  1. Loren, It's been 500 km since AOS replacement. The Dealer supposedly took great care in cleaning out all the oil from the intake, thus justifying the 5 hours to replace the AOS. Derek
  2. ARGH!! The new AOS didn't cure the misfires. My P0300 and P0301 are back along with a new P0302. I've cleared them for now. I am running rough on cold starts now, and that's when the misfires appear. After it runs a few minutes, there are no more P-codes but I can still feel the roughness and the occasional miss although no P-codes are registered. Guess I'll check the coil packs and replace plugs next (which the dealer supposedly done already). Any other other suggestions? And what plugs to use, Beru or Bosch? Derek
  3. I am done. Hooray. But the top won't close. Looks to be 3" short. Tried my best to pull it down but no go. Otherwise it looks great. No bunching up or anything. I'll give it another shot when I get home tonight. A big thanks to you Maurice and everyone on this forum. Great info here. This is my biggest DIY project yet. Derek
  4. John, I'm pointing to the little trim piece in the picture I put up on post #6. It goes on after you tighten the aluminum plate, and before you put on the foot long metal retainer for the weather strip. Hope this helps. Derek
  5. Thanks John. I am almost finished. Got everything done except I still need to tape down the rear, then hook up the electrical defroster. Derek
  6. Maurice: I took the top off last night. Tonight, I spent 2 hours just cleaning up the glue from the 2 sided tape. Man, that stuff sticks. Anyhow, I just wanted to point out that my original top and setup are slightly different from the description in Mike Focke's writeup. Specifically, the middle bar (2nd from the front) plastic cover does not have a metal clip holding it down. Instead, it simply snaps into place. I had a hell of a time removing it and managed to break off a small corner on the cover plate. No biggie as it'll still perform its intended function. At first I tried to install the new top by not removing this cover plate, but no go. Can't get the back done if the middle of the top is already secured to the cover plate. Perhaps mine is different because I have an inside liner, as I didn't see any mention of that in the instructions. Oh, also, the Robbins top doesn't attach at the 3rd rail from the front. It only attaches at the front, the middle cover plate, then at the very back. Question. Is it easier to do the very back first, then to the clamping rails, or vice versa? Hope to finish tomorrow night. Regards Derek
  7. John: I just took my old top off last night. I'm putting on the new on tonight. I took a picture of a corner piece. Is this the one you are referring to? Not sure if you can see how it is oriented in the photo. Derek
  8. Greg: I went to MCL. I've not tried Weissach before and was a bit skeptical. Thanks for the info and I'll probably give them a try next time. Can't be worst than mcl. Derek
  9. Maurice, Yes, I've read your thread regarding your MAF escapade and was sort of pondering replacing the AOS as a DIY just prior to it blowing up in my face. My P0300 P0301 started coming on last June, and I've been clearing them every now and then, as you had. I was going to replace the plugs and examine the coil packs but now I'll wait and see if the codes return or not. Anyhow, I took the car out today in an attempt to burn off whatever remaining oil that might have been left in the intake and combustion chamber :D It was great fun! I also followed pmpjuil's thread very closely, and yes, we are from the same city. I'm still waiting for the Robbins top to arrive and for the weather to get a bit warmer. While I was ordering the parts from Sunset Porsche, I couldn't resist their special on the rear speakers and got that as well. Thought I would do that together with the top. Best regards, Derek
  10. Hi Maruice, They're the only Porsche dealer in town. What can I say. AOS was $137. Add the 15 km flatbed tow, misc parts, labour, taxes, etc. It was just over $1000 before I could walk out the door. But I'm still smiling just because I'm back on the road, and hopefully, this solves my P0300 P0301 misfire as well. Now I'm looking forward to my Robbins top that's supposed to show up soon... Regards, Derek
  11. Maurice, Turns out to be the AOS. You are the man!! I'm glad it wasn't something more serious. However, it still cost a small fortune for the repair. At least I'm back on the road. Derek
  12. Took a quick look at the AOS. It is the newer version. Boxster is on a Flatbed back to Porsche Dealer service this morning ... Derek
  13. Maurice, Thanks for the somewhat uplifting diagnosis. I'm hoping it is as you suggest, but I'm not really holding my breath at this point. At any rate, I'll let the local dealer service it, as this is way over my head as a DIY project. I have neither the know how nor the time. Derek
  14. Just driving home after work tonight and a few blocks from my house, I hear a high pitched whine. Next thing I know, I'm engulfed in white smoke. Sigh ... I guess this makes the vandalized plastic window and the cylinder #1 misfire seem minor. I suppose I'll have to have it towed to the local Porsche Dealer for service. Bummer. Just out of warranty for 1 year now. P-car has never been raced. All dealer recommended scheduled servicing. RMS replaced by dealer. Just over 5 yrs and 80,000 km. Very disappointing, to say the least. Derek
  15. I've had P0300 P0301 intermittently for about 8 months now. Took it in to local Porsche dealer a couple of times but they couldn't find any problems. Now I just use my Durametric to reset to codes whenever they pop up. But I think they are getting more frequent Derek
  16. Derek: The updated slider part numbers are 986 561 669 03 (left side) and 986 561 670 03 (right side). (It seems Porsche has changed the versions of these sliders back and forth, so even though your parts bag may have the "03" version imprinted on it, the actual part may have the "02" part number and it will still be correct. Read this thread if you want the full story: http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...c=17537&hl= [posts #8, and 22 to 25]). The clamping rail part numbers are 986.561.559.01 and 986.561.560.01. If you lose any of the plastic pins, that part number is 986.561.597.00 (about $1.00 each). Also, remember those pesky, hard to find foam seals. Regards, Maurice. Thanks Maurice! I just ordered the Robbins glass top today, but they're out of stock on my dark gray colour for another couple of weeks. Can't wait to get going on this project. It's raining again here so I might have to resort to duct tape to keep dry. Derek
  17. Question: Does anyone have the part numbers for the Clamping Rails and the Sliders handy? Derek
  18. Sean, Thanks. I'm going to get off my butt and order the top soon. Hopefully, my project will go smooth as yours did. If not, I'll have to hunt you down for advice (being a fellow Vancouverite B) ) Derek
  19. Hi Sean, My plastic window was cut by vandals last week, so I'm looking to get the Robbins Window and proceed as you had done. Did you also hook up the power for the electric rear window defogger? Do you need a wiring harness for that? Derek
  20. I have exactly the same problem in cylinder #1. Computer went into limp mode and the CEL came on. Porsche dealer simply reset the CEL and told me go keep driving. A week later, the same thing happened. They reset the CEL again. Says there isn't much to do until it misfires on a more consistent basis. It's been a couple of days and no misfires since. Derek
  21. I'll take some time tonight and make some measurements on the headlight alignment. The manual says 1% grade. Also, after reviewing and comparing your photos and mine, I see that your cutoffs are much more pronounced than mine. I wonder if the bulbs are a different batch (from CQ) or if the Porsche headlight enclosures are slightly different. <_< Yes, mine are the 5000K bulbs just like 986Jim's. The original OSRAM and/or HELLA are 55W whereas these HID bulbs are only 35W, so there are no problems with overheating. Derek
  22. 986Jim, I just installed the same HID system you had put in. I noticed that the aim on the HID seems a bit lower than on the Halogen. Did you notice the same on yours? This just shows the colour difference Notice the height difference. The Halogen is aimed considerably higher and also the angled slant cutoff seems more prominent on the Halogen This is with both HIDs installed - the left and right both aimed at the lower point now.
  23. I've seen that post, but he's got the 996 with the horizontal button panels. I was hoping to keep my slanted button panels.
  24. Tool Pants: I recall you listed the required part numbers for the AC brackets and trim plate in another post, but I just can't seem to find them anymore. Also, has anyone put in the MY03 cupholders in place of the old cupholders? Derek
