Ignition Switch Screwdriver

Recommended Posts

Help! I've disconnected the ignition switch and I am trying to replace the burnt out switch. I can't see the screw heads to unscrew it and I am guessing they are flatheads. The air duct is partially in the way so a short stubby screwdriver is necessary. Can you please advise me what screwdriver to purchase? (1/8" flathead?) Thanks

I took this picture today at my dealer because I may be replacing a switch on a local car. They do not like the factory screwdriver because it is too big. So they took a plastic cap, filled it with epoxy, and stuck a very small flat head bit in it. Van made this shop made tool.

Just went to Harbor Freight and Tools and I saw a flat screwdriver [the epoxy version size], almost identical to yours [tool pants] except it was stock . Tiny flat screwdriver.

On another note, I had a problem with my ignition switch the other day [double honking-locking switch would stay lit].

I analyzed this and tried to figure out what makes these things tick, pins and a rotary switch.

I then took my multi purpose tool [WD-40] and gave a spray thinking I may have gummed up contacts, and or pins may be hanging.

Voila :jump: all better, are the Porsche gods :notworthy: looking over my shoulder or have I now screwed myself by talking about it.

I thought it was worth a try.

This is the best tool you'll find for taking out the ignition switch. The factory tool is rediculous and much too big. Pop that air duct out and you'll have the ign switch out in no time.

Was at Sears today and found another quarter. :)

Then I found this little round magnetic bit holder that is almost the same size of Van's shop made tool, for $2. So I also bought an extra one for Van.

The other end is square so you can put a 1/4" drive ratchet on it if you need leverage for a different project.

Also found a little screw driver for $1. Van says it is too long.

I'm going to sell the $2 bit holder to Porsche for $50 since no one likes their factory tool.

Also saw these magnetic bit holders on ebay for $8.99. I will stick to the $2 Sears bit holder.
