  1. Every so often my radio won't make a sound, the head acts normally but nothing I do results in any sound, including pulling over and restarting the engine. I also lose bass/treble/etc. settings (but not radio presets) though I haven't paid enough attention to correlate the occasions. It's becoming a more frequent occurrence and will take it up with the dealer on my next visit.

My Cayenne is a V-6, I don't know if you refer to an automated comfort control system as mine doesn't have that feature.

  2. FYI, GG Bailey will make a mat for the drivers side only: http://www.ggbailey.com/ They come with the grommet holes to match our vehicle's mat mounting method.

They have a carpet sample kit for $4.00 shipping and give you a coupon code for free shipping on a subsequent order. Their Light Grey is a dead ringer for our Cayenne grey carpeting.

I ended up ordering a personalized front pair after all, and couldn't resist getting a set of their Oriental Carpet mats for the wife's new Infiniti. What can I say?

  3. I have one of those cheap V6 models (as if $52k were cheap) and my car came with only rubber covered pedals and I'd love to replace them all with some nice aluminum pedals.

The aforementioned ones that were installed by his son looks good, but I want a set that actually fits well with little modification.

Do you guys have any suggestions?

Don't let my comments above scare you off, I just wanted to be very precise regarding their fit. The "mod" consisted of me going around the corner to the local hardware store and checking their aisle with all the nuts and bolts in little drawers. I spent about $2 on two sets of slightly longer stainless steel longer bolts, nuts, and washers, and four ss screws. Installation, in total, took about 15 minutes. I've since driven with them and they are very solid and I don't expect any problems with them.

I also have a V6 and originally replaced the two stock pedals with the nicer looking rubber ones like here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/PORSCHE-CAY...sspagenameZWDVW They are fine and if I could have found a reasonably priced dead pedal to exactly match I would have stuck with them.

  4. FYI, my search for a dead pedal resulted in a full replacement with aluminum, and at a very reasonable price. I had seen a four piece set of aluminum pedals on eBay, and the price recently dropped so I snagged them: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...TRK%3AMEWN%3AIT I'm sure they'll put some more up, and they do have them at their store at http://www.luxwheelsandaccessories.com/Mer...Category_Code=C though the shipping is higher with a direct purchase.

Comments: So far, so good, quality looks ok, there were some minor installation issues. First, the brake pedal curvature does not match up perfectly with my '04 Cayenne pedal, but it was close enough to do the job. The remaining pedals fit was ok, though the brake release is also not a perfect fit, but that's no biggie.

A pack of black bolts, split washers, and nuts is included, but they are not sufficient to mount the pedals. The screw locations designated on the pedals can hit a place where the brackets are located in a couple cases, so the bolts are too short. The accelerator is plastic with a honeycombed construction, so it also requires more lengthy bolts (not by much), and a second, larger washer can be a good idea. But in the grand scheme of things, it's no big thang.

They provide black double faced adhesive pads to mount the dead pedal plate -- I elected to use four short stainless steel screws, which seem to have a good hold in the plastic/carpet section beneath it. We'll see.

In any case, they look very sharp, and I'm happy to finally have something in place of the perpetually dirty Porsche plastic rectangle.

  5. Like the majority of American drivers, most of my driving time in my Cayenne is done solo. Therefore, the driver's mat gets all the wear and looks like crap, while the remaining three look almost new. They are the stock Porsche Cayenne mats for my grey interior, which I wish had a heel reinforcement under the accelerator pedal.

I've inquired with a couple custom mat makers on eBay (example http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/PORSCHE-Flo...spagenameZWDVW) to see if they'd supply a single mat rather than a set, and will report on their response.

I wonder if any other owners have satisfied this need in any other way -- I don't know, will Porsche sell a single mat or only sets?

    TIA, suggestions welcome.

  6. I would like to hardwire my Sirius unit instead of using the 12volt outlets under the dash in my Cayenne (so I don't have to turn it off when I leave the car). I would like to run the wires to the right fuse panel. Are there any Porsche fuse kits to add an additional electrical takeoff (I know that they must include such things with their dealer installed units)? Just want the fuse assembly. Also, I need to have this switched, not permanently on. Any TSB on the web site that describes such a thing? I hesitate to take it to the dealer to get this done since I already have a second mortage line of credit to pay for new tires every 9,000 miles and don't want to get a third mortgage just for some wiring.

Any further guidance-- I'm embarrased to admit that, in spite of crawling all over and doing heavy duty work on every other car I've owned, including my old 911, I haven't even looked under the hood of my Cayenne (what's to look at?) more than twice in the last two years. I should probably be able to figure out where to go in the panel, but where is it? :D I hear a vicious rumor that the battery is under the passenger seat but it is thusfar unconfirmed. :P This is one 50+ year old that has tired of the novelty of playing with cars.

I'd also love to hear from anyone else doing satellite radio on the cheap-- where did you route the antenna and cable? I'm old and wise enough to benefit from other folks' scars, I have enough of my own.

Wanna talk about setting the points in 70's era Opels??

  7. Yes, I also bought the "Cayenne S and Turbo Factory Pedal Set" for my 6, which is what motivated me to ask the question. I somehow envisioned that the S and Turbo might have come with a matching dead pedal rather than a dirt-prone piece of plastic on the floor. Looks like Rennline has done a nice job, but figured if Porsche already made one...

Of course, the fact that Rennline has made one may answer that question. Just curious what the S and Turbo has as a left foot rest.

I'm one of the lucky Cayenne owners who has taken his car to the dealer only once since he bought it 15 months ago, so I haven't had a chance to spy on other Cayennes.

  8. Maybe I'm naive (my first SUV), but I was surprised to read these reports. I guess I expected to see something closer to the normal mileage I get from good quality tires on other vehicles I've owned. I've got less than 9,000 miles on my Cayenne and really haven't paid much attention to tires other than heeding the occasional whine from the tire pressure monitoring system.

Are these short tire lives due to softer compounds used to improve ride quality, enhance grip, etc.??

  9. Can you tell me if there will be any more decals for sale on EBAY or personally. Currently I cannot find any new auctions and really want to get one for my Cayenne S.  Regards

    Joe

You can get one direct from my son Mark, who made the first one for my Cayenne. He is at mark@gollihur.com

    thanks, Bob

  10. I'm in a semi-rural area of NJ with a dearth of decent radio stations, and I find my stock (Cayenne V6, no sound system upgrade) radio reception to be pretty poor in comparison to my past rides. I get a lot of noise due to poor signal strength far more quickly than I experience with other vehicle radios.

I assume this may have something to do with the lack of a conventional antenna?

Has anyone had a parallel experience, and if so, any thoughts towards a solution (other than satellite radio or playing CDs ;) )

    TIA, Bob

  11. Me too!! good job!! what software you used to design it? Can you send me a copy of the file by e-mail?

I found a freeware Porsche TrueType font; I have attached it to this post in ZIP archive format. If you cannot open it, email me and I'll send the files by email, unzipped. You can use this font with any Windows application for a variety of purposes. I also found a second "Porscha" font that has similar typography but is not as accurately proportioned as the one I have attached, but could also be useful- email if you want it, too.

My son has one of those computer controlled vinyl sign cutters, and we usually use Paint Shop Pro or Corel Draw to do artwork and then "print" it to the sign cutter in the size desired. We get the high quality vinyl material that is very thin but also very robust. He has had a couple white stickers on his car made from the economy grade stuff and it has held up for three years and still looks new. Technology can be a wonderful thing ;)

If anyone is interested in one for your Cayenne, email me and I'll put you in touch with him. It is just shy of 15" long, same as the brake light, seemed appropriate.

  12. I noticed, by accident, the PORSCHE decal on inside top of the back window of my Cayenne. You can't really see it from the outside, I'm trying to understand the point. Does it somehow appear when the brake light shines on it??

Meanwhile, I asked my son to make up a vinyl sticker from the high quality stuff we get, in silver metallic. It's only about half again larger than the inside sticker, and we placed it in the same position. It's subtle, same width as the third brake light:

    caysticker.jpg

Pardon me for otherwise desecrating it with my BASS sticker... it's my business and what paid for the truck, so it's the least I could do ;)

BTW, the more I drive the Cayenne, the more I love it.

  13. Does anyone have any experience with the Kuda cell phone mounts I see on eBay regularly? Example: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...item=2468927531 (made in Germany, home page: http://www.kuda-phonebase.de/ )

My concerns are (1) Quality and, (2) Color matching to stock gray interior. Their web site does say, "Leather is a natural product and a slight difference in the color is possible" which concerns me, so I am trying to get references from any existing users of these products.

There's just no stable place to stick my cell phone when I use it with my headset.

I'm also considering a portable satellite radio rig and pondering a location for it; there is a wide open space on the dash to the right of the steering wheel, but I haven't looked too closely.

Anyone care to share some experiences or thoughts? TIA, Bob
