Just to add another point to this, I now have a new silver centre console that does not have the 2 hinge mounts moulded on the top for the glovebox lid like the old one. I have read up on the hinge repair kit so will order those parts tomorrow. One other problem I cannot find the answer to is that the black plastic extension piece that sits at the back of the console behind the glove box lid has 2 x red washers to hold the 2 torx screws in to secure the black piece to the main console body. These washers from my old console do not fit the later console without the plastic hinge parts moulded on. So my question is does anyone have a part number for the new clips? The mouth part on the red washers where they slot on is too narrow, I guess they thickened up the plastic for the new console because of the breakages. Any advice appreciated Thanks

Just to let everyone know I have solved this problem. If you remove the vent carefully, there is just enough slack in the wires coming out of the headlight trim surround to enable you to get your hand inside the dash. If you follow the wires they disappear into a grey sponge tube. Inside here is a black connector. You need a very small screwdriver to push the pin in the clip to release, then you can thread the wires out of the vent to remove it fully. This had me stumped overnight as it is not on the Porsche diagrams. Another check - when refitting the vents, when you pop them back into the dash make sure the inner side control arm that opens and closes the flap that lets the air in the back of the vent does not get detatched. The problem is that is sits right alongside the inner of the dash tim and it is easy to dislocate the ball and socket joint when sliding the vents back in. I had to redo both of mine so check with the wheely control and a torch before you do the screws up! Also, the vents I got did not have the slats in so I have used my old slats. In the original vents the inner securing clips are heat welded in so you have to break the welds out, I was a bit worried at this but it is easy to do with a small screwdriver. When removing the slats themselves, pull the widest part of the vent out sideways to enable you to pop one of the middle slats out. This gives you more working space to get your fingers in to remove the rest of the slats rather than starting at one end. They are quite flexible and easy to bend to remove. When putting them in the new vents I just started at one end. Check the fin that moves the inner slats from side to side is connected. Hope this is of some use to someone I don't want to state the obvious!

Hi Guys, Another problem I have come accross - cant find the answer on here, I have removed the light switch so I can get the air vent off to swap for a silver one. However, the trim that illuminates around the headlight switch has 4 brown wires coming off the circular curcuit board inside the switch trim. They are soldered in and dissappear into the air vent. Hence I cannot get the air vent off. This is a UK car year 2000, any advice, there is hardly any length to the wires so I cannot pull the vent trim off and investigate behind to see if there is a connector. I have fitted the passenger side so I have one silver and one savannah at the moment! Thanks

Hi Guys, I have followed the instructions on here about removing the horseshoe - mine is the 3 part one. However I have navigation and I cannot get the trim off that is left from around the nav unit to replace with the silver trim. I thought it would slide forwards over the nav display but it doesnt. I can only think that I have to disconnect all the wiring to the nav display and slide the remainder of the old horseshoue backwards over the nav. I really don't want to do this, is there a way of releasing the horseshoe from the nav. There appears to be a cage moulded into the back of the horseshoe which there isn't on my silver one. Please help my car is in bits!! Thanks Vron

Hi I am trying to buy an aftermarket "horseshoe" trim. I am told it is 3 parts and the 2 side pieces are no longer manufactured. The porsche specialist suggested the later 1 piece may fit but has never tried it. Does anyone kow the answer? Thanks Vron
