  1. Can anyone post the part numbers for the 996 Silver brake calipers that came on the Carrera 4, I want to put these on my 996 Targa.
  2. I need some help, I am trying to find the best price for the 996 Carrera 5 spoke in High Gloss Finish. These are the exact same wheels that came the 2004 Carrera 40th anniversary model. The two part numbers when entered into a dealer are about $1400 difference, yet they both show they are for a complete set of Carrera high gloss wheels. Here are the part numbers: Carrera High Gloss wheels / no tires - 000 044 602 05 : Carrera High Gloss wheels / no tires - 000 044 601 07 I need someone to confirm which is the correct part number, thanks
  3. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...st&p=125712 Mudman, thanks the light stays on and there are no message. What do you mean by trailer lights? Do you the rear brake light ot the third brake light?
  4. This light just came ( ! ) when I started the car this afternoon. Any ideas? Thanks everyone!
  5. Bill - I never hear when in ip mode, bu i do get the noise when in normal auto mode. I have noticed this on and off for about a year.
  6. Loren do you have the part number for the new filter wrench or know the size hex needed to remove the filter. Loren, I have that oil filter wrench for the 996 and others, but the new design for the 2009 facelift 997's have a larger oil filter housing and also the hex mold on it, like the ones you find on BMW's the 996 oil filter wrench will not fit.
  7. that wont work for a 2009 997! the oil filter is much larger and has a hex mold on it like seen on bmw's
  8. Loren do you have the part number for the new filter wrench or know the size hex needed to remove the filter.
  9. Anyone know if Porsche sells the oil filter wrench, that is required to remove the plastic oil filter cover now located in the engine bay? I would like to know if it came in the aluminum metal as did the 996 ones that they sold at the dealer.
  10. Loren, when I change my oil I always put 10 quarts. I was told by a Porsche tech that they always put 10. But after reading some posts here some people have been only puting 9 quarts. How many is the correct?
  11. I have a 2003 Cayenne S tiptronic, when braking hard from about 50mph I get a sound noise like thud coming from the trans i believe. It has about 66K miles on it and never had any problem with the car at all. Or is this normal when the car is down shifting hard during deceleration?
  12. There is no oil tank on a 996. Check the coolant tank for cracks, check the under engine hoses, and check the water pump. Sorry Loren, the oil case ? I checked the water pump/ coolant tank / and hoses in and around the bottom of the motor. The heavy leak is coming right in the middle where the rear sway bar is , but in the middle. Are there any hoses in thar area? I wont be able to get the car on a lift until next week.
  13. I think mine deepened a little after it was broken in - but htat was only about 500 miles. definitely gets louder.... and is louder in warm weather vs the cold.... wait until you break it in a little... !! I have 60,000 miles on it, it is on a 2002 996 Targa and it seems not to be as loud as when I first got it. Do you think I should purchase a new one? I also heard that the welds break inside and you get rattling noises. I havent got any noises, but can tell that it has gotten less loud. Last, this may be a dumb question, how can i make sure the exhause is on loud all the time?
  14. I am getting a large amount of water and coolant leaking right behind the oil tank, any suggestions? Are there any hoses there that might need to be replaced?
  15. Does anyone know if the PSE gets louder as more miles are build up on the system or does it get less loud. I have the PSE on my Targa and have checked that it is the correct one for the 02's and up model years and it seems to be not as loud under full throttle as when it was new some 60k miles ago. Anyone else feel their PSE has became less loud as more miles have been driven? Are there any headers out there that would make it louder while keeping the PSE exhaust note?
  16. Can anyone on the board help with this?. I wanted to get your advice as to what year Jay Sebrings black Porsche 911 or 912 might be? I have done extensive research online and read books about him and the Sharon Tate murder case. The only thing they mention about Sebrings Porsche in various books is that it was a black Porsche and was loud for its time and the year depending on books is 1966/1967? I found Jays Hair products link and this is the only picture you can find of the car this close. I noticed that during 1965-1969 some 911 and 912's have a "large wide chrome ring around the front headlights". Was this an option back then? Or did both the 911 and 912 receive this large chrome ring around its headlights. This is the only way I think I can narrow down the year of his car , but im still puzzled as to wether it was a 911 model or 912 model. Thanks if you can help. ................ So my questions are if anyone happens to know anything about Jay Sebring the murder victim by the manson family. 1. Year and model of the back Porsche on the link posted below? HERE IS THE LINK : http://www.sebringintl.com/sebring's_targa.htm
  17. I wanted to know if it was ok to mix the green coolant with the new pink one that Porsche has been using. Would I need to flush out the green coolant before using the pink coolant. I ask because I have the green coolant still in a 99' 996 and very low, all I have is the new pin coolant.
  18. Thanks Loren! I just ordered from GERT, and he game a fantastic deal on the X74!
  19. Anyone know how many miles until the Fuel fiilter and Fuel pump needs to be replaced on 2002 996's ?
  20. Thanks Loren! but if you go to this website they have that part number listed retails as being trans retrofit kit at $1356, the price does not seem right? please take a look at the link and let me know what you think. http://www.trademotion.com/partlocator/ind...p;siteid=214854 just enter part number and they give you price, do people buy from Gert because he has the best prices or is because its hard to get in the US? Stuttgart performance has it for $2650, is that a pretty ggod price?
  21. Can anyone give me the original part number for the 996 X74 sport suspension kit! I was given this number, but my dealer said it was not a correct number-000-044-500-34 . Need the coorect part number for the X74 kit. Thanks
  22. Hello there! I just jacked the car up front on both left and right sides. I was able to move both front wheels easily from left to right, but not from 12 to 6 positions. While doing this it did make a slight metal sound and the steering wheel shifted a good amount. So my question now is that since both front wheels moved from left to right and did make some noise, does this pretty much indicate that I need new wheel bearings? Also if the wheel bearings were good would is still be able to move the wheels from left to right while the car is jacked up on one side? Thanks
  23. Can anyone help, I get a wierd gringing sound on a 02 996 when turning left or right while giving it throttle. This grinding sound even somtimes occurs at speeds of 65mph while going in a straight line. I have checked everything up front and it seems to find. I just need some help on what tests or how I can check if it is the wheel bearings are not. Any DIY post, if so was not able to find them. Thanks Board members
  24. Loren could you help! I tried to search the board, but cant find any info on how to check the wheel bearings on a 2002 996 targa? Is there any DIY that you can give me the link. My dealer wants $350 to just look at it, I have checked every bold , front suspension, wheels, brakes and everything seems to be find. This grinding noise only occurs when turning left and right and giving medium to hard throttle. So I am guessing that it is a wheel bearing. I also wanted to know how long the stock 996 suspension last in terms of milelage. And would it be safe to tryand replace the wheel bearings your self? Thanks
