Replacing the CV boots is not a terrible job, but messy, and involves disassembling the CV joint, cleaning it, and repacking. The only special tools would be a set of cv boot pliers (for re-fitting the boot clamps) and whatever special bit is required to fit the cv joint bolts (can't remember the shape, off the top of my head). There are at least 2 decent sets of instructions for rebuilding cv joints available online...
where can I find instructions on cv joint rebuilds?
thanks

Was there more than one type of shock available on the 2000 Boxster S?
What option code should I be looking for and where will I find it?
thanks

thanks for the feedback.
That DIY is excellent.
Between this and the CV joints, sounds like I'm going to get good at suspension work.

thanks for the feedback.
I was quoted $900 at the dealership, so I'll probably give it a try on my own first.

The boots cracking depends on climate, use, etc. If the car sits a lot, they're more likely to dry rot more and split. It's normal so don't worry about it, but replace them asap so you don't damage the joints.
It just seemed a little early for boot failure. According to service records for the Boxster, the RMS was replaced before I bought it. I wonder if the boots were damaged during R&R of the tranny.
My only other experience with Porsche CV joint boots is in my 1973 914. I haven't replaced them in 20 years and I suspect they are original.

MY 2000 Boxster S with 32000 miles. I noticed fluid leaking from the left rear suspension area. Starting at the last spring rung and going down the strut housing, there is caked dirt that is "wet". Are the stock struts gas or hydraulic? Do these commonly fail like this? Or is this something else? I checked the brake lines and caliper. The backside was covered with the same stuff as the strut, so I'm not sure where its coming from at this point.
thanks

MY 2000 Boxster S with 32,000 miles on it. It appears that one inner CV joint boot is completely split, and the other is cracked. Is this normal for them to wear out this fast? Can the boots just be replaced? What is the estimated cost?
thanks

Car has had all its maintenace at 60K and a recent oil change. I also cleaned the K&N air filter for good measure. I have treated the car with Techron concentrate. Seems to run better if I use an octane boost. Although it did throw out a HUGE cloud of white smoke the other day (usually just little puffs ), but still no check engine light. If it was the MAF, wouldn't I have some idle problems since the fuel/air mixture would be wrong? Thanks for the feed back!!
How long ago did you add the K&N filter. Those can cause problems with the MAF and other compenents because of the oil in the filter.

Loren gave you the Beru number and you have the Bosch number, for your car. I have noticed no difference between the brands when we do a plug change. Either will work and Porsche seems to switch between brands.
What about NGK plugs BKR6EKUB for MY00 Boxster S
I was recently sent these when I asked for Boxster plugs. Will these perform correctly?
CV joint boot clamp

I replaced the CV joint boots on my 2000 Boxster S. 2 of the boot kits had this style of boot clamp.
Are these OK? The originals wouldn't fit around the new boot.
