  1. I have a couple of black stains on my seats, It looks as if the red dye in the leather has rubbed off exposing the dark leather underneath. My question is: does anyone know If it is possible to touch up these spots? If so, what could I use do to do it? Red shoe polish or something? thanks.
  2. rev matching is tapping the gas to bring up the rpms then down shift, by tapping the gas first it puts less work on the clutch .
  3. I purchased a German front license plate and standart licnse plate frame from EuropeanPlates.com, However I dont see how the plastic frame mounts into the two square holes on the front bumper of my 99' Boxster. Is there screw holes in the bumber or do I need some other parts? What type of screws do I need? thanks.
  4. Some interesting info that I found on the web, Has anyone tried this? Does it work? -------------------------------------------------------------------- The AC Climatronic unit is actually manufactured by Audi. There is some sort of serial data stream (not CAN) that allows the AC unit to display engine parameters. This works on 1997-2000 boxsters. To switch from F to C: Hold down the recirculating button then push both the temperature + - buttons. To access diagnostics: Hold down the Recirculating & Air up buttons for 5 seconds. The + - buttons go up and down through the list of "c" codes. The center vent button switches the left display between the "c" code and its actual value. Press the Auto button to exit. I have yet to verify all these, this info was copied from wonderful people on PPBB! Here is a list of what can be seen: 0c - ERL 1c - Oil Temp? 2c - Inside temp. Sensor mounted in the aspirator assembly at the side of the dash. 3c - Outside temp. Sensor located inside the air inlet of the A/C unit. 4c - Outside temp. Sensor located in front grill of the radiator. The data is fed to the Climatronic from the instrument cluster. When not moving, the instrument cluster OBC temp display retains it's last setting until moving. This is to prevent heat emanating from the radiator affecting the temperature sensor. The A/C unit uses the lower of the two outside air temp values in determining fresh-air temp. 5c - Outside temp. (matches with OBC outside temp display) 6c - Coolant temp. 7c - Footwell discharge temp. 8c - Sun sensor (dash top) 9c - Sun sensor. 10c - Passenger compartment fan speed. 11c - Passenger compartment fan voltage. 12c - Temperature mix Flap command 1=COLD, 100=HOT 13c - Temperature mix Flap position 14c - Central Flap command 15c - Central Flap position 16c - Footwell/Defrost Flap command 17c - Footwell/Defrost Flap position 18c - Recirculation Valve command 1=OFF, 100=RECIRC 19c - Recirculation Valve position (feedback) 20c - Vehicle speed in kph, updating only once per second. (real speed, not speed+safety margin as in the speedometer) 21c - Engine RPM in hundreds. This too only updates once per second. 22c - ? 23c - ? 24c - Sun sensor, exterior lights switch & panel lights control (term. 58 & 58d voltage) - used for A/C panel display illum. 25c - ? 26c - ? 27c - ? 28c - Fan speed? 29c - ? 30c - Engine run time in seconds (255 max.)(=0xff) 31c - Timing counter 32c - Displays test 33c - Software version? Mine states 3.4 34c - ? 35c - Outside temp. from inlet sensor (filtered?) 36c - temp?
  5. I called my local porsche dealer and asked about it, they said that it sounds like the a LoJack unit - this would explain the battery backup. You are absolutly right, You would think they would try put it in a different place instead of behind the radio. They guy I bought the car from never mentioned a LoJack being installed, I guess I should call him and ask about it. Thanks for the help folks.
  6. No this has nothing to do with chickens, Nice try. The grey box is a rechargable battery pack that is wired to the black box, the black box does not have any useful information on it. It has some numbers and a FCC warning label about freqency interference, there isnt any other useful information. The battery has just normal battery warning info on it and states that it is a rechargable battery pack. Everything was bundled together with velcro and stuck back behind the radio area, I had to pull it out to run some wires. I was thinking that someone might know what a LoJack unit or the Factory porsche alarm system box looks like and could tell me if this looks like one of them. thanks.
  7. The telephone power cord was not part of the assembly, It was just hanging out and got into the picture.
  8. I just bought the car about 3 weeks ago 1999 boxster and was putting in a XM sat system, when I removed the panels around the radio I found these unmarked boxes? One is a rechargable battery the other is just a black box with what appears to be some sort of antenna hookup and a FCC warning label? I figure its one of two things 1.Car Alarm system or 2. LoJack? They dont look factory so I was wondering of someone could tell me what they are?
  9. I have a 1999 boxster with Red leather interior and red carpet, The carpet has faded to a light red almost pink in some areas. I would like to replace the carpet but dont know if I can just replace it with regular red "cutt pile" automotive carpet or do I have to find carpet that is molded to fit the interior?? I have searched the web for places that carry replacement carpet for the boxster but could not find any. Thanks, Brett Atlanta, Georgia
  10. Yes, they were not much help. However I sat down this weekend and removed the faceplate, cleaned the metal leads and reattached being sure that it was attached correctly. I shut the face plate and reopend it several times to make sure that it had good contact where the gold electrical tabs are located. After that the CD player started working, It does flake out sometimes but it seems ok as long as I carefully close the faceplate with both hands. I think I am going to replace the whole system with an aftermarket rig, I will keep all of the OEM stuff in case I ever sell the care and want to make it stock again. thanks.
  11. I just bought a 1999 boxster (used) a few weeks ago, Just tried to play a CD in the CD player. I can insert the CD just fine but it does not spin up the disk or scan it to know that it is there. I tried a couple of different CD's with the same result. Could it be dirty or is there something I can do? Thanks.
