  1. The computer on my 997 2s was falshing on the last bar for the oil indicator. I got nervous and put 2 quarts of oil in. I know that was to much. What should I do? Can that cause damage? The car is running fine but I'm worried. Any advise. Thanks

yes it can cause damage. the oil can "froth" and not properly lubricate. I suppose you could buy a pump kit to drain a bit from the input pipe but I've never done that on a 997. The other option would be to open the drain plug for a very short time and let a quart or so out, but technically you should change the aluminum o-ring. Safest bet would be to get an oil change.

  2. I'm in the northeast, so the roads aren't the best. The 18s give great feel, great feedback. The 19's with PASM in normal were uncomfortable allowing sharper jolts. Sport mode is a joke unless on completely smooth roads. The 19s also seemed to follow road imperfections and the car would actually move in the imperfection.

I don't blame the PASM by the way, but rather the low profile 19s. You save you drive a 996 with 18s so you know how mine drives, but youmay not realize the 18s on mine and yours are not the same. I believe you have 35 sidewall and I have 40. It is a substantial difference. Read last months Excellence about a 997 cab and they discuss the tire difference and that the ride between 996 and 997 is substantial diff.

Compare apple and apples. Test drive a 997 with and without PASM. I wouldn't be surprised to find that PASM w/18s would be better than my 18s without, but there is no question my C2 drives better tahn the C2S did. When I did have the C2S, it wore 18 winter rubber at times which tends not to be as comfortable as summer rubber, when I put the 19s on the ride was noticeably worse. The PASM with winter 18s was not as good as non PASM w/ summer 18s, but the diff was closer.

  3. Hello Everyone,

I'm a total newbie on this site, but am already learning all kinds of great stuff about my beloved 996.

I've got a problem with my PCM2 unit and wondered if anyone had any ideas of anything I could do with it a quick fix before I take the plunge and go to Porsche.

The PCM has basically stopped working, I think it could be a loose connection somewhere as the 'Porsche Crest' screen flashes up for a few seconds at a time before going dead again! During this time, none of the controls on the module work so I can't even turn the bl@@dy thing off!!

Anyway, if anybody has experienced anything similar and has any ideas on a fix, please let me know.

    Many Thanks

    Duncan

My entire unit had to be replaced when just the Nav was freezing. It sounds like yours it trying to boot and is encountering an error. I suspect they'll have to replace the unit, but you could try a "reboot" by disconnecting the battery. But Be Aware. I've heard the older units need a PCM code to restart. Call your service department 1st.

  4. I have an offer to trade my 99 996 cab with 30k miles for an 06 coupe c2S for the car plus $45k. The new car has less than 1,000 miles.

Seems like a good deal. Any thoughts?

    THANKS

I'm not sure what your car is worth but having recently shopped for an 05-07 C2/C2S I'd say the 06 is worth between 73-80K depending on options. check out autotrader. Is it a CPO car? Why is it being sold already? accident? Be sure to check out a DME report on the car. Search here on how to interpret the DME data.

  5. using a tire plug to fill a nail hole is not recommended on high performance tires because it voids the speed rating. I have done it though, because in normal even spirited driving I can't imagine you'd approach your "new" max speed.

also, your tires are 305/30/19 not the wheels. you can get replacements at tirerack.com. you didn't list what brand tire you have but if its bridgestone they are $339, michelin $488, pirelli $465.

if you have significant wear you should replace in pairs, not just one.

some peope get as little as 7k miles and others close to 15k. depends on brand , driving style etc.

  6. I have an '05 C2S with the sport exhaust option (factory installed). At times under hard acceleration (when in sport mode) the light will come on indicating the quiter setting. As soon as I let up on the throttle, the light goes off. The dealer said it is normal, that the engine computer is doing it to control back pressure. Anyone have the sport exhaust? Does it behave the same way? Does the dealer explanation sound accurate?

    Thanks in advance.
