  1. I have an 07 C2 with winter conti's and it is quite good in the snow. as good as an 05 audi s4 quatrro with M&S tires I had.
  2. I have a C2 with 18s (turbo twist knock-offs) and Continental Winters. Excellent winter performance and reasonably priced at the tirerack. Ironically my previous car was an 05 Audi S4 Cab with Nero M&S. The Porsche is about as good with full winter rubber and I don't have AWD. Yours should be even better.
  3. yes it can cause damage. the oil can "froth" and not properly lubricate. I suppose you could buy a pump kit to drain a bit from the input pipe but I've never done that on a 997. The other option would be to open the drain plug for a very short time and let a quart or so out, but technically you should change the aluminum o-ring. Safest bet would be to get an oil change.
  4. there was a recent thread on rennlist on this exact situation and options for protection.
  5. Yes you are right. When I said "incorrect" I was talking about the comment I was about to type. :notworthy:
  6. incorrect. x51 is a power upgrade on the S model only and takes it from 355 hp to 381
  7. an 04 or even 05 C4S is a 996. C2 & C2S 997s came out in 05 but a year later for the awd models.
  8. The drive is CD, not DVD so I greatly doubt you could "rig" it.
  9. I'm in the northeast, so the roads aren't the best. The 18s give great feel, great feedback. The 19's with PASM in normal were uncomfortable allowing sharper jolts. Sport mode is a joke unless on completely smooth roads. The 19s also seemed to follow road imperfections and the car would actually move in the imperfection. I don't blame the PASM by the way, but rather the low profile 19s. You save you drive a 996 with 18s so you know how mine drives, but youmay not realize the 18s on mine and yours are not the same. I believe you have 35 sidewall and I have 40. It is a substantial difference. Read last months Excellence about a 997 cab and they discuss the tire difference and that the ride between 996 and 997 is substantial diff. Compare apple and apples. Test drive a 997 with and without PASM. I wouldn't be surprised to find that PASM w/18s would be better than my 18s without, but there is no question my C2 drives better tahn the C2S did. When I did have the C2S, it wore 18 winter rubber at times which tends not to be as comfortable as summer rubber, when I put the 19s on the ride was noticeably worse. The PASM with winter 18s was not as good as non PASM w/ summer 18s, but the diff was closer.
  10. I went from a C2S w/ 19s and PASM to a C2 with 18s and no PASM. C2 has a better ride.
  11. My entire unit had to be replaced when just the Nav was freezing. It sounds like yours it trying to boot and is encountering an error. I suspect they'll have to replace the unit, but you could try a "reboot" by disconnecting the battery. But Be Aware. I've heard the older units need a PCM code to restart. Call your service department 1st.
  12. The DME report/download from the car will tell you overrev incidents with the car which can be indicative of abuse.
  13. go to tirerack.com. check "survey results" and "test results" under any that fit and they will list and compare all including noise. I'm in the minority but I prefer continentals over michelins.
  14. I'm not sure what your car is worth but having recently shopped for an 05-07 C2/C2S I'd say the 06 is worth between 73-80K depending on options. check out autotrader. Is it a CPO car? Why is it being sold already? accident? Be sure to check out a DME report on the car. Search here on how to interpret the DME data.
  15. When jacking up the car (all 4 lift points on jack stands) do you do it with the parking brake on or off?
