  1. post-106-1121367767_thumb.jpgpost-106-1121367901_thumb.jpgHello,

I'm looking for advice on the oil pressure regulator on a 1999 996.

I spotted an oil leak coming from what i thought was a drain plug under the car, but on closer examination it appears to be the oil pressure regulator. See the pictures above, which were taken from the rear of the car looking forward.

The metal washer around the plug has desintegrated and was cracked causing the leak, so i unscrewed the plug a little and removed the washer.

I've tightened up the plug again but I can swear at idle the oil pressure seems to be higher than before, going up to 5 bar at about 2,500rpm.

I haven't driven the car since.

    Questions :-

    1. Is it the oil pressure regulator ???

    2. Is it critical that I have the correct thickness of washer fitted ???

    3. Should I drive the car, or wait until I fit the correct washer ???

thanks in advance for any advice.

    cheers,

    the prof

  2. Its a piece of cake, do it yourself. i done it loads of times with no probs.

You probably don't need any other parts other than the pads, unless the ones on your car are totally shot and you've worn down the brake sensors.

Word of caution when removing the brake sensor from you old pads, be very careful not to snap off the small plastic clips that hold it in place, or you will need to replace them

    enjoy,

    SP

  3. Azura_C4,

As Tony has said they do fit and I've a brand new set with tyres for sale :-

Full set of brand new beautiful Porsche 996 Turbo Alloys and tyres with DELIVERY MILEAGE ONLY

Original 996 TURBO II hollow spoke lightweight wheels, not turbo II lookalikes.

    2 x Fronts :- 8Jx18 ET50 part nos. 996.362.136.01 with 225/40 ZR 18 N1 Michelin Pilot Sport tyres.

    2 x Rears :- 11Jx18 ET 45 part nos. 996.362.142.10 with 295/30 ZR 18 N1 Michelin Pilot Sport tyres,

Will fit 996 Turbo, GT2, C4S, GT3 Mk 2, 993 Turbo, 993 C4S/C2S and possibly normal Carrera models, but please check compatibility with your car before bidding.

I know that they fir narrow body 996 cars, see Tony's car who's done it :- wwww.renntech.org/forums/index.php?act=Garage&CODE=12&CID=48

The wheels are immaculate, the tyres are new and they come with the original TURBO centre caps.

Postage of £50 to mainland UK will have to be paid buyer or alternatively pick up from Central Scotland.

Delivery could be arranged within sensible driving distance from Central Scotland.

Tyres alone would cost in the region of £850.

see ebay for full details & photos :-http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2478460426

  4. Thanks for the advice guys.

It looks like the turbo wheels should be ok, I'm negotiating a price with the seller now, so if I get a good deal I might as well buy them.

If the rear turbo alloys have an offset of 45mm, will I need spacers to make them sit correctly ??

If they don't fit then I'm sure a turbo owner would like them as a spare set for the track.

    cheers SP

  5. Hi,

anybody got a spare Becker cd changer to head unit cable they'd like to sell ???

I've bought a used changer with no cable and my car does not have the cable pre-installed at the factory.

I know that some cars had this cable installed from new even though no changer was optioned, so if somebody has subsequently upgraded by fitting a changer they may have a spare cable that came with the changer lying around.

    Cheers,

    Stephen

  6. Hello,

Does anybody know if 996s were fitted with Cd Changer connection cables in the front luggage compartment even if the car was supplied new without a Cd Changer ???

I've looked for the cable ends in the luggage compartment but I can't find them !!!

If no cable was supplied where can I buy one (preferably in the UK) to connect Becker Silverstone 2660 Changer to the head unit.

Any help/advice would be much appreciated ???

Any links to DIY changer install info would also be helpful.

    Cheers,

    SP

  7. I'm in the UK and have managed to pick up a pair of very cheap LHD clear headlights.

I was wondering if there is a way to remove the plastic clear covers/lens from the LHD lights and switch them with the clear/amber ones on my RHD lights ???

Basically, can the covers be removed and re-installed without breaking them ???

It may be a long shot, but any help would be much appreciated,

    SP

  8. Can Litronic Headlights be changed from left to right hand drive by the flick of a switch ???

I'm sure I heard this somewhere. I've the chance of picking up a pair of so called LHD Litronic headlights for cheap and was hoping to be able to switch them to RHD and fit them to my car here in the UK.

Also, I'm only getting the actual headlight units themselves, no wiring loom or control unit thingy, are these the expensive bits to buy, or can I pick them up cheaply ??

Any help/comments/advice would be much appreciated.

    SP
