  1. We don't have those here in the US. Most of us have never seen anything like it.
  2. This is perfectly normal in my experience. It happens in my '86 Carrera and also in my '07 C2S. It's the synchro design, I've been told. 1st gear is nearly impossible to engage unless you are going about 5 mph or less, and it sometimes doesn't go into gear when you're stopped for a short while. The way to avoid this is to ease it into 1st just before you roll to a stop. When you do have trouble getting into first after being stationary for a while, first move it into the 2nd gear position and then it will go right into 1st with no problem.
  3. They DO sell the Xenons - they are standard on all the 'S' models, and optional on all the non-S variants such as yours. Whoever bought the car new didn't opt for Xenon headlamps.
  4. The V1 has its strengths, but it also receives complaints on its high rate of false alarms and its bulkiness. There are other detectors that are as good as a V1, such as the Escort 9500i in terms of sensitivity. What many people seem to love about the V1 is that it tells you which direction the threat is coming from. If you think about it, that is pretty much useless information since the reaction in all cases will be exactly the same - slow down. I wouldn't give a hoot about knowing where it is because it won't affect my response.
  5. That is precisely correct. It's cheaper for Porsche to provide a Roadside Assistance plan than it is to put a spare tire and full tool kit in every car. Hey, this is the 21st century. Your tool kit now consists of a cell phone and a card with a number on it. Porsche probably figures that 99% of Americans (and Canadians?) would rather not get their hands dirty, and they are probably right. More and more carmakers are taking this approach. My '86 Carrera came with a complete tool kit, including spare fuses, a spark plug removal tool, and a spare fan belt. It was equipped so the owner could do roadside repairs of almost any common failure. Those were the days.
  6. I won't be picking up my 997 for a few more days, so I'm not positive, but page 287 of the owner's manual states that the wheel hanger and other wheel changing tools are not included in the tool kit.
