  1. Richard, check out this link. Once I got the thing to work I was very satisfied with it. Cost $150.00 CDN. AK http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...121entry47121
  2. Where are you located? AK
  3. True enough - thanks guys! AK
  4. Thanks M3 - sounds likke good advice. Oh well - another DIY project down the drain....................... AK
  5. Yes, I'm sure that I will have it re-painted next spring - but just in case I wanted to fill the hole now - what should I use???? Thanks, AK
  6. Hi, Here is a pic of a gouge out of my rear bumper. Any suggestions for what material to use to fill the hole? I have virtually no DIY experience so specific info would help - ie - what product to use to fill the hole - what or how to sand it smooth etc. Many thanks as always for all your help! AK :)
  7. Thanks Loren - it worked! AK
  8. That is EXACTLY it!!! Thanks Toolpants - I'll file away in the morning and see if it works. Many thanks again - you guys are great! AK :renntech:
  9. Thanks Toolpants - just took the pic - will upload it in a few secs. AK Sorry about the focus - will this pic do? Thanks for your help! AK
  10. I bought this OBD2 code reader yesterday and for some reason I can't get it to fit onto the Boxster's connector (yes, it's right side up!) My car's connector is sort of pink and appears to have the same pin set up - but no luck getting it to attach. Do I need another attachment? Please advise. Thx AK
  11. Thanks Loren - I wish it could be me fixing that stuff - but that's not very likely I'm afraid! AK
  12. Thanks Loren. Just fyi a reputable repair shop here in Toronto gave the car a thorough going over on both counts - with the CEL the fault codes always pointed to the O2 Sensors and they (and the MAF) were replaced twice - but the CEL keeps coming on. With the Airbag light the wiring harness was changed and bing - the light came on again! Question - (a) should I keep digging and (B) should I get the Durametric so I can at least get the codes and turn the lights off! Thanks for your advice. AK
  13. Hi Guys - I'm just re-posting hoping for a little guidance on this one........................ Thanks, AK
  14. No Sweat - glad I could help. I regularily check those drain tubes now! ak
  15. Hi All - I have a 98 Boxster (non S) with 60K Miles. Since I bought this car (which I truly love) about a year ago, the CEL has been on just about the entire time. (I didn't know this when I bought the car as the bulb had been removed!@). All O2 sensors and the MAF have been replaced twice and the other likely candidates have been given a good going over - all to no avail. Sorry I do not have the codes at this point - but when previously checked - it was always the O2 sensors (which were then changed) Second, the AB light has come on repeatedly, been cleared, and re-appeared a short time later. In this case the wiring harness was also replaced - but no luck with the light! Questions: 1. Assuming for the purpose of this question that the CEL is not flashing.......it is worth tearing the car apart to find the source of the problem? For the time being I've covered it with a piece of black electrical tape so it won't bug me, but I've left a sliver visible so if it starts to flash................... 2. Is it worth spending $500 CDN to buy the Durametric device to read and clear the codes? and 3. Does anyone have an view on how will these two issues might affect the marketability of the car when I trade the car in for a newer model at the dealer sometime next year. Should these be dealt with? And - just for your info - the car is running very well - no noticeable issues at all! Many thanks in advance for any advice or suggestions............ akpud
  16. I have the same issue with the driver's side window - but only when it's wet - I seems that the window is rubbing against the seal. I too would be interested in knowing is there is a DIY cure ie lube etc - or should the stripping be replaced. akpud 98 Boxster
  17. Thanks - and I would never have thought about the trunk issue! Good point! akpud
  18. Thanks Nick - this is exactly the kind of info I'm looking for. I do plan to get out for a test drive - but both my bank and I are afraid of the consequences! Anyone with further input would be appreciated! akpud
  19. Hi Alex - I have a 98 Boxster (non S), and I've never driven a 996 or 997. I'm looking at the possibility to moving to a 996/997 Cabrio. Is it possible that you could give me your views on the differences between the 986 and the 996/997 generally in terms of feel, handling, pure enjoyment etc. Any comments would be appreciated............. BTW - that's a hell of a car! Thanks, akpud.
  20. Thanks Paul, akpud
  21. Hi - does anyone have the Part Number for the 2 plastic grills in the Boxster's front bumper. Mine is a 98 (non S) with black plastic grills in a silver bumper. Thanks, akpud
  22. Thanks - that's probably a good plan! :lightbulb: akpud
  23. Thanks Rolando - yes it is more than a few drops - it actually looks more like a milky film that covers a significant portion of the horizontal part of the fins. The reason that I'm trying to repair it myself is that I'm getting kinda tired of having to continually go back and have things re-done..................... Anyway, just in case I do decied to DIY - does anyone know exactly what paint to use? :help: Thanks, akpud
  24. Unfortunately neither the clay bar nor the sandpaper had any effect. Can you tell me specifically what kind of matt black paint to use on the plastic part. Thanks again. akpud
  25. Been there - done that! Whatever you do, find that leak FAST or face what I did - replace alarm system (because it's under the seat, replace the door locks, etc etc - it's a bad one and it gets mighty expensive! Good luck! akpud akpud, what exactly was the source of your leak? how did you trace it? what was the repair? any details would be great.... thanks, AG Its a long story.................Was sitting having coffee and looking at the car during a vicious rainstorm last July. Got back into the car after it stopped raining and when we backed up I could actually hear water sloshing - no good! I looked in the trunk, in the well behind the ragtop - but nothing. The sloshing disappeared within a few hours. A few days later I came out to the car and it started beeping at me (as the Alarm module was getting soaked to its limit of tolerance, I guess), the trunk started to pop open on its own and the windows started to open and close all by themselves. The car was possesed! Had it towed to the dealer where they diagnosed a blocked drain tube (before this I never knew the **** things exisited) which had backed up and flooded the alarm compartment under the seat. Apparently the drain tube was blocked with leaf debris and such. Had to replace: - Alarm Unit - Both door locking mechanisms - Gas Cap locking mechanism The work the repair shop did on the car also broke the Side mirror mechanism (which I had to fix) and the wiring harness for the seatbelt (which they fixed) but now.....guess what - the airbag light is on and no amount of cancelling the code will turn it off. Also had to send the car from the repair shop to a Porsche dealer to 'marry' the new Alarm Unit to the car and the new key. The back to the Porsche dealer because they forgot to code the key to open the trunk. The happy news was that it was all covered by insurance to the tune of around $6000 CDN. :D I hope you caught the leak before it got to the alarm unit!!! Bottom line - I still love the car - but I'm scared of those drain tubes! Good luck - if you need any more details, let me know. akpud
