  1. Yes, only one fog lamp lens is operational in the US. For the reasons outlined above.

And for your temperature fluctuations, when was the last time you reached in your radiator intakes and cleaned out all of the crap that is probably in there blocking radiators?

Chances are your radiators are blocked with road debris. You can clean out some of the stuff by reaching in there and cleaning it out, but to do it correctly, one has to pull of the front bumper covers and peel apart the air-conditioner condenser from the radiator and clean out the fuzz and dirt that gets stuck in there. I have seen 15 degree variants in coolant temp because of blocked radiators.

Hmmmm - I am shipping my Boxster to the UK - how can you switch which fog light works?

  2. I searched the forums but couldn't find anything on this one...

Yesterday I noticed that when I initiate the left turn signal, the stalk has a weird 'rubbery' feel (no nice click) - pushing the stalk the other way for the right signal feels fine. Also, for either direction, the stalk does not cancel itself when you turn the wheel like it used to.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,

    Bob

  3. Replace the switch. Part number 996 613 112 01. Then report back.

I have the same issue, it slowly got worse and worse until the brake light stopped coming on all together.. Being the lazy guy that I am I found a way around it..

Turn off the car, then put the key into the power on position (right before you start it again).. in this mode ALL the lights come on in the dash including the brake light.. The computer thinks all is well and lets you raise or lower the top.. (brake must be up)

Ill get around to replacing it sooner or later, but as I said im lazy ;)

I have the same situation, but when I try the workaround all the lights do indeed come on, but I still can't put the top down?

I know I need to replace the handbrake switch, but am wondering why the workaround doesn't 'work' for me? :-)

  4. Hi All,

I have the same issue with the soft top not being able to be lowered - when top button pressed nothing happens.

I've read the appropriate posts and will try all the suggestions.

This happened after I took the hard top off for the summer - I could put the top up no problem, but a few days later when the weather (in Michigan!) finally got warmish, I could not put the top down.

Looking at the other posts it seems that this happens a lot! Is there something with using a hard top that affects the soft top switch?

    Just curious?

no. the car doesn't really know if the hardtop is on or if the top is just down.

it's probably your handbrake dash light. when you engage the handbrake, does the corresponding dash light go on? if not, the top won't work. sometimes you can move the handbrake thru its range of motion (slowly or quickly - whatever works) to see if you can get the light to come on. if that is your issue, you need to repair/replace the handbrake microswitch, which isn't too hard at all.

it could also be the top latch microswitch - you can test it by unlatching the top to see if the windows drop a few inches. if so, the microswitch is fine. (note: your windows need to be fully up to test this. if the windows are already down a little, there would be no need for them to drop.)

otherwise, it could be the top relay (probably not) or a mechanical problem (unlikely if your top was working before).

Ok, found the time to do some investigation - it's the handbrake switch all right. I tried your trick of moving the handbrake slowly, and that worked - light comes on intermittently.

You mention that it "isn't too hard at all" to fix this - I pushed the seat forward and managed to get the plastic panel off on the LHS of the handbrake, but can't really see what's going on in there - what else needs to come off? Any other tips on getting to this switch?

  6. Order 2 buckles from the dealer for $71 each, install them yourself in an hour. Then take the car to an independent Porsche shop and ask them the reset the computer. They may charge you 1/2 hour or come equipped with a case of cold beer on a Friday afternoon.... LOL If the light comes on again, then you need to order an under seat wiring harness modification. I do not have the part # for the harness nor have any idea how difficult it is to install but I have researched this issue from multiple sources and all agree.

I was fortunate enough to replace the buckles and reset the code. The light has not been back since. Mine is early 99 non-S. Good luck!

    Hi,

I have a 98 boxster with the child seat activation bar installed. My airbag light is on, using durametric I get code 45 (driver's side). Can you tell me what is involved with replacing the buckles? Just wondering how big a job this is.
