  1. I will have to dig around, but think I have mine. Give me Saturday and Sunday to check. In the meantime, have you tried the Bilstein site or emailed them asking if they have a PDF version that they could either email to you or direct you to for download?
  2. lol...i hear you on the 'it's got windows' tip. i see you're in boulder...i used to be a dj on kbco, when ginger was at the peak...i did the 10-3 midday show for a few years. the durametric software works, but it's a bit tricky figuring out how to get the hardware to be recognized if you don't read any instructions (like myself). if you happen to do it, and need any assistance, feel free to message me.
  3. yes, mr. smarty pants ;) i actually lost that booklet (doh!). thanks so much for the copy. you have no idea how many hours you save me and the others on this board...i can't thank you enough. seriously.
  4. i have looked high and low (docs menu, search, etc) and can't find a link for my 03 tt. i had mine until recently, and now it's gone and wouldn't you know i need it? heh. tia if anyone can set me up. Nathan
  5. nah, the clusters are changed out all of the time to trick unsuspecting buyers into thinking a car has lower miles than it does. i learned this when someone was trying to sell me gauges and used that as the pitch; "hey, i've got one that's only 8k on it, buddy"...and, yes, this software can read the actual miles off of the car's computer, as well as over-revs and a bunch of cool stuff. i bought windows xp, installed it on my mac, bought the hardware/software, installed it and it worked beautifully! cleared my airbag code and the world was at peace once again!
  6. i took the plunge, loren, and my software/hardware should be here tomorrow (it's enroute as i type). i decided that the best course of action would be to take one of my new mac laptops with the dual-core pentiums and run multiple OS's using parallel. i'm just sitting down with a 'still in the wrapper' copy of windows pro and it feels like a bicycle. having been a windows guy for a decade before switching, it feels oddly comfortable putting a win os on my computer again. anyway, i wanted to thank you for the advise. i decided that, since i plan on owning several porsches in my life, the small investment end-up saving me thousands...especially when buying used porsches and wanting to know what the 'real' miles are, as opposed to the miles on the gauge cluster that some guy bought at the junkyard for $600 and knocked 50k miles off of the odometer...gotta get into the brains of the car and get the truth ;) thanks again for always being here to help. i don't know of another car company that has such a fantastic base of owners and enthusiasts. it feels more like a scattered family. best, nathan :renntech:
  7. i only changed the bumper cover, and didn't touch the radiators or hoses or anything. i'll post-up a pic or two once my camera is recharged. hoses coming loose sounds bad, especially when you drive like i do. a simple hose could turn into a funeral real quickly ;)
  8. hmmm...i have an '03 TT and just switched from standard front bumper to an after market GT2 nose, and just changed the skins. i didn't move any hoses or radiators, and it didn't seem necessary, especially since the openings are in roughly the same spots. am i missing something? curious. 'turbo
  9. thanks, loren. i think i'm going to grab that software and just install windows on one of my new apple laptops with intel inside.
  10. but, is it Mac compatible, or will i need a windows machine? i guess i could get a used laptop for about $500, which isn't too bad. what else is the software good for, Loren? i'm in the hills above beverly hills (between beverly hills and sherman oaks), so i could go to the valley or to the city. where would i get the software? thanks for your help. also, what cables would i need to connect to the car?
  11. i am in the LA area. looks like going to the dealer is my only real option =\ would a PST2 come in handy for lots of things, or is it something that would rarely be used? i'm planning on a 1997 Turbo and have ordered a 997 Turbo already...so, I'm planning on working on Porsches a lot. if it would be a worthwhile investment, i'd do it. although, i don't really have the room right now...ugh...dealer?
  12. so, i did the whole 'take out the driver's seat while battery is still connected thing, and as such have an airbag sensor going off. instead of going to the dealer with this precious beast of a car, i decided to get the mac-daddy ODB2 reader/clearer/explainer/coffee maker...basically the guy at the auto parts place picked-up the cheapest and the most expensive and asked which one i wanted...and i didn't want to seem cheap. plus, i figured for sure this thing would do whatever i needed it to do now and down the road, with all of my cars. i'm following the instructions, do everything right, and go to read the codes. airbag doesn't show-up on the reader. i try to erase all codes anyway (there are none showing), and, of course, the airbag warning goes off without fail. i log onto the porsche website with limited time, trying to figure out what went wrong and i got the sense that it's not an ODB2 reader that i need to clear the codes, is that correct? the store won't take the reader back (maybe i can modify it to actually make a mean cup of coffee), and i'm actually hoping that it will eventually end-up doing the job after all...that's why i'm here! anyone have any ideas? is it a setting with the ODB2 reader? i haven't gone through all of the different features and ways of reading/clearing codes, just the most basic and common. here's the procedure: connect reader, insert key, turn on car for 10 seconds, turn car off, read codes... stumped.
  13. i removed the carpet using a heat gun. i got the glue nice and warm and the carpet came right off. it even pulled through the seam between the top and bottom door panel sections, so i was able to feed the new carpet back through there for an OEM look. that's the easy part of what i went through; rebuilding part of the door panel with abs plastic, fiberglass and body filler...fun but not recommended ;) but, yeah, the carpet is pretty easy to remove with a scraper, random orbit sander with 60 grit paper and a heat gun. just hack the carpet up, scrape it, sand what you can, then heat and pull out the rest...don't try and make the carpet removal a 'clean' project...go after it and you'll get it. good luck. post pics when you're done!
  14. Great job on the install! I especially like the faceplate that you did. I have all of the needed materials (although my ABS isn't gridded on the back, and I'm tempted to go that route for ease of construction), but haven't had time to get to it. I did the Z1 with LOTS of other changes going on at the same time (all the way down to getting different colored air inlets for the sides of my turbo, and learning how to fabricate slick CF parts on my own...did you know that those little air inlets are freaking $425/ea OEM? I almost died.). Anyway, I wanted to thank you for the post. It got me inspired to clean-up and finish the audio aspect of my overhaul...something I had gotten a bit weary of after rebuilding my door panels to fit larger mids with a slightly slicker look than what came stock, as well as dealing with the 3sixty.2 interactive audio processor and the crappy reception my callers were getting with the mic in that hole in the dash next to the gauges (I found that creating a new 'grill' with more audio transperancy (sp?) helped a lot...that stock piece that covors the mic hole really killed the conversations quickly, not to mention the sound from behind the dash speaker bleeding into the mic and creating reverb...ugh). I feel like I have lived and learned on this project like none other...the project being my entire car. My intention was and still is to post my experience here on Renntech.org. I just have to find the time to put it all together...I'm currently petitioning God to make the days longer, but I haven't been able to get enough signatures and he's running out of patience with my whole "just give me a little more time..." pleas. Thanks for the great info!
  15. i'm a partner in the company, and have spent the last almost decade self-employed, so i know the feeling all too well of work, work, work...and yes, we're hiring. if you can program php, and are in the LA area.... ;) we're always hiring, that's why i've been able to do all of this :)
  16. so, what started off as a simple stereo upgrade has turned into a full-blown DIY bonanza! i have done everything myself, from the air intake (no big deal) to fiberglass fabrication (bit of a learning curve, but still not too bad). i have done so much to personalize this baby, and i'm contemplating a much more aggressive undertaking whereby i will recreate part of the dash, the upper-center console and the center console itself, molding everything into a different driver experience. i spend a great deal of time either in my car or working on my car (just ordered a new TT as well, and i'm trying to locate the perfect 'older' 911 to modify and play with), that personalization was just something that had to be done, especially since i bought this used with someone else's preferences. oh, here's one that's a bit more involved; installing reverse sensors and back-up camera...especially when you drill one hole with a bit that breaks, wobbles and creates a 1/4 of 'extra' space around the hole you 'wanted'...ugh, i still have to fix that, but it's hard to tell so i'm slow to get after it...besides i'm on my third wiring job with the stereo (yep, 3rd, i'll explain in the big photo/explanation post that i'm putting together in my FREE time...bahahahah...free time...when i USED to sleep ;))... but, i thought that i would at least post-up a before and after (so-far) of the outside. some will probably like the more traditional look of the before pic, but i love the TechArt wheels, tint, splitters, side skirts, etc... before: and, after: see y'all soon...heading to the composite and plastics place in burbank, then to get some annodized alluminum...wwweeeeeee!!!!!!
  17. thanks for the feedback, guys. i will be posting pics and commentary from the entire build once it's done. i feel the let-down when i show people some of the stuff that's incomplete. they don't see what i see when i look at it, so it just looks f'd up, you know what i mean? i'm getting into the home stretch, though, and i'm about to install the back-up sensors and reverse camera, which i have left until last for a reason. i'm about to do a search through the DIY sections for rear bumper removal, or better yet, maybe a DIY on the back-up sensors ;) vfxbox, man, i'm definitely going to be in touch soon. monday (tomorrow) evening i'll be driving down to bellflower to pick-up my son from the paintball field. i'm not sure how close you are to there, but i do believe that you have my number if you'd like to hook-up. okay, back to work...oh, and thanks for the dealership tip on getting the airbag sensor reset! ~n
  18. absolute user error. i didn't plug one of the wiring harnesses back in all the way. i knew, when i couldn't find a topic on this here at renntech, that it was more than likely my own **** fault. this thread can gladly be deleted at your convenience. sorry to waste the brain power ;)
  19. would it help if i told you that an airbag malfunction is popping up? ie: the airbag sensor comes on about 30 seconds after the key is turned, and i have to acknowledge it. anybody with help would be a dream. i have to pick-up my son in a couple of hours and the idea of borrowing a car (my fiance has my audi with her) makes me scared....not as scared, however, as not getting my son. thanks in advance!
  20. i'm going to try and make an otherwise very long story as short as possible. i'm nearing the end of a huge install (nav, satelites (3), cd, ipod, etc., plus reverse sensors and a reverse camera). all told, it's a huge project for me. it's been an incredible learning experience, my first real car DIY on my first Porsche and it included lots of interior and exterior modifications (type-2 side skirts, techart wheels, cf intake splitters, custom red on black floor mats, body-colored center console, etc.). so, here's where i cut to the chase. i'm going after the reverse sensor wire under the driver's seat (black with blue stripe), and i tap into it. during this process i unplugged some of the cables beneath the seat, but got them plugged back in. yeah! success! everything seems to be working great...except for the fact that the car ('03 996 TT) won't start. the electrical works, but i don't even get a click-click-click. the stereo works, the lights all come on, the battery isn't dead at all...but she won't start-up. any ideas? any ideas on how I could fix this problem? i'm pretty positive that it's a computer issue...but i can't figure out how to fix it, and i'm about to start crying over this spilt milk. please help me...i'm begging you. and, if you are in so-cal, and think you could fix it yourself, i could make it worth your while :(
  21. i'm sorry to beat a dead horse, but i was looking for my reverse wire, and didn't want to start a new thread. i would just like to say that, on my '03 TT, the reverse wire had been doubled back and taped-up/over so much that it couldn't be seen. i had to cut away friction tape, where i saw a green wire doubled-back, and there it was (or, they were)...black and blue wires terminated into a rubber piece. so, while everyone did a great job of pointing out where the reverse wire is, there are some nuances that lead to confusion. i hope that this helps someone else. ~nq
  22. definitely obsessed with being obsessed. looking for balance in my life, but it eludes me still. i figure that i have, imo, the finest daily driver a human can own, period (not just the TT, but Porsche in general). I am trying to make sure that the equipment that I put in it is of equal stature within it's own genre. in fact, i have changed now to a double-din (anyone want a fold-out N3 from Pioneer? it's awesome, just not what i wanted after all), and brand new dual 8" shallow profile subs from Pioneer. I have undone and redone everything, including different MB Quart speakers and all sorts of bells and whistles (Bluetooth for the phone, etc). aside from the V-Flow intake, I think that it's getting on time for me to start focusing on the engine...once this is all buttoned up, and pictures of before, during, after (almost), during, after are posted ;) it's amazing, really, what a human is capable of when he has been awake for 36, 42, 48, 67, 72 hours...or more :) (koo-koo...koo-koo) ~n Probably obsessed with being obsessed... :D I am going get some parts from Performance Products in Sherman Oaks after my oil change is done in the morning. May be I can check out your setup and I will bring my video camera. I've been doing DIY to my car and help smistry007 for his 996TT Billet Diverter Valves from EVO. Also I introduce him to Danny at "Upon3Racing" in Pasadena for his future projects.
  23. First, an apology to VFXBOX for not getting back to you a few weeks ago. You'll see why below, and I'll be available to get together over the next few weekends...if you're still interested. I was writing a note to Eric, over at Bumper Plugs (great guy, awesome service and products, btw), letting him know some of what I had been doing to my car...and, well, I realized that I am a man obsessed. And the first thought that popped into my mind was; go tell other people who are obsessed too, and you can all obsess together ;) Well, you might be able to find more balance in your life, but I am obsessive from time to time. And without further adu, here is a copy of what I had written to Eric and want to share with you: ...a little about my project... The project includes a Pioneer head unit (single DIN AVIC-N3 with fold-out screen), Sirius sat, XM sat, XM Nav-Traffic (nice to have in LA), GPS nav, iPod adapter, 3 Alpine PDX amps (4x150, 2x150 and 1x1000), MB Quart speakers all around (with their 8 crossovers), 8" JL sub in a hand crafted cabinet (covered in OEM carpet to match the interior). I also deleted the spare tire and pulled the Bose system's amp out of the front-trunk, and replaced it with a compressor and tire repair kit (don't want to ruin my tires with Fix-a-Flat), and created a hidden cabinet (covered in more of the OEM carpet) to hide the crossovers and this awesome piece from Rockford Fosgate, called the three-sixty.2 interactive signal processor, which allows me to control every single speaker (individually or together in pairs or as a whole), using my Bluetooth enabled Palm device from up to 30 feet from the car. That was a last minute, absolutely stoked that I found it, type of purchase. The only thing that I'm going to 'change' is the head unit. I'd like to sell the N3 (it's the newest Pioneer fold-out), and I've already purchased the double-din Z1 with Bluetooth (for phone, mostly) and a 30gig HDD. I guess that it's their unit to compete with the OEM units coming in a lot of cars that handle everything. Since it can play DVD's, I don't have to get a player, but it would be nice to get a screen that the passenger could put in their lap and watch a flick or play a video game on longer trips...but then we should probably just sit on the couch, right? This project has taken (conservatively) 3 weeks. I don't know how many of those times I started working at 6pm and ended at 8am or 9am, and went back to work, but it's been a lot...several of them back-to-back and back-to-back-to-back. To say that this has become an obsession would be an understatement. The folks at CEC laughed when I went in to get new wheels, because I had all of the crossovers and amps on the floor and back wall of the trunk, and they couldn't get to the wheel key. I guess that I should state that I have had all of the windows tinted pretty dark (not the windshield, obviously) on a seal grey metallic '03 996TT, and have the black Formula GT wheels from Techart and Bridgestone Potenza S-02 tires front and rear at 30ZR18 (rear) and 40ZR18 (front) (they're SOOO much better than the Perelli's that were on it when I bought it used with 20,000 miles about 3 months ago). It was CPO at the time, but for sure couldn't get that designation again (well, besides for the obvious reason...that I'm the second owner). I also added a new intake from Evolution Motorsports (the V-Flow induction system) and have side-skirts and exhaust from Techart on the way. Cosmetically I have done things like change the center console, delete the back windshield wiper (it rains twice a year here in LA), replaced the gold emblem on the hood with a silver one, put a carbon-fiber lid on the storage bin in the center console, CF around the hazards and ignition (and more coming for the outside mirrors and upper center console), and I have ordered a few more things coming and going on. I already have allumi-look accents on the parking brake and shifter, and i added the silver bezels around the gauges, and I just ordered the dash trim in allumi-look, a new fuse box cover in the body color (I think), etc., etc. I need to get a detail job and clean a few things up, then I'll post some pics of before, during and after, although I didn't take too many 'during' because I was so engrossed, and the after pics aren't really 'after', because i want to do more visually with the stuff that I have installed, to make it look less like...well, I installed it :). ~~~~~~~~ I know many of you have probably done much much more to your car, and some probably are shaking their heads at how few performance based changes have been made, but I'll get there. I started with what I knew, which was nothing, and went from there to the next logical place, afterall, I have 'used' a radio before :) Thanks for reading. Ask any questions you want. Or make comments. I should note that I originally built a false bottom in the trunk, and tried to work the x-overs and amps into that, but I thought it looked sort of poop and opted for a different way to go. BTW: any So Cal get togethers, please add me to the list of people to notify (as if there is such a thing) I'm a PCA member, but there has to be a group of people who get together privately...isn't there? Later, np
  24. I love the V-Flow. I installed mine a few weeks ago, and even noticed snappier starts in my TT...which, well, has snappy starts as it is ;)
