  1. Mechanical Engineers are the kings of jimmy rigging , ask me how i know .... run away if a Mechanical Engineer is doing the up keep on anything ..haha j/k

ME's, Let see, James Watt, steam engine; Leonardo DaVinci; The Wright brothers although not classically trained, GW Roebling, Brooklyn Bridge, And for god or bad, the guys that designed our P-cars are predominantly ME's With out the ME, life would be rather boring. ME's rule, at least better than the EE's.

  2. I want to remove the Factory Becker Radio and install a double-din monitor in the Upper Dash.

I need to relocate the HVAC controls to the upper-position in the lower dash (currently occupied by the CD-holder-gizmo). Is there a wiring kit needed, or does the factory wiring reach? (i've seen other people mount it down there)

Does anyone have a list of all the optional (factory or 3rd party) dash components for the dash? I've seen a few posts when searching, but most of the parts seemed to be for the accessory pockets.

    Thanks!

  3. I have a 2003 Targa that I just got and wanted to ask the local dealer if they could pull the VIN and tell me what has been done to date with this car. Understanding that the title hasn't cleared yet, I know that my name won't show as the owner. I wasn't asking about that kind of information....just the service and dates.

But the dealer won't help out stating confidentiality stuff.

Folks, all I want to know is that what/when work was done on this car. I don't care about the owner(s). Carfax showed nothing and the dealer is doing the same.

    Any way around this????

    My VIN WP0BA29943S635380

    thanks

    bob.

When I bought my 01 c2 coupe, I called a dealer in the state that the car was initially registered. I gave him the VIN # and he was able to tell me what dealer sold the car. I called that dealer and they went over the service history over the phone. I looked at several cars before this one and had no problems getting the service histories. In all cases, the prior owners name was blacked out on the hard copies I did get. I am in MA. the dealers were in MA, Maine and Virginia and were most helpful.

    Good luck:

  4. Im a bit suspicious about the mileage on a cheap 99 996C2... does anyone know if there is a way to double check before i go and ask the dealer?

    thanks in advance

    kelvin

I do not know how anyone could change the mileage on the odometer without getting into the computer and resetting a bit or something. I would hope the folks at Porsche are smarter than that.

How cheap is cheap? Did you do a PPI? , have any maintainence records? and for what it's worth, a carfax?

You can find out where or who the original dealer was with the VIN # and see if thay have any records. They will have the milage and services performed and the dates they were performed. If the car was serviced at at porsche dealer, with a little leg work, you can see if the service records support the milage on the odometer. What does the car have for options? and what is the milage. I looked at a 99 c2 with 105K for $23 k. Is this a private sale?

    Good luck

  5. Rather then buying yet another battery charger (I have an automatic variable current monster, a 1A motorcycle unit and even a couple of solar trickle panels). Rather then buying the Porsche unit...

Is there anything special about the Porsche branded units?

Can I use the small motorcycle unit or a solar panel?

I am going away for a week, do I even need to worry?

    Thanks

My 996 goes a week routinely without a problem.

  6. Loren & All

My Techart exhaust made by Supersprint has two separate exhaust chambers/cans which do not interconnect, whereas most other after market systems do in some manner. Is it worthwhile getting a crossover pipe welded in, what difference does mixing the exhaust gases between the chambers make PLEASE ?

    http://www.supersprint.com/homeuk.htm

The reason most automotive engines that have a flat opposed or a "V" configuration have an exhaust system that ties both banks together is to equalize the back pressure on both banks or cylinder heads. This will better control the airflow through the engine as a whole, since the air intake comes from a single manifold. If the back pressure was not equal, one bank would get more air flow than the other. This will cause that bank to run leaner or the other bank could run richer as the computer tries to make up for one or the other condition.

  7. My drivers side headlight went out and i can not figure out how to remove the headlight lense! I have a tech manual but it isnt complete and i dont have this chapter. If anyone has any info that would help me i would really appreciate it!! Thanks!! <_<

You can download a copy of the owners manual on this site. It will have the info there around page 120 for my 03. Inside your tool kit, there is a hex socket with a sliding Tee handle, on the inside of the trunk, remove the carpet on the affected side, remove large round rubber plug, insert hex socket and rotate, I believe clockwise on the drivers side. you will here a snap and see the whole lens assy slide forward. When the lens has freed itself from the clip, you will see inside, slide completely out. The rear lid of the assy is held on by a snap hinge, release and open, all your light bulbe will be accessable. Take much care upon reinsertion to have all the guide tabs in thier appropriate slots. Pay attention to what goes where when removing. An easy job when you have done it a couple of times.

  8. From eBay, I see a number of these available, look to be pretty much all the same blue anodized piece with chrome shift handle.

    http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewIt...A%3AIT&rd=1

Do they work well, and feed back from those that have tried them, etc.

    Thanks, Al

    Al;

I have a B&M short shifter installed. Looks alot like that one. The handle does stand up straight in neutral. The best part is shifting with a simple rotation of your wrist. Your arm does not have to move.

    Loren:

As a newbie to the Carrera world, and your site. I would like to let you know your site has proven most useful. As far as the TSB's, I found the list, can and how do you access the content? Specifically on the topic of engine oils.
