porsche sport design split rim wheels made by BBS. They had the normal corrosion on the outer rim. After researching all around the internet I decided to tackle the refurbishment of these rims myself. After completing this project I am not sure what all the concern is about splitting these rims. They separated easily; they went back together as if they were new. Other than some minor difficulty finding a couple of replacement screws that I broke off upon disassembly it was pretty easy. Anyway, attached in the PDF is my DIY. I hope you like. Thanks RennTech for all of the help in the past. B)

I'm not too familiar with the two piece rims, but I would like to compliment you on a nice write up! Very well done! :D I like the innovative pursuit you had to find fasteners for the two you broke. I would have never imagined searching the German version of eBay and using a translation program to go from English to German and vice versa. Really awesome job! ;) Thanks for the post.

Thank you very much for your time in writing this How to guide. I too have searched google for split rim repairs and had very little joy. I new it wasn't going to be a hard job, just time consuming. This is just the info I needed to give me the confidence to tackle this job.

Thanks.................Adam

Resurrecting this thread - many thanks for the original post - a great write-up. I just finished refurbishing mine. Fortunately for me there were no broken screws upon disassembly.

Also, I went a slightly different route - I had the center sections powdercoated in black, and polished the outer rim. The tires will be mounted tomorrow:

There was a bit of corrosion on the rim:

Just what I was looking for. Many thanks. Other than the outer rim of my wheels they are in OK shape. But the outer rim is another story. Contrasted with how well the center sections have held up, I have to believe there was some deficiency in the original process used by BBS on the rims
