  1. He claims there is oil leaking from both areas after an inspection underneath my car. 20 hrs was a bit excessive in my opinion as well. Are you stating that a competent mechanic should realistically be able to do all that work(AOS, oil, coolant, RMS etc) and put the engine back together in half of that time? If so I have to believe that they are being deceptive and charging me more than what the dealer would charge in this case.
  2. I noticed a few drops of oil in the bottom of my garage and no puffs of smoke upon drive. So I took my car into a local trusted indie and it looks like I got the bad news. They claim my AOS needs replacement and the RMS or IMS seal/o ring needs replacement. My car is 996 C4S tiptronic w 78k miles and he claims it will be roughly 20 hrs of Labor or roughly $3k w parts. He claims he has to drop the tranny and engine being a tip . It looks like living w it may not be an option. I've read some forum posts and it seems like this job can all be done at once for $2k w parts. Thoughts?? Or is this legit? Thanks peeps!
