  1. Thanks Beecher and White987s. However, I already have 14k on the fronts, and I've always changed all four tires at a time. I'm just not used to changing only one axle. Seems like the tires will forever "not be matched". I'm probably just nervous for no good reason. Thanks again.
  2. My 05 TTS cab has 14k miles and it's time to change the rear tires. The fronts are questionable, with 4/32 inside and 5.5/32 center tread remaining. I plan on purchasing Michelin PS which are the OEMs the car came with. The Porsche dealer believes I can continue to ride on the fronts another 5k+ miles, and I understand it is not unusual for the rears to provide only 50% of the mileage from the fronts, but I have some questions and would like some thoughts & suggestions: 1. If I replace just the rear axle, how negatively, if any, will the handling be affected; 2. Should I just replace all four tires for both safety and handling reasons, or try to max out tire wear from the fronts? Thanks in advance, Steve. :drive:
  3. I have a stock 2005 TTS which has 11k miles on it. Never had any trouble at all with the car, and it uses a quart about every 1,000 miles. I believe the usage is due in part to the turbo oil cooling system utilized. The consumption was very un-nerving at first, but I've since gotten past it...since I'm getting many more smiles per mile.
  4. I have a 2005 996 TTS and experience the same thing. So, does the TTS also have a "saddlebag" gas tank like the C4, or just the C4, and I'm experiencing a difference issue? Again, once filled to 4/4 fuel gauge reads correctly. Also, if the TTS has a "saddlebag" fuel tank, is its fuel capacity reduced from a "standard" fuel tank. It just seems like I can't put much fuel in the thing when the low fuel light comes on (about 10 US gallons). TIA, Steve
  5. Thanks Loren for the quick response and information. At 483 hp, that's even higher then the "official" owner's manual claims. Everything seems to be "straight and true" without any "stories" on this car, and it only has 4k miles on it, so I think I'll move forward after my mechanic checks it out for me as well. Thanks again, I look forward to being a new (and recently Contributing) member of the Forum. Steve Ft. Worth, TX
  6. I'm considering buying a 2005 996 Turbo S, that is supposed to have the 455 hp engine installed. This is supposed to be similar to the x50 option from previous years. The Engine/Transmission code in the Maintenance Book lists the code as: M9670-645 G9650-40 Can anyone confirm these codes confirm the 455 hp engine version (it has the 6-spd manual tranny)? Thanks in advance!
