  1. Kdanh, what do you mean by 4X6 plates? Did you mount your Infinity to a custom plastic plate first, and then mounted the plate to the OEM grill or just straight speakers to grill? Do you have a photo of how it's mounted? I am upgrading my POS OEM speakers soon. Appreciate your help. Thanks.
  2. Our tips do have a lock-up convertor. But I have never noticed it. I am not sure if that's what you are experiencing. I have problems with my tiptronic including the flat-spot that feels like a gear change you describe and it's all due to low trans fluid levels due to a leak.
  3. Thanks for the info and offer CW. But I live in Melbourne Australia. I don't think the freight would be worth it.
  4. Thanks TP. I will weigh my 993 rims at next tire change to confirm see how much mine are. Thinking of using something like Volk Racing rims if they are lighter.
  5. Has anyone actually weighed the stock 17'' wheels? I am just wondering how heavy they are and whether an upgrade my reduce the unsprung weight significantly.
  6. Thank you for the write-up Todd. Very good read. Gives hope to the rest of us 2.5L anaemics. Once all the parts were there, how many hours, including taking out the old engine, replacing all the opportunistic bits in the new engine, adapting and installing everything, mucking around and procrastinating, did the entire process take? Any specialist "Porsche only" tools required during the process?
  7. Many people will be interested in the 3.4-swap how-to, Todd. It's not often that a project of this magnitude is undertaken at home. We await your posting of the write-up. (drum roll..........) :)
  8. It looks like you will need a new front bumper ($300), a headlight trim piece ($30), and a new paint job to the rear ($500?). Shouldn't be a lot. You could take this opportunity to get a 996 front bumper or a 3rd party item. BTW, your front bumper doesn't look like an S item.
  9. Thanks TP. Just my luck with Boxsters, again. :)
  10. My MY97 2.5 Tip has been with the mechanics for a while now. I have been having problems with it due to a tiptronic fluid leak. My mechanic, who is usually very reliable, told me that the leak is in front of the transmission and has already rebuilt the front of the transmission twice... he is adament that he cannot see any leaks coming from the seals he replaced. But he can't find any other cracks either. He says it's hard to spot the leak while the transmission is on the car, and while it's off, he can't see any leaks either. And yet, the large puddle of pink tiptronic fluid on my garage floor and the subsequent poor shifting tells a different story. Does anyone know of any way to check the tip casing for leaks? I was thinking wiping the case clean first, and then "spray" a layer of flour over it as a way of tracing down a leak. But there has to be a better idea?
  11. cnorthey, are you saying that your dealer is willing to do a 3.2L into your 2.5/2.7 for $2000 labour and said that it can be done?
  12. Thanks guys. Yes, it does have Velcro like surface on the other side. I didn't get the mats with the car, the guy must have removed them before he sold the car.
  13. When I bought my Boxster, I found these 4 things in the centre console left by the previous owner. I am not even sure if they are Boxster related. Anyone know if they are a Boxster part?
  14. steve_wilwerding, I got the same problem as you - the CR210 doesn't read some CDs and skips and goes back to the beginning. The radio also has trouble staying fixed to a station - it'd skip after a while with the car stationary in an area with excellent reception. Anyone know what this is due to? Or just another design flaw in Porsche components?
  15. Welcome Mike. The plastic window on the convertible top tend not to fold horizontally at the first instance when you deploy the top. It tends to engorge in the middle forming a "vertical spine" and as the top folds, this spine gets straightened out forcefully by the top frame. This is bad for the plastic and can cause it to crack over time. Just pause 1/3 of the way down and get out and have a look at the window and you will know what I mean. But then again, you might be lucky enough to have a window that conforms well to the folding and don't have a problem. But most Boxsters do have this problem due to poor design.
  16. http://www.markalexandermiller.com/TheCarF...y/BoxsterGT.htm This must surely be the most outrageous Boxster bodykit yet.
  17. photos continued
  18. My transmission had been playing up ever since I bought the car 1 year ago. Initially, it would slip when I accelerate out of a corner. Then it started to slip all the time in every gear (more prominent in 2nd). A good mechanic eventually found that the tip fluid was some 3L low, and topped it up. The car drove fantastic for about 3 weeks. Now, the initial symptoms of slipping when accelerating out of a corner has returned. I noticed that when I park my car nose down, there will be oil patches on the floor. They are in the middle of the car, around where the engine and transmission sits. I am still uncertain whether this oil leak only occurs when nose down, or it leaks all the time and just sits in a pan somewhere and tips out when the car is parked nose down. I have taken a few photos. Where the arrow points is where I have seen oil drops condensing and dripping. Any suggestion would be appreciated.
  19. Tholyoak, this would be a monster Boxster when it's done. Love to see pics and good luck with the project.
  20. I've had my MY97 Boxster for a year and so far, it has had: 1. none ignition problem - turned out to be faulty immobiliser relay 2. MAF failure - replaced 3. MAF failure again - replaced 4. ABS controller failure - replaced 5. tiptronic slipping - low oil, it seems, how it got low, still a mystery 6. 2 days after tiptronic service, now experiencing the "oil on the floor" symptom - praying it's just residual/overfilling of tip fluid, and not RMS In short, it can be very expensive and very annoying.
  21. Thanks for the clarification AR38070. :)
  22. The left corner of my convertible top sits about 1cm further to the windscreen compared to the right corner. It has been like this for a while. I am still able to latch it close with minimal effort. I have been reading the posts here. It seems like I have a plastic cable sleeve lengthening problem. And as I understand it, the way to fix it is either buy two new cables and replace the old ones with some adjustments to allow for the different length of the new cables; or simply cut a bit of the old plastic sleeve off the cable. Is this correct? I am going to do this DIY. Just in case the weather doesn't hold, approximately how long does this process take to DIY?
  23. My tiptronic has been slipping badly for a few months. Took it to Weltmeister's in Richmond VIC Australia a few times. Charged me heaps, and repeatedly told me that everything they could see was fine - fluid level not low, etc. And that it needed a re-build type of fix for $4000 to $7000. Took it to a general mechanic yesterday, told me the fluid was low by about 3L. Topped it up, cleaned the transmission filter, and charged me $150 altogether. The guy also told me that front sway bar link was loose on the right side - which Weltmeister never mentioned in all their times of servicing/repairing my car. Anyway, now all the slipping problems are gone! You wonder what's in a name sometimes.... Nonetheless, I think I've found myself a great mechanic.
  24. Eric, does your finish actually look like brushed aluminium? The reason I ask is I am comtemplating getting my interior done too. But taking it to the local automotive paint workshop would end up giving my interior a glossy silver look that looks like the exterior of the car - which is quite different to the aluminium look which I can only best describe as "cool, thin, sharp and non-reflective".
  25. I have Pirelli P-Zeros on the back. Seriously unimpressed with its wet performance too.
