  1. thanks again to all of you - esp to Scott for the time and details.. Your comments are invaluable! I'm going to double check financials early in the new year and work out EXACTLY how much room to play I actually have. Ultimately this will influence what I choose. Right now though it's leaning toward 996 - if I can get a good deal.. which with the right amount of research and painstaking wait I should be able to find. I'll probably only get the car a good few months into 2007 though, as I don't want to rush it - as HIGHLY tempting as it is - and my newfound interest in a 996 has warranted a look at earlier models - '99-01, which bring in more variables. Hope I can find an '02 but that's unlikely. This board is an incredible resource for help and advice. :notworthy: Will keep updating- and when i get the car... naturally the joy will be shared on here. Take care and Happy New Year to you all. The numbers 2007 will hopefully soon become 996 for me!!
  2. oh.. it's an 02 996 C4 Cab. and it's manual too... oh well... if only!!! :drive:
  3. Thanks for all the responses guys! It's still very much a toss up for me - I really like the 996 (and this is a new feeling for me as I never looked at them because of budget, "lack of warranty" concerns etc). The car will be my daily driver for most of next year - but will consider getting an SUV along the lines of Jeep or Land Rover Freelander- maybe BMW X3/5 later in the year, depending on how I find the Porsche as a daily driver. Initially, when the Boxster S was my only option I wanted an SUV for rainy /bad weather etc. The hard top 996 will negate this - so who knows if I'll even need the SUV on account of getting the 996... if I do?? Still unsure of the Tip Transmission though. I love the immediate response and control of manuals. This 996 has about 77000km on it.. the Boxster I'd get would have about half that. But being 6'3 I certainly appreciate the bigger 996 interior!! :notworthy: Also has anyone experienced the feeling of making up your mind on a certain model and car - then going to your dealer and seeing something else that just makes you lose all reason - and gives you a case of severe "maybe-I-can-stretch-my-budget-itus"?? This gave me that feeling.. but it IS out of my budget even with a stretch (short of one helluva deal and a miracle) I think the dealer just emailed me these pics to tempt me as he saw me giving it the eye!!:
  4. just realised... that you guys can ignore the extra of a wind deflector as an extra lol  Lost in the world of typing and listing extras - some of the Boxsters do have a little aluminium thrown in here and there though!
  5. Hi, I've been on the Boxster forum for a little while getting advice about my first Porsche purchase (finally!!) early next year :clapping: I'd more or less decided on an '03 Boxster S - but I just received word about a new arrival on my dealer's lot - a '99 996 C2 Coupe Tip. I'd never really looked at 996s as they were always out of my budget, but I can get a really good deal on this one (in fact it rivals all the Boxster deals I've been searching)... and I just realised what a stunning car this is!!! I know though, that it's got higher mileage than the Boxster S I would've got - and it doesn't seem very well specced too - just a sunroof from what I gather - while the Boxsters I've seen all have a little extra (wind deflector, Bose sound etc.) I've wanted a cabriolet for ages - but just looking at this 996 somehow just gives me this "all grown up", more complete feeling.. and from what I've heard - there's nothing quite like the feeling of a 911 (not to mention the little smirk when saying - "oh, me..? I drive a 911") <_< I'm also not sure about the Tip box over Manual transmission. I've found the Tip Boxster suffers from loss in power as compared to the manual. Is the 996 Tip similar in this regard?... Eseentially, what I'm asking is will the 996 Tip be faster than the Manual Boxster S? Any advice on the plusses of 996 over Boxster S? One obvious downfall is that the 996 will have no balance of warranty. But I'm assuming the feeling and performance of the 996 wil more than make up for that! Thanks for helping out a newbie... 996 pic attached. comments appreciated.
  6. thanks tool pants! i pretty much know what it is now... still weighing up options. will update soon! To everyone who contributed, thanks for the time... When I have more it's sure to go up here...
  7. well.. it's certainly not the image i want - though the last 2 women I've dated have been blondes... so maybe I'm partial  somebody please gimme pics of sport design package. I've looked around - can't seem to find a pic of just the basic package (the one's i've found have other exterior mods as well!)
  8. Thanks guys. Really appreciate the advice! Right now - I'm leaning for the Red one... They're both listed as 2003 models. But you guys say the red one is newer with updated bumper and different muffler? Was there a difference between the earlier 2003 and later 2003 models and what's the difference between the CD 220 and 23 stereos? Also, how does the Sport Design Package look? - I haven't seen it. Arctic Silver was my original choice (for that understated, executive look) but the boy in me is saying RED SPORTS CAR! The Aluma look steering is pretty cool too! So unless they get another car in in the next 2 months... It's probably gonna be red! I'd hate it to look orange in a few years though - so let's hope it won't look too bad!! Sorry for the many questions - I'm new to the specifics of Porsches (we all start somewhere right?) As usual, thanks for helping out a newbie
  9. sorry.. i meant that both cars are same price. also 1 more pic
  10. Okay my dealer emailed me these pics. They're exactly the same price which is just in my price range.. and will drop more with discounts, trade in and once i haggle :D The red one has 25000km on it and these options: Windscreen with Graduated Tint, Porsche Stability Management(PSM), Porsche CDR-23 CD Radio, CD Storage, Bose Sound System, Telephone Preparation Kit, On-board Computer. Love the colour... The Black one has 21000km on it and these options: Windscreen Graduated Tint, Porsche CDR-220 CD Radio, Sound Package, CD Storage, Telephone Preparation Kit, On-board Computer, Wind Deflector with Storage, Porsche Stability Management(PSM) Also love it in Basalt Black. Sheesh this is a hard chioce. Think they're the same. There's also an Arctic Silver (my original colour specifiation) one for R10k more - Options: Windscreen with Graduated Tint, Bose Sound System, Wind Deflector, Porsche Stability Management(PSM), Porsche CDR-220 CD Radio, CD Storage, Telephone Preparation Kit, On-board Computer, Sport Design Package . What's the Sport Design Package Hopefully I'll get pics of that soon.. help... advice...
  11. okay just looked at your buying giude mike. and it looks like it's all there.. thanks again!!
  12. Thanks ffor the response guys - I pretty much figure the same thing. I guess I'll have to see what my budget allows. What do you guys make of residual plans in terms of finance? If I go for the 987 (which will be a budget stretch) I'l have to go for a finance plan like that... Right now though it's looking like 986. There's a 2003 Boxster S (M) that's been on the dealers lot since last year (!!!) (attached pic). Mileage on 18000km. Bose Sound and Warranty extension (don't know how much longer). I'm suspicious as it's been there for so long, and I don't know why! Not sure about the colour too... There's also a 2001 S (M) (2nd pic) that they just got in. Speed Yellow with features. They couldn't give me more details as it isn't from Porsche Centre. But it looks like it has GT3 wheels... mileage also on 18000km. It's is R50k cheaper than the 2003... and R140k cheaper than an 05 987S. Any major differences between the '01 986 and '03 986? 185kw vs 191kw? are these noticeable on the cars... Are the interiors much different? I have to ask as I live about 500km away from the nearest Porsche dealership. So most info i get on email... Thanks again for helping out a newbie
  13. Hi guys (I also posted this in the 987 forum) I'm new to this site - and am pretty much certain of acquiring my first Porsche early next year. :drive: A bit of background info on me: I'm 23, from South Africa and about to launch my own Branding and Advertising company. Owning a Porsche has been a dream of mine since I was kid. I've been working since college to fulfil my dreams of being in advertising (and getting the Porsche).. and I'm finally at the stage where I can! I've been looking at various models (from other manufacturers as well.. Dad wants me to get a Z4 M or SLK - friends want me to get a Nissan 350Z) and have decided on the Boxster S. Herein lies the dilemma (if that's even a word to Porsche buyers): I love the 987 S - in terms of aesthetics and performance. Had the pleasure of driving a 2005 model - and had trouble giving it back!! Though, a 2003 986 S goes for quite a bit cheaper - and with the saving I can go for a few retrofit sand more or less get it to what I want. I haven't driven one yet... and don't know if there's really all that much difference between the 191kw 986 and 206kw 987. Any advice here would really help! The car will also be a daily driver - and I also plan on enjoying it as much as I can - (long trips to the coast etc). Is this practical? Ultimately, I want a unique, uncommon, performance car that suits my lifestyle and one that sets me apart from guys in this field. I'm assuming a Boxster S will do that well. A 2003 model still has a few years on the motorplan in place - and I'd want that because of the peace of mind thing. The ones I've looked at have about 18000-20000km on them. Is this the more viable option? A 2005/6 987 with mileage of about 6000-10000km goes for R100k more. Which one guys? thanks for the advice - sorry the post is so long. No one else I talk to knows anything about Porsches (but tell them about a BMW and and they'll wax lyrical!!) :cursing: Look forward to a response.
