Don't see the latest TSB showing up on the list- the latest is the DME upgrade of which my car is included. Wanted to see the VIN's for the valve spring deal hoping mine isn't on it!! Also, I want to contribute so I can view it, but don't know how to use paypal... guess I need my kids to help this computer illiterate.
I spoke with my dealer about this. Apparently, it's not a TSB. It's a recall campaign issue. You either get a phone call from your dealer, or something in the mail from Porsche. There are only twelve cars affected.

I don't think it fits. The Carrera GT clutch is a lot smaller and is designed to bolt-on a different flywheel.

Check inside the trunk to see if you have a paint code sticker. That year, the only orange color was "107 Continental Orange."

I'm pretty sure you can because you can order SportTechno rims on a C2 and they are 295 on the rear. On 2002+ C2's at least.
Well, despite the fact that the Sport Techno rears are 11" wide, they have an offset of 63 mm to accommodate the narrow body 996. The actual Turbo rear wheel's offset is 45 mm. Not a good fit on the narrow body.

That's great, Craig. Keep us posted with the alignment check. Mine was way off on the right side. Both front and rear was toe'd in too much.

Has anyone installed the mesh grilles from the Cup cars? I would think that these might keep the radiators mostly clean?

Same as the Carrera I think... 741 for non metallic black and 744 for metallic black. Should be on the sticker on that hood in your garage... :lol:

I have L719 for flat black and L746 for metallic black. This is for all the 996 models. What do you think are the differences? Solvent vs. water based?

I read that it is set high to meet a minimum federal headlight height standard, but I am not sure if this is fact or fiction.
When I took my GT3 for its first alignment it was set exactly 10mm above the 115mm mark.

There is no minimum headlight regulation to be concerned about. That was back in the 70's. Nowadays, all headlights are designed to sit where they need to be. The main reason why most US spec cars are raised, is because the typical US driver always complains of bumpers rubbing against curbs. That's really all it is.

So are what these people reporting just normal varience, or typical of the cars delivered to the U.S. Have you noticed a 10mm higher front on your GT3, Viken? Im just curious if the raise is done intentionally by Porsche. Thanks!
I have not measured my GT3's ride height, not do I care. However, in looking at pictures of ROW cars and my car, I can see my front being higher by a finger's size. I am going to guess that the raised front on North American cars is intentional, but I am not certain.

I thought that I heard the official Porsche documents say they are the same, but the reality is different.
Based on Porsche documentation, the ride heights are the same. However, some people have reported that their US cars were ~10 mm higher in front.
The 2004 specs are supposed to be:
Front: 115 mm + 5 mm (115-120 mm)
Rear: 128 mm + 5 mm (128-133 mm)

The GT3 (both Mk1 and Mk 2) are covered in the Carrera Workshop Manuals.

Now the bad news... Porsche more than tripled the price of manuals on Jan 1. They were $478 for the set and I don't even want to guess what they are now! :rolleyes:

BTW, is the standard Turbo manual shift knob the same as the Carrera's? I thought it was a little different.

An improper kinematic toe setting on the 993/996 cars also will cause the driving behavior you described (changing steering direction with throttle application or lift).

FWIW, the 996 cars do not have a kinetic toe setting anymore.

As Loren indicated in the other thread, the male part that goes into the buckle is not available on its own. This is because it will not go through the ends after they have been sewn-in. You have to buy the complete seat belt which includes the bottom reel, the top and bottom hooks and the actual part you are talking about. Available in four colors for the GT3.

All-season tires are nothing but a compromise. They don't do anything good. If you are going to make the switch between winter and summer, you are better off getting dedicated tires. Porsche approves the Pirelli Winter W240 for both 17" and 18" sizes.

If I'm not mistaken, the factory fills these engines with Mobil 1 0W-40. This oil is good for temperatures below -30°F. Although you could, I don't see a reason to switch to 15W-50 during the winter. Seems to me, you want to use that more in warmer climates as it is more suitable for temperature above 80°F.

Oh, sorry. I misread that. Can you tell I'm losing it? :(
I forgot that the AWD cars have PSM. Therefore, no LSD. But, the GT2 does have LSD just like the GT3 does. Anyway, the G96.88 is the GT2 gearbox.

They all have limited slip. The G96.88 is the 2WD gearbox for the GT2. Note the lack of front shaft attachment and the presence of an oil cooler on the side.
