  1. Ok some background and maybe some pointers - Ie Am I OK to still drive. here is the background -- Had the car three years (996 1999) No issues at all - done 25K miles had it serviced on the nail - Actually just had a minor service 400 miles ago .. Drove the car yesterday did few hundred miles and drove to work today -- Came home Midday .. (left card outside - It has rained heavily) So 6 hours after driving ie Car is cold - Wife goes to pick up daughter .. Comes home and says that light (the CEL) flashed 5x and then went solid -- Then she drove a little further and it flashed and went solid - Clearly I said if it flashed then YOU should not drive - Anyhow the journey was about a mile so I dont see a huge problem - Plus the light was Solid. Didnt continue to flash. My symptoms are Solid CEL Rough Idle So I pulled the wiring out of the MAF and disconnected the battery for 1 Min - Reconnected everything - Ran the car - No CEL everything seems fine. It runs just the same as it ever did - Nice and smooth - Power seems there - Engine doesnt feel lumpy like its throw a cylinder or anything really serious Question -- Are the codes still there if I took it to a dealer .. Or its all gone as as Cleared it down . Should I suspect MAF and or Coilpacks (ie car is now getting on a bit) Final question - OK to continue to drive like this ? Temps and oil pressures seem just the same as always . The CEL is only related to Engine Air and fuel mix intake issues - Thats correct isnt it ? - I know this question has been asked a few times - but I have been confused on the CEL light - Maybe it was dirt on the MAF or water in a coilpack . Is there any way to visually tell >? Advice much appreciated . all the best and thanks.
  2. I have this strange sound - A vibration noise - the sort of sound you would get when the exhaust blows - Its quite loud and coming from the back end -- its not low pitch sort of a metalic rattle sound .. However . I 1. Only get it in gear and when I floor the car - 2. It lasts just for about a second or two until the car starts to move say past 20mph 3 It seems to come more from the right hand side read I dont get the rattle when I rev it in neutral nothing - - I only happens from stationary when I floor it I fitted a K&N filter just after christmas but didnt notice any rattle - I checked it today and nothing is loose any suggestions welcome 1. Heat exchanger ? - If so how come it only makes a noise in drive and when its floored 2. Transmissions ? Suggestions welcome - Car is a 00 C2 996 CABRIOLET
  3. I was wondering if there was a "simple" route to follow in order to drag a reversing camera cable from the rear bumper into the dash of the car to pop out where the stereo is located. .. Porsche 996 C2 Some bright ideas would be most helpful.. thanks
  4. firstly I have a 1999 C2 996 Cab. I just went through the procedure to move the aircon control down into the lower area to remove the CDR220 and give me a 2 DIN space. Its perfect I now have a 2DIN stereo in there (Looks similar to the AVIC installs seen elsewhere) However I have made a plate that covers the stereo and there is a large black plastic space between the top of the stereo to the bottom of the air vents. Thats messy I though I bet Porsche would not normally design that gap. And I was right because when I looked closely at the AVIC install on the forum I can see that there is a cup holder of exactly the same dimension as to go between the 2DIN stereo and the top of the Air vents. Great I thought I will go and buy one - Luckily for me I got on on ebay and it arrived. But guess what it doesnt fit . Because silly me in 2002 Porche changed the design ever so slightly . Apparently they changed the Airvents themselves. The "throat" part that the airvents connect into and I guess maybe also the horse shoe. But Im not certain if thats all was changes Apparently you can change these parts to accomodate the cup holder - I dont actually want the cup holder I just want to cover up the ugly black space. So Im hoping here that a genius " and you would be one" can tell me the partcodes I need to go and purchase from Porsche so that I can install the indash cup holder into the 1999 C2 Thanks
  5. Firstly thanks for all the photos and the information on how to physically install - I just did the install and it was very simple especially considering that the ISO connect was a direct plug into the connector in My European car - I only had to connect one wire literally. I will get aroung to hiding the GPS under the alarm cover and also connecting the Mic in the dash in the near future. As an aside I too have made some Jpeg images for the background of the unit - However looking at your images frankly yours seem much better - I used some from the Porsche website - But I was impressed with the picture you have selected. I wonder if you would consider posting them for download ? thanks
  6. I need some advice on how to remove the instrument cluster - basically I have installed a new Car kit in the vehicle and there is a Microphone - I would like to be able to put the microphone in the correct position in the dash (ie behind the microphone grill near the steering wheel) I can remove the external cover and my Microphone will fit however I have no way of pulling the cable through - It seems to be sealed somehow - Is there any way to get to the back ? - Any ideas on what to remove as I have looked for hours and cannot see anything obvious In addition I would also like to put the GPS sensor somewhere like where the alarm LED light is up front near the windscreen but again I cannot see any way to feed cables through so that they will go to the back of the head unit- albeit the cover comes off easily and I can see the sensor. I realise its a cosmetic thing but I really dont want trailing cables on the dash -- Thanks Car is 1999 C2 996 Cab (Uk spec) thanks for any help ..
  7. Super - I just wondered that after you moved the climate control down and removed the Becker radio - How then did you mechanically secure the Pioneer 2Din unit into position
  8. I have a 911 (996) 1999 C2 Model (UK) , (Im moving the aircon control down and taking out the CDR-22 CD Player to give me a 2 Din slot. - Its the old type wiring ie not MOST The navigation requires all the usual ISO connections but in addition the following items 1. Vehicle speed pulse - I assume this is the GAL wire ? - If so where is it? 2. Detection of lighting switched on - I assume +12 live when lights are on 3. Handbrake +12v side - can I get to the handbrake + side without opening up the handbrake ? 4. Reverse light (or a line that goes live when reverse is selected) - hopefully at the front of the car I wonder if someone can help me identify where these wires may be at the "head" end of the vehicle if you follow - ie I dont fancy pulling a wire all the way from the back of the car for the reversing light and I figure that they must also be connectors at the front Thanks and much appreciated if anyone knows about these wires and their colours . Just to add - Not wasting peoples time I found an excellent post by Loren that answers the GAL and the reverse question - Still looking for the handbrake live and a suitable lights wire .. thanks
  9. Thanks for the info - I thought my car year and model showed in the profile but its a 911 (996) year 1999
  10. Nice - But here is a stupid question -- If you pop the spoiler up (under 75 mph) it will go up what happens when your speed drops to below 30 (or maybe 35) does it just go back down again - ? ie Its not possible to see back of car when driving.. I had the impression that when you use the foot switch to pop up the spoiler it just comes down again when you slow down .. As your switch is just in effect a switch moved from one place to another will it still behave the same ?> thanks
  11. Thanks for that - Obvious stupid question .. Which is the alarm wire as I dont see that indicated in the manual .. thanks
  12. I have read on the forum that if you remove the CDR-220 Becker system and fit another system then when you lock the door the Alarm will cause a Beep --A little like leaving a door open The thought is that there is a wire in the Becker unit that tells the alarm that its still there - And if its not then the alarm causes the beep - Ie I have been stolen. Does anyone know if this is actually the case - Ie when I remove the Becker and replace it will I have an annoying horn beep every time I press the button and lock and arm the car .. thanks
  13. I just pulled the Air condition control out of my 911 (996) its a 1999 model -- I removed it because I was looking at how easy it would be to remove the Becker CDR-220 and the Air con control to fit a 2-DIN sat Nav system -- There is a plug behing the Air cont panel - Its blue, yellow and green and its not connected to anything - Comes off the wiring loom .. Anyone know what its there for ? thanks
