  1. Hey everyone. I’ve owned my 986 for about a month now, I got it super cheap because it has pretty high mileage and it has a number of small issues that I need to fix. The previous owner has already replaced some of the convertible top components, and I haven’t had any issues opening or closing the top until last night. The clamshell was always a little bit misaligned so I started to slight it all last night. I disconnected the cables from the motor and spun them with my drill, before reinstalling the cables and testing out the top for fitment. The top lowered and it all looked pretty good, but ever since then I cannot raise the top again. If I press the top down switch, I can hear the motor run for a half second, but there isn’t anything when I try to raise it. I’ve checked B6 and D3 fuses, both are good. I’ve pulled the relay and given it a few whacks but this also didn’t do anything. I took some wires and tried to bridge the pins for the relay to raise it this way, but the wires immediately got so hot that I couldn’t hold onto them, although I did hear the roof motor run for a brief second whilst the wires were in. What does this leave me with? Do I need a new relay to fix this? The roof latch microswitch seems to all be working just fine when I test it, so I don’t believe that’s the issue. I’m happy to buy a new relay but don’t want to order one if that doesn’t sound like the cause of the issue. Any help is appreciated!
