  1. *** Thanks Loren. My car is a 1999 US C2 coupe. 1. Thanks for being specific in your directions. Should be straighforward in replacing the dead flasher. 2. Will find the hot going to the 3rd brake lights (pretty sure it is blk/or) off the switch. Hope it is easy to reach the switch if it is physically "on" the brake pedal or brake pedal arm. Alex San Mateo, CA
  2. 1. Need to replace non-functioning turn signal flasher - where is it located?? 2. Want to splice a flasher device into the 3rd brake light circuit so both the one on the wing and the one inset in the body will flash - therefore, is there an easily accessible spot to splice in?? I imagine it would be toward the front of the car so it will work on both 3rd brake lights?? Thanks for any advice, hints... Alex
  3. The relay and halogen bulb I needed to install to keep my cruise control working with all LED brake lamps is mounted right to the back of , and wired within, the 3rd brake light assembly itself. An equivelent flasher can be purchased at autolumination.com for ~$5. While you're in there you might consider also wiring the otherwise useless rear fog light(s) into the brake light circuit to give an even more pronounced indication that the brakes are being used. ********* Sorry about a confusion caused by my terminology. What I am attempting to install is not the 3rd brake light relay or flasher unit. Instead, the unit I bought from Thompson-Automotive.com (above) is a device which is connected to the hot wire going to the 3rd brake lights. The power goes to the Thompson unit, which then makes the 3rd brake light flash three times, then come on steady, until the brake pedal is released. Very noticeable to those following me too closely. I have installed the same unit on my 2000 VW Bug, and it works perfectly - it is noticeable how people actually brake earlier when we slow down for a stop. The difference is that the Bug has the 3rd brake light in the trunk lid and the hot wire to the light is very accessible. On my 996, there isn't anyway for me to easily reach the hot wire to the 3rd brake lights. I was thinking maybe finding the hot wire to the 3rd brake light behind the fuse box??? Any ideas if this is the easiest way, assuming this works?? (and if I can find the color coded hot wire to the two 3rd brake lights)...Anyone have a wiring diagram with the color wire I need? TIA for ideas/opinions. Alex, 1999 996 C2
  4. Need easy access to wiring of 3rd brake light for installation of this brake light flasher: http://www.thompson-automotive.com/catalog...157/2549509.htm Tried to reach wiring by removing the 3rd brake light from its enclosure at the rear wing, but the fit is too tight to reach any of the wiring. Can I reach the power wire anywhere else in the car, where this flasher can be tucked away neatly? If this is possible, I can have the 3rd brake lights (one seen with wing down, and the other one which is visible with the wing up) flash 3 times, then come on steady. Maybe prevent a soccer mom w/cell phone from ramming my car. TIA for opinions/comments. Alex 1999 996
