  1. Thanks, I appreciate the help. I will call some audio places today and hope that I reach someone knowledgable. So far, I've only ran into people that say the harness doesn't exist and you're forced to cut into the existing harness.

I don't have the paperwork here, so I can't be sure, but I think that I used the Euro Antenna Adapter  OEM F to Motorola M, from Crutchfield when I installed an FM modulator on my CDR-23. I think this will work for an install of an Alpine.

As for the wiring harness, I am not sure.

I will try to dig up the paperwork this evening.

  2. I have the basic system, so no amp to worry about. Here's a link to the antenna adapter section at Crutchfield, can you or someone point out the correct adapter for me: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-GO2k5vfX15s/c...?g=119400&avf=N

Also, the following link is what I've seen in some threads as a possible wire harness that I can use to avoid cutting my existing wire harness: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-mo2ZaC46Dyj/c...01758&s=0&cc=01. Can someone confirm that this is the correct one for my 2003 boxster? Thanks.

Somewhere I have the number for the antenna adapter, but as peter said if you have the amp in the front trunk it is not going to work with an aftermarket head unit.

  3. Hi All,

I've done a few searches on the board, but did not find anything. I've just purchased an Alpine CD deck with an IPOD interface and am anxious to install it. Can anyone tell me what type of antenna adapter to purchase for the Alpine deck to replace the CDR-23 unit? I'm still awaiting the tool to remove the OEM deck and therefore, cannot view the actual connector. I would love to know the information in advance so that I can order the correct adapter ASAP. Also, does anyone know if there is a wire harness to do a direct connection from the Alpine to the boxster? If not, what wire harness would I need? From some search results, I saw a wire harness from a VW/Audi that may work, but need a confirmation if it would work for a boxster that orginally had a CDR-23 as well (meaning, not sure if all of the boxster model years share the same wire harness for the radio)? Thanks in advance.

  4. Wow, 7 hours might be a record. hehe Those U pipes just need several good wackings from a mallet. I mean, you literally have to hit them as hard as you can. Those pipes are tougher than they appear. Anyway, glad to hear that you've completed the install. The GHL definitely has a lot of resonance around 2.5-3.5k rpm, but it mellows out over time. I've happy with mines as well and love the exhaust note after 4k rpm. Also, I love the weight savings as it's much lighter than the OEM muffler. I had a Gemballa before and was not impressed. It was heavier than the stock piece and was only a little louder than the original muffler.

Finally after 7 hours I finally got the GHL muffler installed.  The hardest part was taking out the U pipes.  I had to wd40 them and wiggled them out.  Those took me like 1 1/2 hour.

Wow the muffler sounds very throaty and nice.  The muffler isn't too loud that everyone states...must be the 4 cats in the 03 S.  I have to say this is a very nice exhaust.

  5. You need to remove those U-pipes first before you can drop the muffler. For each side, you need to remove the bolts/nuts for each joint connecting to the u-pipe. From the secondary cat, there are two sets of bolts/nuts that you need to remove from the joint. From the muffler side, there is just one bolt for the joining clamp (looks like a "C", remove the nut and wedge a screw driver or hit one end of the clamp to widen the clamp. After the bolts are removed, spray down the joints with wd-40 and let it soak for a few minutes. Then, take a mallet (hammer with padding) and hit the u-pipe to loosen it. The pipe it pretty tough so don't worry about hitting it too hard.

To address the two long bolts, take out the support bracket that is attached to the transmission. There are four bolts and you can push back the muffler if you need more clearance. Good luck.

    Help guys

I removed all the nuts and bolts...but those two long bolts in the top bracket are killing me.  I removed the nuts but the bolts are too long and does not push out.  Plus those pipes that connects to the exhaust does not slide out...I used a lot of wd40 and I cannot wiggle it out.  Do anyone have any tips or tricks.  I been working on this for 3 hours now and I seen other done it in 2 hours.

    I have a 03 Boxster S.

    thanks

  6. Check out the pictorial section in the following site:

    http://www.smiley.net/boxster

There are quite a few images where you can figure out the install. I've done the install/uninstall a few times myself and I used the images for my 1st go at it. BTW, if you do not desire to remove the rear bumper cover, then just remove the bracket at the rear of the transmission as the top of the bracket is fastened to the top of the muffler. Once you get underneath the car, I'm sure you can figure out what to unbolt. Good luck.

    Hi,

I was wondering has anybody installed a ghl muffler or pse by themselves?

Is there TSB available that shows where all the nuts and bolts are located?

    Thanks

  7. I believe I read somewhere that the extra HP difference between the standard S and the special edition is due or partly due to a larger volume airbox. Anyone know if this is true? If so, anyone have a part number so I can call for quotes? =) I'm thinking about getting the larger box (if it exists) and getting rid of the resonance chambers on my '03 S. A lot of people have recommended the Evo intake, but I don't think I can live with the possibility of comtaminating the MAP sensor and I also prefer the engine response from an airbox versus an open air filter. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  8. Hi, I'm still the new guy here. I was browsing through the Boxster Hacks website and stumbled across a thread regarding the '98 boxster seats all having the heater coil built-in regardless of whether the option was order or not. To enable the feature, one would just need the buttons and necessary wire harness. Can anyone tell me if this is still the case of the MY03?

  9. Hi,

I recently purchased a '03 986 S with 4k miles. It was a steal, but unfortunately it doesn't have much in the area of options. One of the 1st areas in need of improvement is the audio section. The dash speakers and CDR-23 just aren't going to cut it. Being that I'm new, can someone please tell me what would be involved in installing the Bose setup? Would I be better off with an aftermarket setup? Are there any manufacturers out there that make a similar sub enclosure like the Bose unit? Thanks in advance!

    -Gordon
