  1. This turned out to be that the shop that changed my oil separator were complete retards. I started a Beureau of Automotive Repair complaint against them... Had it done again by "European Sports Car Garage" in sacramento. They did a good job, smoke gone!
  2. I am having an odd ticking noise whenever the car is at operating temperature. I saw in some forums that this can be the EGR valve. The sound does get faster as I accelerate. It is very loud and annoying. I tried unplugging each of the two sensors on the driver side of the engine (near the intake manifold). The one clamped to the side of the manifold had absolutely no effect, the one underneath the manifold (seems to be plugged into some sort of filter) seemed to actually make the sound quite a bit more quiet! But even with the sensor underneat the manifold unplugged, there is still a noticeable clicking sound. Can someone please help me fix this? I am running out of ideas... Btw, the clicking is coming from the passenger side of the engine. There is no clicking at all from the driver side.
  3. Then how come in every posting about the issue somebody says that it is most likely a cylinder sleeve?
  4. I am having the same exact issue, looks like alot of other people are. Hoping someone posts to me what they did about fixing it.
  5. I am having the same problem, search the forums for "White Smoke" From vvortex3. Let me know if you find the cause. In my case the smoke is coming from inside of the exhaust pipe, not outside or near it. But the same exact symptom as you.
  6. Long long ago, in an auto far far from my mind, I vaguely remember a blown head gasket. Water in the oil appeared as dirty "mayonaise" (cream colored and thick goo) on the inside of the oil filler cap and on the upper reaches of the dip stick. You may or may not know that mayonaise is an emulsion of water and oil (egg yolk). The oil looks normal, the water is not overflowing or bubbling up violently if I remove the water cap. I warmed the car up to operating temperature. I drove it pretty hard for about 5 minutes...no smoke at all, stopped...waited 5-10 minutes, drove it again but kept a sustained higher rev. Nothing...stopped, floored it...Big puff of white looking smoke in the rearview, I heard a small knocking sound twice...just a puff, not constant. Then the car continued to release lesser amounts of smoke the remainder of the way back to my garage. Stopped the car, waited 3 minutes or so...started it again, big puff of thick white smoke out of the tail pipe which eventually burned out and then the car ran fine. No bubbles in the water, oil still looks normal. I am stumped. Also note that this is definately oil smoke, not water smoke. I keep thinking it is one or the other but it smells nothing like water smoke.
  7. I have a 2000 Boxster 2.7 It is having white smoke at higher rpms, general consensus has been to just replace the motor (big surprise). What is the difference between the boxster 3.2 and 3.4 motors? If I chose to keep the stock motor, how would I go about finding one without sleeve issues?
  8. Well when the car reaches operating temperature, and I do the same thing, I get enough white smoke to fill an intersection. But below 4.5k rpm I can drive the car...freeway even with no smoke. What if i just change the block? Which year block is less prone to issues like this, and compatible with the rest of my motor?
  9. ok so I'm going to pull the motor. Where can I find a boxster 2.7 block for a good price? Or if that's not available how can I avoid paying 6k for another motor? I see on ebay they list them at 4k but they dont sell at that so I'd think i could get it for less.
  10. 2000 Boxster 2.7L 85k Mi. I cleaned out all of my intake parts, changed oil separator, MAF was recently changed. After reassembling everything I started the car and revved the engine up to redline while it was cold. I got a steady drip of water out of the tailpipe, drips of water coming out of the joint where the catalytic converter connects to the rest of the exhaust. Steam coming out of the driver side catalytic converter. I am now thinking that this is not an oil issue, but a water issue. There is no noticeable drip or steam below 4.5k rpm or so. I am pretty sure that when the car reaches operating temperature, these drips turn into the massive amounts of steam I have been witnessing. How can this be repaired? Common causes? I am thinking head gasket.
  11. I seriously appreciate your help. Thanks much for the picture! The only other line that im not 100% sure of is the sensor that connects to the intake on the driver side (The electric one with the 2 vacuum hoses. Does one of those vacuum hoses go to the throttle control thingy? The upper vacuum hose or the lower?
  12. 2000 Boxster 2.7 There is a resevoir near the driver side of the engine that says "Only Hydraulicoil" it has a hose that is about 8" long and 1/4" thick. Where does that hose connect to? I believe this is the power steering
  13. On labor day I removed and reinstalled the intake (manifold?) and basically all of the plastic parts on top of the engine. I did find oil in them and cleaned them out and reinstalled. What a pain in the ***. I also found that the mechanic that changed my oil separator had absolutely no clamp on the bottom of the separator where it connects to the engine. I have reinstalled most parts but am running into a couple problems where I should have marked things...hehe. There is a small line leading to a resevoir that says "hydraulic fluid only" or something. Where does that go? Also, there is a blue sensor on the driver-side manifold that connects to 2 vacuum hoses. I think I connected them properly, but where are they supposed to go (before I try to actually start the car) so I can double check. There is absolutely no room to work in this car... Anyone else ever try removing the passenger side manifold? What were they thinking?
  14. 2000 Boster 2.7 85k/Mi Tiptronic I am getting white smoke at any rpm over about 4.5k. If i keep the car below 4.5k, I get no smoke at all. Recently Replaced: MAF Air/Oil Separator The smoke smells like oil smoke. I have read that this can be valve guides. Any suggestions? Right now I am thinking to: Remove engine, pull heads, have machine shop fix valve guides and do their magic on the heads. Replace head gasket and reinstall. I really am unsure what the problem is. When I got a quote from a porsche mechanic I was told that he would basically do what I just said. Ideas? Anything else I should do while it's out?
