  1. has anyone installed one of the knock-off ebay short shifters for about $80? I have been looking at those, the schnell and the B&M. I imagine the B&M is the best but don't have too much extra cash for that option now. I was getting ready to order the schnell kit with the extra linkage but wanted to get some input from people that have used them?

Love to hear what everyone is using. Good or bad remarks.

    Thanks,

    Ryan

  2. I noticed that there are few posts about the replacement of the generator in the Boxster forum. After reading the info that was available I went ahead and did the job. I must say that the steps that were posted are accurate except that after loosening and removing the bolts, you must first unseat the rightside of the generator from the U-Shaped metal bolt sleeve by prying gently upward. After this you can then rotate the whole genrator to the right for removal.

    Hope this helps!

  3. I am in need of my first set of replacement tires on a 98 Boxster. After reading app. 4000 posts on tires I can honestly say that at best I am confused. My driving style is semi- aggressive and I spend more time on back roads than elswhere. I plan on no track time in the near future. I would be pleased if someone could tell me about their experiences with Kumho tires and especially the Ecsta SPT. Thanks in advance for your time and consideration. Ed

I purchased the Kumho Ecsta ASX for my 2001 Boxster. Front 225/40/18 rear 265/35/18. I have put about 1000 miles on them and am very pleased with the performance and ride. I had Continentals before. I have not noticed any decrease in performance and a boost in ride quality. Also they should last well over 20K unlike the conti's.

  4. Machster, Is it really notchy & metallic in the shift, or is it smooth w/ just a much shorter throw. I've been contemplating one of these for a while, but don't want to make the plunge w/out being sure. Let m eknow. Thanks!

I installed it yesterday and drove it last night. Both my wife and I like the change. I think it is a little notchy if you drive it hard. It does smooth shift though. It feels a little heavier but with a little time I will get used to it. It is totally different than stock. We used to have to make sure it was in gear before letting off the clutch. Now it goes in immediatly.

  5. I bought and installed the Azrinc Blue short throw kit found on Ebay for 55.00. Made a huge improvement to my 2001 Boxster. After installation the shift knob was way left from center. I think the manufacturer installed the lever backwards. I unscrewed the 1/2" nut and bolt and flipped the lever around. Now the Shifter is perfectly straight. Maybe they do this on purpose so they don't get sued by B&M for knock offs. I would recommend this for any stock shift kit upgrade. Installation took about 1 1/2 hours.

  6. My Coolant Pump and pulley failed and seized. I have pulled the old pump off and would like to flush the entire system of metal and plastic fragments before (if possible) I refill the new coolant. Can anyone step me through the flush and fill process? I cannot find the proceedure in the service manual. Thanks in advance!

  7. My old key self destructed and I have a new remote entry key that is cut the same but will not start the car. How do I marry the new key to the car?

Has to be done by a dealer. The dealer will need the code from the hang tag that should have come with the remote. If you don't mind me asking, where did you get a new key cut?

Thanks for the info. I purchased the car from a used car dealer, and he ordered it on my behalf.
