  1. Yep, there's probably no easier way to get a little more hardcore engine sound. Takes maybe one minute and is completely reversible. I did the same to mine. Drove around for a week and deemed it slightly too loud and somewhat unattractive to look at the rough plastic. So I covered the thing in thick black biker jacket leather. I chose a stamping pattern and color that looks just like my seat leather. Now it looks better, smells better, and the additional mass of the leather takes the edge off the sound. It's not as easy hear the little noises like fuel injector clicks and valve train clatter and variocam actuation, { which I don't miss } but on heavy throtttle that intoxicating rsr rip is still there. Hey, I paid good money for that engine thing back there. Since I don't get to see it I might as well hear it. jh

I took a look at my snorkel on my 2001 s and instead of desnorkling it and throwing the intake pipe away, i popped out the "snorkel", sawed the front 2/3's off the tube, replicated the curved surface of the intake trumpet in aluminum, and replaced my snorkel with my new shortsnork. I also took some sandpaper to the innards of the intake box, smoothed out all the surfaces, polished them down more with some very fine paper, vacuumed the mess and grit out and then put the whole thing back together. I've been racing long enough to recognize that just popping out the tube would likely reduce hp from the air not flowing smoothly. The new short snork gives much more intake sound. And the cross section of the intake is larger as well. It was clearly added to the car for noice attenuation purposes. What I have now sort of resembles the 987 intake pipe. All in all, a simple mod that bumps up intake sound significantly, and maybe adds a hp or two on the top end due to increased airflow. jh
  3. I just bought the perfect S I've been waiting for. 2001 model, silver with a hardtop, lots of goodies and only 7,000 miles on it. I've been driving it for a week or so and have loved every minute of it. It is, as you know, a spectacular car in completely stock format and more car than any reasonable driver should ever want. Call me unreasonable, but I'd would like to make a few changes to this otherwise perfect car. Mostly I'll just be undoing things that lawyers did to the car. I am looking for an exhaust that makes it sound like a car that has a pulse. Notice i didn't say loud. I have 2 race cars that fit that bill. This is going to be a street car, drive to work car that will visit the track on occasion. Is the dansk pressed a good way to go for just a bit more exhaust sound? Is there an internal mod that can accomplish the same thing if I buy an old muffler off ebay and start hacking away? The evo intake and giac chip seem like a nice upgrade with little compromise. True? I'm a sucker for good intake noises and higher rev limits. Any known issues with the 7500 limit? Also, does the GIAC chip preserve the soft rev limit of the stock setup? My car has the 18" turbo look wheels and I actually find them to be on the brittle side for general use. It's this silly preference for big wheels and thin tires that usually is usually the cause of that scenario. To me the spring rates/ shock valving seems fine. Would picking up a set of the 17" wheels with the slightly taller tires that accompany it make for a better around town ride? Also, I plan to do more than my share of track days in the car. Any known preference for tire wheel setup that works well on track? Also, I read that a little dremel action on the camber adjusting eyes will buy me somewhere between 1.5 and 2 degrees of camber up front to reduce tire wear/ understeer on track days. True? Or am I better off buying the camber plates? On a more hardcore note, I have given some consideration to having them remove the convertible top and associated motors and going fulltime hardtop. Saves a little weight. And I'm not really a convertible guy. Anybody around there done that? Oh and the stereo sucks. Other than that love, love, love the car. And I love beer too so let's throw in one of these things... :cheers: jh
