  1. What is an 'exhaust butterfly valve'? If your car doesn't have a PSE then the exhaust system is 100% passive (ie no valves). I think there is a valve of sorts in the intake system that makes the motor 'rattle' a bit when it's fired up. It closes when the fuel or air is purged. The recall you might be referring to could be the 'exhaust tips' one. Porsche recalled early VIN's due to a poor weld on the exhaust tip assembly. They were afraid it might cause the tip or tips to fall off and cause a problem to trailing cars. Have your dealer do a search in their computer system by your VIN to see what recalls have been done or should be done. Congratulations on your purchase. I own a 2005 997S as well and love it.
  2. I'd say if the cable doesn't mate well and your getting intermittant functionality a trip to your dealer service shop would the first stop I would make. Forget the TSB's (for now) and get Porsche NA to make you happy.
  3. I suspect NAVTEQ has up-to-date maps and POIs but Porsche chooses to update their NAV DVDs on their timeline . . . . . Not NAVTEQs and certainly not according to customer needs. NAVTEQ does mapping for lots of GPS devices (OEM & aftermarket) but Porsche has an exclusive license agreement w/ them that prohibits NAVTEQ from helping. :censored:  :censored:
  4. If you changed the filter as well you should be just fine. If you didn't (change the filter) then I think you did overfill and need to drain some out.
  5. It's too bad you didn't fully comprehend the complexity of simply adding a PCM. To be honest I didn't know there was a 'plain' PCM and a PCM for Bose. I suspect we'll see your PCM on eBay soon since the cost & trouble of enabling the required harness(s) seems prohibitive. I hate to see stories like this.
  6. Another photo link of GT3 install that might give you ideas if you don't want the Dension inside the cabin. http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/gt3-gt2...-installed.html
  7. Here's a link to a behind the glove box install . . . http://www.flickr.com/photos/33889996@N00/...57600783213574/
  8. Hi Mark, I too have an early 05 997S. I installed my Dension close to 2 years ago and used the CD changer power harness as the source to my Dension. My 997S didn't have the changer but the harness/connector was there. To be honest I don't recall (my brain cells need an unswitched power source as well) if it's switched or unswitched but that should be easy for you to determine by test. In my case my IPOD is always connected and it's never had a dead battery so I suspect the CD changer power might be unswitched. Good Luck w/ the install. Arnie
  9. Most Dension installs (mine included) are mounted in the enclosed area (where the NAV (C2 configuration) & other electronic boxes are) trunk area. A few folks have mounted the Dension behind the glove box but they are few and far between. In my case I 'Velcro'd' the actual IPOD right next to it. Being in the 'trunk' area it's always connected and charged and out of sight. Plenty of space in there plus it's easier to tap into the MOST cable and pick up the +/- 12v from the CD changer harness. I figured I had complete control of the IPOD from the PCM so why stick it in the cabin and go through the task of running a harness to it. It'll be 2 years (in May) since I installed it there and it loves it there. No problems what so ever. You might want to do a search on this forum and others (ie. 6speed, RennTeam, etc) for further info regarding the trunk and cabin Dension installs. I know you're dealing w/ a C4S so the NAV & Changer are in the open trunk area as opposed to being hidden behind the plastic trim. There most be plenty of Dension/C4 installs. Save yourself a lot of time and trouble and do the search and/or query on all the boards. ps. I would suspect that the shorter the fiber optic cables are, the less problematic, so avoiding longer cables should be paramount.
  10. Here's another pic of the NAV & CD Changer inside a C4. I suspect the wiring is routed behind the carpet and trim.
  11. I'm told there is a grommet for a wire harness that passes thru the bulkhead to the cabin behind the dash. I believe it was some where behind the glove box but I don't recall. You might want to do a search, either in this forum or the others (ie. 6speed, RennTeam, etc) under 'IPOD' or 'Dension' since those are the devices that require that sort of wiring addition. Happy Searching!
  12. For sure go to a dealership sales lot (that has a C4S on it) w/ note pad, flashlight and a little mirror in hand. You might be able to see the information labels and gather the data you need to confirm your parts list.
  13. JRagan, Have you had an opportunity to look at a factory installed NAV & CD Changer in a C4S 997.1? You might just want visit your dealership and see if there is one on the sales lot or in for service. It might shed more light and certainly give you a 'visual' of what the finished job should look like. Good Luck! ps. I think it's already been discussed but I'm sure the fiber optic cable(s) as well as the power harness(s) are longer due to the mounting location.
  14. Having just installed the same update kit here in the US I can try to help some. 1. If you press 'Main' & 'Trip' simultaneously you'll get to the device/software screens. If your system Level is at 3.0 I suspect the updates were installed properly. What makes you think you have to 're-install' the updates? BTW: There is a defined sequence of install according to the TSB. 2. If you 'contribute' to RennTech you'll have access to all the TSB's in PDF format. You can't print them but you can download them to your PC and view them. FYI: I have the TSB for this update in printable PDF format if you need one. Just PM me and provide your email address. 3. If you press the 'NAV' button and then the 'SET' button you can do a factory restore. That should clear any 'artifacts' from cache or system memory. Reloading the NAV DVD also helps restore things. and finally Not knowing what model year your C2 is, the level of your PCM hardware/software, if you have a Bose Amp and if so, what level s/w is present it's hard to determine if you're good to go. There are a couple of knowledgeable guys in this forum that most likely will pipe in w/ additional help and/or suggestions. Good Luck! :renntech:  :renntech:
  15. 'Main' & 'Trip'. Push or turn the lower right hand knob (PCM selection knob) to either change the device or query for device detail (ie. level).
  16. Marco, From your screen shots you have the initial release of PCM hardware (no phone features) and PCM software (04035). Your Bose Amp at one time must have been replaced since it has 17500 firmware (not 16400). You should be able to confirm this from your service and/or warranty records from Porsche NA. Don't know what your VIN is but I suspect it's a rather low build number. All that said you should be able to go to Version Level 3.0 without problems. At least I did once I reached the point you're at now. Arnie
  17. Might not be under warranty . . . . It's a European location and they have different warranty terms then we have in the US.
  18. I don't believe there is anything weird or wrong concerning the CD Changer PCM screen. Your PCM is expecting to see a 'Becker CD Changer' (ie. Target = C38/3003) and finds a Dension GW500 (Actual = C32/2702). If the Dension 500 works fine and the PCM screen provides the proper play info (ie. artist & track info) then whats the problem?
  19. If I recall the PIWIS cost over $10K and then you have to subscribe to all of it's software updates. You'll find that although it's sold by Porsche I'd be surprised if any DIY'rs have one. Some independent shops have them but they too are few and far between. Your dealer's service shop might just as a 'courtesy' run through your PCM set up parameters and null out the triangle. I suspect it's posting the 'triangle' due to the fact that it encounters an unrecognizable Bose amp (ie. 17500 rather than 16400). It might have to do w/ the fact that your system software is at 1.0 and the 17500 amp I believe applies to 2.1 and up. It appears that it's functioning just fine . . . I suspect you get audio on all sources (ie. radio, CD, NAV, etc). Get chummy w/ you service adviser and have them look at it. It shouldn't take them more than 15 to 20 minutes.
  20. Good to hear that it was just the DVD version. This is another example of the chaos and confusion Porsche has designed into the PCM 2.1. I wonder if Porsche does this intentionally or do they just lack the ability to test and document the progression of their product. In any event I'm sure you're glad it was just an incorrect disc and not a defective PCM unit ($$$$$).
  21. Yes.... I have an '08 C2 with the sport chrono package plus and was able to activate DRL's through the PCM. Also, I was able to activate the automatic door locking system. Great that Porsche put this in our hands. Harvey in Md My '05 C2S is also set up the same way.
  22. I used the following procedure to wire my V1 up. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...lentine+install It's written very well with great photos to aid you along. Good Luck!
  23. Here's a pic (not too good due to flash glare) of the PCM panel. It is the first issue (I believe identified as Standard or Initial) for the 997. My 997 is #337 of the production line. It was a US 'Launch Car' and hence it's had some early build equipment. Most have been changed out by recall. You quickly notice it has no phone features (ie. SOS button, SIM slot, etc) Most early 997 PCM's were replaced due to defects (ie. stuck disc, etc), dealer goodwill and/or warranty upgrades. I never bothered since it performed just fine. Believe it or not I try to follow the old adage . . . If it ain't broke, don't fix it. The actual NAVTEQ DVD is marked 08/2007. I suspect the actual mapping data from NAVTEQ is from 2006. The actual Porsche Kit identifies it as 'Model Year 2008 Update'. Thats a bit of marketing B.S. If we could buy direct from NAVTEQ I'm sure we get current mapping and it would cost a lot less. Porsche has a deal w/ NAVTEQ to prevent this from ever happening so we're stuck w/ the slow process Porsche uses to release product updates.
  24. UP-DATE . . . . PCM & NAV SUCCESSFULLY UPDATED TO 'MY 08 NAVIGATION UPDATE' (PORSCHE KIT 997 044 901 51) Just completed the PCM and NAV software updates to enable use of the Porsche NAVTEQ MAP DVD (08/2007). It went according to plan and the Installation & Conversion Instructions. I already attached PCM screen shots for 1.0 Software Version in an earlier post. Here's the screen shots for 2.1 & 3.0. 2.1 Software Versions 3.0 Software Versions Just remember one thing. If you have Level 1.0 software version (ie. Initial or Standard Release) and your Bose Amplifier software is lower than version 17500 you'll most likely need to replace the Bose Amp w/ a later version. I hopes this helps anyone w/ an early build 997 that plans to update or replace there NAVTEQ mapping DVD.
  25. Direct from the Owner's Manual Further individual light functions (e.g. daytime driving lights) are available in vehicles with the Sport Chrono package. Please observe the chapter “Individual Memory” in the separate PCM operating instructions.
