  1. I have a modified '06 997.1 C2S cab (6sp MT) with 58K miles. Modifications include: -Vividracing single turbo kit with custom exhaust (200 cell race cats) - short shifter - stage 2 clutch At the time of the turbo install, I also had the water pump and the expansion tank replaced as well as the shifter linkage cable. Last night, after a short stint of WOT acceleration, I noticed a distinct chirping in the engine compartment. The chirping only comes on during acceleration (not during constant speed or idle) and increases in frequency as speed increases. I'm thinking it is a belt (serpentine belt? Other belt?). Open to comments/opinions/suggestions. I read on another forum that spraying WD40 on the surface of the serpentine belt makes the chirp go away. Any risks or downsides to that trick? I will be going in for 60K service soon, which will also involve a full brake replacement on all 4 corners, and I would like to wait until then to address the chirp permanently. I look forward to any comments this forum may provide.
  2. I have a 2006 C2S Cab, 6-speed with the multi-function steering wheel (like the carbon fiber wheel 2 pic attached). I am looking to get a second wheel and ship it off to get redone in a thicker version, possibly with Alcantara, etc. Most of the wheels for sale out there, are too expensive to use as a core / donor wheel for this modification. I found a possible 'donor' wheel core, BUT: it is a tiptronic multi-function wheel (as in the brown wheel 1 pic below). My question: is it possible to replace the silver-colored plastic gear up/down rockers on the tip wheel with the solid plastic bits on the 6-speed wheel? If yes, can anyone give me an idea of the part number etc. If no, is there any problem in using the tip wheel with the gear switch buttons disconnected / disabled? I want to keep my original wheel for possible sale of car in the future. Thank you for any feedback / insight.
  3. Thank you for your feedback. Based on what I've read so far, you may be right, but it is also possible the new clutch needs to be 'embedded' or broken in and that can take a while. I'll drive it for a while to see if things improve before taking the car apart again.
  4. I had some performance mods done to my '06 C2S Cab. I had 43,000 miles on the original clutch, and the increased power (turbo kit from Vivid Racing) would mean I'd shorten whatever life the clutch had left even further, so I decided to have it replaced. The new clutch (Clutch Masters stage 2 kit) judders pretty badly whenever I try to start gently in 1st gear. The more I get on the gas before letting the clutch bite, the less judder I get. Thing is, that's not always practical in stop/start traffic . My questions: 1. Is this normal? If not, 2. Will this improve over time as the clutch gets 'broken in'? or 3. Is there something mechanical I need to get looked at? Thank you for any input/feedback
  5. Thanks, but that is an old 996 fob. The 997 key heads are quite different.
  6. You take it to your friendly Indy and he takes it to a dealer for you :)
  7. Thank you, I will play around with it. If anyone has more details or (if possible) a pic that shows where the key comes apart from the fob, I'd be most grateful.
  8. The key fob on my '06 997 S cab broke. It broke on the side that contains the key blade. I found a new one on Ebay, unused but with an already cut key in it. I know how to open the key fob. What I can't figure out, is how to remove / switch out the key blade. Any ideas anyone? Thanks, Patrick
  9. I have a similar issue, but in a slightly different location. On my C4 Coupe, I get a whistling noise coming from the vertical side of the driver-side window as soon as I go over 60. Any ideas what might be the cause here?
  10. I had badly scratched leather on the arm rest and under the passenger front airbag (where you would normally find a glove compartment). I had a leather restorer work on the car for a few hours and now my interior looks like new. All the scuffs and scratches on the door, the glove box and even the seats are completely gone. Cost: $275 2001 C4 Cpe, Arctic Silver / Metropole Blue
  11. That is what I'm hoping. I just want to make sure that that's what this is and that the little puddle is in the right place to be interpreted as condensation.
  12. Yesterday, I put my car in the garage after my commute home (18 miles in dense freeway traffice, so nothing too 'sporty'). I had the air conditioning on during the drive. After I changed out of my work clothes, I went back into the garage to give my windshield a wipedown. I noticed a small (1 sq foot) liquid stain under the car, behind the right front wheel. It's not oil and it does not appear to be coloured. It also does not have any discernable smell (i.e. it's not gasoline). Any idea what this could be? Condensation? Brake fluid? Coolant? __________________ '01 996 C4 Cpe Tip arctic silver / Metropole Blue interior
