  1. Not trying to start anything, but you must be sniffing the Nitrogen if you think it gives you a quieter/softer ride. The only advantage you will get is, perhaps, the lack of moisture compared with standard air filled. Oh, Oh! Now you have done it.... you've started a Nitrogen versus Air post.... we won't be able to stop it.... it will overwhelm the servers... :thumbup:

This is my layman's way of checking... if the brake pads are dragging in the back, you should see a drop in your gas mileage as well as the pistons would be pretty hot... even after just moderate driving (without hard braking). Also, you could roll your window down... and as your moving forward, put it in neutral / turn off engine and listen for some sort of dragging sound coming from the rear wheel. Finally, it is possible that the new pads you bought are just a lot softer and put out a lot more dust than what you are used to.
  3. I just watched my Porsche mechanic replace my clutch plate and he is meticulous in his work. Anyway, the one thing he did is put grease on the push-rod and its various contact/friction points. One idea might be that you are getting the clutch area nice and warm as you rev it up... making all those friction points more slippery... and therefore a little softer as long as it is nice and hot in there.
  4. I agree with this. I bent a rear wheel and pinched the tire because I had the pressure too low (36 psig). I have 37,000 miles on my 03 C2... and just replaced my rears for the 2nd time (I am on my 3rd pair of rears). I keep pretty accurate pressures on the tires... and have yet to find a strong relationship between pressure and tire wear pattern for the rear. The camber and how I drive seem to be a much bigger factor in the wear pattern. By the way, I am still on my original fronts... and I think they will last to my next set of rears need to be replaced (say around 55K miles). I did swap left / right once at around 20K to improve the wear pattern.
  5. Sorry to say this - but I had a bad experience at Rusnak in TO also. I was driving through the area in my '03 Cab, when my engine blew on the 101. Blown engine replaced under warranty there. Later on, I went to my trustworthy Porsche dealer in Bakersfield. He went over the car and found a couple of things wrong with the new installation - including a missing bolt between engine and transmission (the one on top - hardest to get to). I personally witnessed the inspection by my mechanic - and I agree with him... the work was sloppy.
  6. In reference to an '03 Cabriolet C2, be aware that a 996 with the Bose sound system has a different passenger floor mat than a non-Bose system. The reason is that the sub woofer is located on the side, resulting in slightly less floor space than a non-Bose set up. I learned this from direct experience, as I just had my mats replaced - and they inadvertently ordered the wrong ones.
  7. Even if the light did not come on... you should have 1 or 2 spare sensors on hand. My experience with MBZ is that the plastic surrounding the sensor gets brittle or it is sometimes hard to remove the sensor from the existing pad... and what a pain it is if you are in the middle of the job... with no spare sensor on hand.... (I have not had to do a brake job on my 996 yet...., so I speak from my MBZ experience only.)
  8. Congratulations - looks great. Obviously, my memory was faulty about having to update the PCM (I did have to go see the Porsche dealer at the time). Too bad, it definitely takes the place of the CD changer... and I have one... and I don't want to give it up... John.

EDIT - i just shoved bare ends of my new switch wire into the contact point of another switch so i could test it and still be reversible and everything worked so i'm going to leave it as is I can't answer your question about the extra wires, but I can tell you that I did add a garage opener switch by adding a switch to the dashboard (replacing one of the blank spots to the left of the radio). I ordered a window switch from Porsche and put it in there. I then wired it into the garage opener which I stuffed back there. For lighting the switch, I just tapped off the lighting wires off another one of the switches in the dash. I think I also saw a post here that showed a similar idea, but they located the switch at the bottom of the console near the seat heater switches.
  10. I have a 2003 996 Cab with PCM 2, Bose system and CD changer. Like everyone else on the planet, I want to connect my IPod to the system. I am familiar with all of the topics in these forums and have actually added the PCM 2 and CD changer on my own after purchase of the car. Anyway, the other day, I saw a post by Loren that showed the PCM 2 open to replace the SIM card holder. I am wondering if anyone (i.e., LOREN :-) ) can tell me if we can tap into the analog (not digital signal) inside the PCM 2. Prior to converting to fiber optics. For example signal out of the CD player to main mother board (i think that's going to be digital though). If this can be done, then it would be a cheaper way to bring the signal into the system instead of the Dennison unit. Besides, I don't want to loose my CD changer. I am very capable mechanically and electrically - but would hate to tear apart the unit while it is still under warranty; only to find out everything in the box is digital - and therefore not useful. Thank you
  11. The installer is probably right. I added a CD changer and it had to be "recognized" by the PCM2. Porsche dealer took care of it and it was not a big deal. Since the GW500 is just a substitute for the changer, I assume you would have to do the same thing.
  12. I just checked out WarrantyDirect.com's web site and this is what I got: We have temporarily discontinued sales of our MBI Program in California due to some technical changes in the program. Upon completion we will be back offering Mechanical Breakdown Insurance to our California Customers. If you have a current quote, please contact your representative before December 15, 2006 to complete your purchase. I am from CA... did not call them to get further clarification... but does not look good.
