  1. Welcome. I have found it useful to remove any aftermarket electronic equipment when chasing parasitic draws. Radio, radar detectors etc.
    I’m 3 years into ownership of my 02 with 36,000km.
    I recommend pulling off the front bumper to check the condition of and clean the radiators and install a mesh if one isn’t there.
    I just finished chasing suspension noises which were coming from upper mounts, go with 997 versions, and lower control arms.
    I see the original rear spoiler is gone. Yeah!! You don’t have to deal with leaking hydraulics.
    Like any Porsche they like to be driven hard.

  2. By oil cooler I assume you mean atf cooler?  Did you replace the atf? If so, was the correct fluid used? Is the atf properly filled to the correct level?  Any evidence of intermix in the atf? Durametric will read trans codes...anything there? 

    Yes I am referring to the atf cooler.
    Yes I changed the atf to a compatible fluid, filled until it came out the fill hole. No evidence of atf mixing but there is evidence of engine oil mixing. I don’t have Durametric.

    I hope someone here can help.

    I’m helping a friend with a Boxster he bought at auction.

    At first the car started and drove but it wouldn’t go into park. I dropped the oil pan to see that the selector had popped out of the slide shaft. I loosened the valve body and refitted the selector into the slide shaft. All was fine until as the transmission got hotter the shifter would get stiffer until too much force was required to get it into or out of park. I also noticed the transmission was very hot and when the engine was turned off some atf would leak out of the breather on top of the transmission. So I changed the oil cooler thinking it was defective. Now still the same issue.

    When cold the transmission operates normally. As it reaches operating temperature and the fans come on it becomes harder to move the shifter. The transmission itself feels very hot to the touch. My 996 doesn’t feel that hot.

    Any ideas?

  4.   I have done some searches  and nothing seems to match my issue, or the threads simply stop without a satisfactory conclusion.

     

    A friend bought a Boxster at auction which would not go into Park. I checked the cable, links and switch, all are fine. I removed the oil pan to find the link inside has separated from the slide rod. I loosened the valve body enough to reattached the slide rod and re-torqued the valve body. Refilled the transmission with new filter. When cold it selects gears and drives fine. But as it warms up, the selector gets stiffer until it pops out again and I cant select park. Which means as the transmission warms up something is binding the slide rod inside the transmissions.

    Does anyone have any insight as to what I should do next?

  5. I’m having the same issue. I pulled the tank unit and yes it rattles like a baby rattle.
    I’m afraid to open it lest I’m left stranded. So when I have enough money I plan to buy a used unit, drop it in and open the defective unit.
    I changed strut, strut bearing, stabilizer link. I found the problem when I had the car on jack stands checking ball joints and tie rods.
    My 02 996tt has 30,000km.
