  1. Thank you logray for the detailed reply. I was wondering if we know who is manufacturing the actual Porsche part (Porsche does not make rotors or pads). I don't want to go for an alternative, I want the exact same part - I just don't care to pay extra for the "Porsche" logo on the cardboard box it comes in.

Hi all, My 2003 996 cabrio has the following intermittent problem: When I try to close the top via the dashboard switch, the roof cover opens but then the process stops - the top does not start moving up/forward. This happens every now and then, and usually if I open the top and close it again it works. Other than that the roof is working fine - no noises, not struggling at all etc. I assume the problem is with some kind of sensor that tells the car that roof cover is fully open, but I cannot find where that sensor is to check if it working properly. Any ideas? Thanks, Michael
  6. Apparently there is a Porsche TSB for this - you just cut off a small piece of the plastic replacement and glue it on the latch. No dismantling is required.

  9. Hi, I am looking for the part number for the plastic cover of the main latch for the convertible top of a 2003 996. You can see in the 2 photos the part I need - in one of the photos I have pulled the plastic off to separate it from the latch. Without the plastic cover, the latch does not fully press the switch and the top cannot complete the close sequence. Thanks, Michael
  10. Thank you Loren for the diagram. I lubricated every joint with WD-40 and this seems to have done the job!!
  11. Hi Loren! The pedal seems to get stuck (momentarily) at something plastic when it is fully depressed. I then hear the plastic noise and the pedal is released as normal. It is not a squeak, it is more like hitting a metal object on the edge of a hard plastic board.. I don't know how to explain this better. Does the clutch spring have a top cover around the hole where its piston goes? If so could this be out of place getting in the way of the piston?
  12. Hi! Lately when I press the clutch pedal all the way down, when I release it it gets stuck for half a second or so and then it releases. It also makes a noise as if it gets stuck with something plastic. I feel it getting stuck to something as well. The noise comes from the pedal or the area under the steering wheel. Any ideas what to look for? Thanks, Michael ps. The car is MY03 996 convertible
  13. The changes in PCM are part of standard upgrades that Porsche does - I don't think they are part of a facelift. The salesman mentioned (amongst other changes) more power (I think 515bph) in the facelift car.
  14. A friend's MY04 996 recently had an intermediate shaft failure and he is now going for a replacement engine with an estimated cost of 15,000 euros. This got me worried and I thought I should ask the more experienced about this. 1. Is there a way to check whether your car is close to failing? 2. Is there some preventive work that can be done (perhaps during a clutch replacement) for this type of failure? 3. Is there something that the owner did wrong and got this failure (eg forgot to replace oil in time, oil level was too low, etc)? I have MY03 cabrio and lately I find myself taking it too easy with the car, subconsciously worried - this is not good!
  15. A friend went to a Porsche dealer to order a 997TT and the salesman told him that there is an upcoming facelift for the TT expected this fall. Does anyone know for a fact that this is true and perhaps what that facelift will include? Thanks, Michael
