  1. From a few days ago, when I lock or unlock my car the locks now are very quiet. They unlock the car just fine, but I was used to hearing them loudly go thunk, thunk. Now I cannot really even hear them make any noise hardly.

Also I have been running different tranny fluid- supposedly the gt3 fluid, it shifts great but I have noticed I can always feel the gears when changing gears, there is seemingly no cushion to inhibit the feeling or whatever, cause for concern?

Lastly, anyone have ps2 tires? Is it me or does it seem that they like more pressure than others/ they have squirmy sidewalls? I am running 36/40 and the rears squish around corners. Further even at normal pressure in the fronts the car really likes to move around on the grooved freeway at 80+. I find myself making adjustments a lot and it's annoying.

RE: the PS2's = YES! I switched from non-N rated Pilot Sports and on a recent club drive, I noticed significant squirming. I was getting ready to take my car back to have the alignment checked (Euro 030 suspension) but maybe it's the tire pressure. I run 32 front and 36 rear. I ran the same pressures on the other Pilot Sports and got 33K miles on the rears so if these PS2's require much higher pressures, I hope it doesn't come at the expense of tire wear. I'll bump them up and see if the squishiness goes away.

Jeff, I am getting 8K - 10K on my rear tires. Spirited driving but nevertheless that's what I am getting. The front tires do about 20K miles.

  2. Here's my take on the Fabspeeds, they are a good quality muffler that has a deeper more aggressive sound than PSE, one of the reasons I got them, overall loudness about the same. They are probably 60% louder than stock exhaust, they do have what I would call mild resonance at cruising speeds, nowhere near other aftermarket exhausts I have heard. I have heard and driven them on a 3.6 cab and found them quite tame compared to a 3.4 coupe.

I was more than happy with the Fabspeeds until I heard the GHL regular versions, this was the perfect sound IMO, a raspy loud bark yet fairly quiet in the lower revs, probably 25-30% louder than stock unless you are on it. The best thing, there is ZERO resonance at any cruising speed.

The sound is also very individual, one mans throatiness is anothers unbearable resonance.  For example, my wife hated PSE, found them way too loud in the garage. ALL of the performance exhausts will be louder than stock, that is a fact, be it PSE, Ruf, Fabspeed, GHL etc.... If you are not sure you will like a louder car I would not buy an exhaust, especially an aftermarket exhaust. Also try to hear the exact combination before you buy, which may be hard. What sounds good on a '04 Cab may be quite different on a plain jane '99 C2. :drive:

Anybody has the tools to measure the ACTUAL DB ( decibel ) at idle, 3K revs etc etc. that's most likely the only real measure to determine how much louder it really is istead of " I think it's about 60% louder than...". An additional 3 DB equals TWICE as loud as the previous measurement.

  3. Here is what I did. I just "rest" my Detector on the alarm flasher in the middle of the dash, that anchors the units nicely and I just string the cable to the cigarette lighter socket. I have the cordless Escort but I always use the cord because I believe it has more power that way. No messing with connecting and wiring cables etc and easy to take out and use in a different car. Note also that when I use the wind screen sun guard I just slide the detector out.

  4. SPR, mine does the same ( C2 1999) and I have a new battery installed. That does not seem to be the issue. Car electrics is somewhat of an antiquated science for sure. In addition to this feature ( dimming immediately after start-up) I also notice that the charge , based on the position of the needle, seems to go down by at least 1 Volt when I have the airconditioner on. It goes down to about 12.5 volts where as I would assume 13.5 - 13.8 Volt is what it should be. It is almost as if the alternator can not supply sufficient voltage OR because the voltage regulator was designed and produced in 1942 by Mr Lucas himself. I am of course assuming that the voltage level shown on the gauge is measuring the voltage that is charging the battery. I would take that this is a correct assumption. However, I seem to get surprised over and over again. Maybe it showing the voltage to some other electric device hidden in the bowls of the car... who knows. Yes, who knows ???

  5. I have a 1999 C2 and I have a BRITTAX seat in the back which fits perfectly. My son is a tall 5 year old and has no problems sitting in the BRITTAX seat in the back for long distances. Note that I can not have the passenger seat all the way back because there would not be enough space for his legs. Of course when he is 6, he can sit normally in the Porsche back seat as per the laws in California.

In general, the problem with a child car seat for the Porsche is the fact that the actual bottom of the seat is TOO WIDE ( left to right ). Seems the ONLY seat that can be adjusted down from 17 inches all the way to 12 inches is the Brittax. That's all it takes to make that seat fit perfectly. Note that I do not use ( and never have) the back of the child seat. I am using the seat more as a booster seat at this point . If you do use it with the back attached, you may find that the backrest of the child seat is pretty upright ( read uncomfortable)...I think a little too much for Cab and you may think about taking the Porsche backrest out and use the Brittax seat back instead of having the Porsche back rest just taking up space there.. If you use the Brittax seat it will bring the seating space several inches forward ie you now have TWO backs which will reduce the seating space between the backrest and the front passenger seat too much. I paid 70 bucks for the car seat.

The way I tried it out is that I drove my car to a Kid-R-us type shop where I knew they had the Brittax seat. I just tried is at the shop and as I said , it fits perfectly after I narrowed the bottom seat which, BTW, has even arms rests.

I can make a picture if you are interested.

    Cheers

  6. I moved from the European continent to England and took my DeTomaso Pantera with me. This is many moons ago but because the fact that the road system has really not changed too much for the general roads in use there ( excluding Motor ways - freeways), I believe this statement is still valid. I almost killed myself on one of the narrow roads, tagging allong behind a bus...seeing a space to overhaul and only finding out that the space to overhaul was getting small in a hurry. I managed to throw the car back onto the left lane in time to avoid the opposite traffic. That was the moment I decided to sell the car.. Which I did within a week or so. Trust me it's a ROYAL pain to check traffic from the wrong seat in the car and / or trying to rely on a co-pilot to tell you "it's safe to overhaul". There is obvious not such a problem on a wide open freeway. Also the comment of having the ability to drive into Europe with the steering wheel on the left hand side, although true, does not really help lots of folks because the only time you end up in Europe is on a 2 week vacation and you might be better of taken the Airplane down to Spain , Portugal or Italy - that's where it is warm enough for a vacation folks - because of the traffic in mainland Europe. Oh.. and did I mention the cost of the gasoline driving down South?? Charter flights to the South really start at 150 bucks for one week INCLUDING 2 meals at least.

    Cheers
