  1. I have a MY00 with the SSR GT2 rims, they are a 5 spoke open style 3 piece rim. I have a silver car, with color matched rims. I have changed out the side maker lights etc. I was going for that Mono color look.

    BUT...

I thought that I might paint the brakes bright red. I think that would really set of the car. Is this DIY project or should I have a shop do it? Next how do I get the Porsche logo back on there. I will do a photo log of this project and post it if anybody can point me in the right dir.

    Thank guys

  2. Check your drainage holes around the top. There are several if you open your top halfway and look around the bottom of the top. They may have gotten clogged and the water can only go into the car.

BTW- If I remember correctly...the computer is under the seats! Dry it up quick...cause your talking thousands to replace this piece!

The water is coming from behind the radio somewhere. Running down the font firewall and pooled in the front left corner of the footwell on the passanger side.

How on earth would water get down that way.

  3. I have a MY00 2.7L. I live in Boston and we have been getting a ton of rain and I have not had any issuse's with water in my car.

I then went to a Touch-Less car wash yesterday and the water pressure was so strong it got water through my window seals! my left are got pretty wet. No biggie I thought. I drove the car another 100 + miles that day. Yes really that far.. and no other issuse's.

I went to use the car this morning and the passanger footwell was pretty wet. As I took a spin around the 'hood & water trickled out on to my feet in the drivers side. ( mind you its sunny today)

What do you think I should do? :cursing:

Did I mess up my car somehow by taking to that car wash? Oh and just for fun my Od reads 50997 miles. Nice just out of factory! GRRRRR

Any help or ideas would be great

  4. My guess is that someone has removed a car telephone kit - and forgotten that speaker!

I was right, its a HFS-12 from the Nokia car kits, most likely the CARK-91.

you are right it is a Nokia cell phone speaker. I pulled it out this morning. Thanks

    and good call

  5. It's not part of the factory hands free kit. The factory option plays through the cars speakers. The speaker is the type that would have been installed by a cellular dealer. There would have been a charging cradle mounted somewhere near the center console and a transceiver mounted under one of the seats. Most likely the previous owner would have taken everything else and just forgot the speaker. These kit's didn't work well in convertibles and you would need one compatible with your phone. If you have a bluetooth headset, I would stick with it. You can hear okay with them with the top down. I usually put the windows up, if I need to use the phone, to help cut down on wind noise. Most of the blue tooth headsets have good noise cancellation.

so I should i just rip it out?

  6. Hey guys,

I have a MY00 2.7 and I am thnking about adding a strut brace. I have heard everything from adding front only, to both and rear only.

-Is this true, by adding both front and rear strut braces you are more like to go "up on 3"

-By adding both the steering becomes a bit twitchy...

    - A rear strut brace is not needed because of the increased sheet metal back there already due to the engine mounts etc..

I am looking to do very light track work and mostly back road fun!

Thanks everybody. Oh and if it makes a differance I have the SSR rims

  7. NSA?

I have a 00' 2.7L I was poking around in the pass. footwell and there was what appeared to be a small speaker hanging under the dash. I just bought the car a month ago. I thought it might be a alarm speaker, but any ideas would be great! Thanks

Will post pic later this week

Ok guys here is the pic of the odd speaker. this is in the pass. footwell. any ideas?

  8. Thanks for your help everybody the "noise" just went away. I will take a better look when I put on the new zimmer rotors.

    Thanks guys

Not sure if you've resolved this, but this is what I'd do...

Identify where the sound is coming from, jack that side of the car up, pull the wheel off, and inspect closely the caliper and pad. Turn the rotor slowly by hand and see if you can feel/hear the rubbing (if it's the rear wheel, you have to have your handbrake off, the car in neutral and possibly both rear wheels in the air). If you can't see anything obvious, remove the caliper - it's just two bolts with 10mm HEX KEY (like an Allen key). I've never removed the calipers with the pads on, so I'm not sure if you can. I'd suggest you remove the pads first anyway:

    * Remove the little pin on the retaining rod with a flat-head screwdriver

    * Punch out the retaining rod

    * Remove the spring clip (it just falls out after the retaining rod is out)

    * Remove the pads (you may need to push them in a bit if they are too tight against the rotors - I use a small vice)

There are a few DIY guides on how to do the process, with pics, so do a forum search!

    Thanks!

  10. I have a MY00 2.7 with aftermarket 18" SSR GT2 rims.

Well I was driving in light city traffic today and out of nowhereI heard a soft scratching/squealing sound. Hmmm

Well the car has been sitting outside for a week +, and in Boston it has been raining like crazy fo 10days straight. I thought it might be just a bit or rust on the rotors so I used the brakes a bit to try to break them back in.

Well, it stopped. Then a couple of bocks later it came back BUT LOUD!!! It sounded like I had no brake pads and the pads where out of wack and rubbing. I hopped out and took a look.

There was nothing stuck, the rotor showed no rust and the pads look like the have plenty of life in them.

This noise stopped just as sudden as it started. I parked went about may way. Came out 2 hours later and it was back. I double checked to Ebrake (which is a bit loose) and pumped the brake a bit when the car was parked. The noise went away again. Aghhh

I have a car show to go to on Sunday! What is wrong with my ride! Please any ideas of were to look would help. I have a long (+6hours rally ride) this weekend.

    Thanks guys

  11. Wow! Thats a great hack, could you post a link for that. Thank you for all your help.

    PR

Not really (IMHO)... because if you get a beep then something is open - that is the way the system is designed.

I did the side marker/turn signal hack that flashes the turn signals and sidemarks when you set the alarm. As well if flashes the side markers when the turn signals flash (while driving).

  12. I have a '00 will that work for the clear light switch?? I just bought clear side marker lights and would love to keep things even. Any idea what the cost would be?? Oh and my factory Lugs are looking pretty rough, why doesn't Porsche make rust proof like their cars.

    Thanks,

I would like to see a picture of a non SE with the reds.

When the clears came out for 2003 people went crazy with the retrofits. I thought it would happen again with the reds. But it did not.

  14. I would love to be a tester! I have been looking high and low to add some sound to my little car. I thought about using a pair of 6" JL's in the door and then maybe comp's in the dash and rear.... But if you have any better ideas I would like to hear it. I live in Boston, but I travel to NYC fairly often. Let me know, at the very least how you make out. I would really like to be part of this process.

    Thanks,

    I have a 2000 silver 986

    Hi folks,

I own RoadsterSound.com, and my particular area of expertise is getting big sound out of small, stealthy little packages. I make two subwoofer enclosures for the BMW Z3 and am finishing up development on another for the Mini Cooper. I'm about to get started on one for the Boxster and would like to get input from current owners. I've seen a few options for stereo upgrades for the Boxster - the Becker/PNA kit, the Harvey Peck kit, the Techart rear deck kit, and the Bose rear deck kit. I've also heard of another kit, OEM I believe, that converts the door speakers to "subwoofers" (can anyone give me details on this kit?). None of these kits strikes me as ideal - none offer good low frequency performance and all seem expensive for what you get.

What I've got in mind is kind of a combination of the Bose/Techart and Becker/Peck kits above - a rear deck enclosure with a subwoofer (likely either an 8" ported or 10" sealed), amp, and rear speakers. The whole setup will be designed to look OEM, and will be as plug-n-play as possible. Any thoughts, preferences, or suggestions? I'm in the early stages here, so almost anything can be accomodated if warranted. Another option is a molded enclosure that fits in the footwell. The advantage there is that low frequency performance can be better, the obvious drawbacks are that it doesn't look OEM and you lose some passenger legroom (probably about 6", depending on how it all works out).

I'd love to hear input from anyone willing to give it - my goal is build what you all want. The more I can involve owners in the process the better. I'm open to any suggestions you all may have.

I also need a few testers, preferably (but not essentially) near New York City - one 987 owner, and two 986 owners (one with glass rear window, one without). In exchange for their time, pictures, help, and feedback these three folks get free enclosures. If you're interested, email me at kevin@roadstersound[dot]com.
