  1. Thanks for the advice. I already got stopped a few times and each time it costed me 45 euros which I guess is fine. I just don't go above 162km/h. Cheers, JC
  2. Hi guys, I have a question for thos of you who lives in snowy countries. I am going to take for the first time my C4 Cab to the Alpes in France for a 1 week ski holidays. Could you please give me some advice regarding any things I should take care of such as: Any special care for the roof top. I don't have a hardtop, this is the usual standard black soft-top? I believe I will need some snow chains. Do you think I could use auto socks (http://www.autosock.co.uk/) or is this not working and I shoud purchase the Porsche snow chains? Anything else I may have forgotten? Thanks for your help and time. JC
  3. Living in the UK myself and relatively soon needing a tyre replacement on the front wheels, I have obtained a quote for Dunlops 9090 (I am very happy with this model, I've had no probs such as noise or vibrations)and it was just £133 for the front and £200 for the rear per tyre, all inclusive, i.e. valves, balancing and VAT. The wheel alignment can't be much more on top and I would recommend "Central Tyres" where I have had a good service on previous cars, rather than go to Porsche garages... Thanks, I will contact them tomorrow to get a quote from them. There is no way I would pay Porsche such a high price for tyres and alignment. Just need to find a pro who can do it well without hurting the wheels, and knows how to jack the car... JC
  4. Agreed. In London in between Porsche West London and Porsche Mayfair, we don't have the best client relationship managers around.
  5. Hi, First I would like to thank all contributors to these great forum, I did use it quite a lot since I purchase my first Porsche last April/May. This help newbies in the Porsche ownership world to have a better understanding of the car. As mentioned above, I purchased a Porsche 996 Carrera 4 convertible from 10/2002 with only 20,000 miles so far. I was very happy with the car and purchased it from a Porsche Centre in Hamburg as a Porsche Approved car together with the Porsche Warranty for one year. Yesterday, the steering wheel assistance broke down. Apparently this is mainly due to some dust being present in the tank that blocked the valve. Porsche Centre West London first told me today that this would not be covered under warranty as I need to take care of the vehicle on a regular basis. After a few reasonably heated discussions, it was agreed that this would be covered by the warranty. Especially after I checked the Porsche Approved check list posted by Loren earlier on. The second piece of news to me was the state of the tyres. When I purchased the car, it was with 17inch wheels and I changed them to 18inch wheels. I told the Porsche dealer that as part of the deal I would need new or near new tyres. It was agreed and mentioned on the invoice that those tyres could not be worse than 75% of new. When the car was delivered I checked them from the outside, and they looked OK to me. However, I am not pretending to be a pro. Today, Porsche UK told me that the tyres urgently need to be changes as they are fully used inside due to a bad wheel alignment of the car. They want to charge me nearly $3,000 for a new set of tyres including alignment. I showed the invoice to the UK dealer arguing that tyres when purchased were supposed to be 75% from new (which obviously they are not anymore). First apparently the Porsche network is not a proper network as one is independant from the other and cannot accept claims on behalf of a different Porsche centre. Also, wheels alignment is not part of the Porsche Approved system and that it was for me to check it. Now tell me, how can you check wheels alignment. My car goes straitght, but I cannot check if there is a strong negative camber on the car? Anyway, I was just a bit surprised by this and thought the overall quality of the service would match those of their cars. In the end, I guess I will purchase a full set of new tyres and hope not to deal again with misleading Porsche Centres. Best of luck to you all. JC
  6. I would say a liter every 2,000km to 3,000km. I thought it was much, but nothing compared with your story. Any identified reason why this is the case? JC
  7. Hi, Good for you as you'll have a brand new engine. I also have a 10/02 C4 Cab, could you let me know what do you mean by burning a lot of oil as I usually pu a lot in it too. Thanks, JC
  8. OK. So I guess next Friday for the 20,000 miles servicing I will ask Porsche to adjust the headlights. Too bad. Thanks for your help Lauren and have a good day. I am off to the pub now. :renntech: JC
  9. I was stopped by the police in France 3 weeks ago. My speedo was set-up on the cruise control at 166km.ph (103.2mph) while the laser gun of the police officer did say 159km.ph (98.79 mph). This is 4.4% lower than the mesured speed, and in the 10% range. JC
  10. Unfortunately not as the light will automatically level using a sensor. The owner's manual only relates to standard lights I believe and not to the Bi-Xenon one. I saw on some threads that there is a sensor located somewhere that you can slightly adjust to aim the lights. I just cannot figure out where it is. Here is the most relevant thread I could find. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...hl=litronic+aim Thanks anyway. JC
  11. Thanks for your interest Lauren. The car is actually MY02 and bixenon. JC
  12. Hi Folks, I am sorry to bother you with another Litronic discussion as I already did browse quite a few on the forum, but unfortunately I could not find any answers. I have a 996 C4 Cab from 10/02 with Litronic fitted on it. The aim is very low right now and I hardly can drive at night so far. I read on the forum that you can adjust the sensor manually to level the lights to a higher position. But I could not find any thread relating to where is the Litronic sensor located. Any help would be greatly appreciated, and also save me a few bucks for a beer  . Cheers, JC :renntech:
  13. The analog speedo will be in Km/h on a German car. You can change over between mph and kph on the digital speedo by twisting a button. Thanks very much! I was a little concerned that maybe the European clusters didn't have the Canadian / US facility. Thanks again Hi, I also imported in the UK a 996 C4 Conv from Porsche Hambourg and got it through the DVLA. The speedo is not an issue as you can easily change from mlph to kmph and vice versa. The main issue was to get the headlights from EU standard to UK standard for the MOT. I only managed to go through it with patches so far. I could not manage to find the place to move the headlights as they are xenon and I could not find the right place to adapt them, but still looking. JC
  14. Try removing your idle control valve (left side of throttlebody) and clean it with carb spray. How do you access the idle control valve please. have the same issue after adding oil? Thanks. JC
  15. I just added a quart on my 02 C4 Cab after 3,000 miles around Europe and pressure is around 4bar. However, as soon as I added the oil (5W40 Synthetic), the engine idle regime could not settle down at 750rpm and stayed at 1,250rpm which sounds anoying. Any of you already had the issue? Thanks.
  16. Hi, It would be great if I could have your opinion on this matter? I recently purchased a 996 C4 convertible from 10/2002, 3 month ago to be precise. Following 3,000 miles, I needed to refill the oil level (about 1 liter) as on the computer it was showing the bottom bar at engine start-up. I added oil that I purschased from a dealer who advised me on synthetic 5 W 40. I only added oil to the engine up to the mid-level necessary (middle bar on the computer at start-up). Following this whenever I start the engine and use the car for a while, the idle regime will not go below 1,250 rpm instead of 750 rpm previously. Do you guys have any idea why this is the case? If not, would you know how to fine-tune the engine idle regime? Thanks. JC
  17. Thanks. I will look at it tonight. Also, do you any clue as to the normal pressure level of the engine? JC Oil Pressure: Cold engine, all speeds - 5 bar Warm engine, idle - 1.5 to 2 bar Warm engine, above 3000 rpm - 4 bar+ Thanks for your help guys.
  18. Thanks. I will look at it tonight. Also, do you any clue as to the normal pressure level of the engine? JC
  19. Hi all, I recently acquired my first Porsche: 10/2002 C4 Cabriolet 6 speed 25,000km LHD from Germany. I received the car 3 weeks ago in perfect condition with the full servicing done late January 2006. At that time, when I was starting the car, the oil level would show full level on the board computer, and oil pressure would be around 3.5 bar at 3,000 rpm :D . One week ago, I took the car to go for a 3,000km tour around France. Everything was fine. But last week-end :( , when I started the engine the board computer shows the minimum level of oil in the engine, and oil pressure is now around 4.5 bar at 3,000 rpm (even near 5 at high rpms  ). I was wondering if I should put back some oil in the engine (if yes, please advise me for what you would use), and if this is normal to consume that much oil for 3,000 km? Also, after having spent some time in the RennTech forum, I was also worried for RMS issues, but there is absolutely no traces of oil leakage on the ground when I move the car. Thanks for your help. JC
  20. Yep, it is possible. I was thinking about doing it myself but with the UK ban on handsets I decided that I can make do with the in-dash mic. Keep your eyes open on Ebay as the handsets crop up regularly. Thanks, I am already browsing Ebay and keep an eye to see if I can find the phone module that goes in the PCM. With a bit of luck, it should costs a lot less than the Porsche Tequipment pricing of £600.
  21. Hi all, I am now the proud new owner of a black 2002 996 Carrera 4 Cabriolet that I received last Friday. I will post pictures of the car later on as I have been using it and did not take the time to take pictures of it. The car has a lot of options including PCMII with Sat Nav but not the phone module. Would you happen to know if it's possible to purchase and add to the PCM the phone module, appart from doing it at my local Porsche Dealer as it is quite expensive for a phone system. Thanks, JC
