You probably won't like to read this, but yesterday, I found a link on the German "Porsche Fan Forum" (PFF.de) that pointed to the following Press Release on Porsche's German website: Link: http://www.porsche.com/germany/about...many&id=423415 It states the following: "Porsche is checking worldwide 16,429 vehicles of the models 911 Carrera as well as 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman, 2,576 of which in Germany. On the affected vehicles the screws connecting the fuel collection pipes could possibly come loose. The service departments will replace the mounting bolts with optimized screws. This is merely a precautionary measure." The last sentence sounds rather soothing, since additional sources in the German automobile press indicate, that, if these screws fail, fuel can run out over the potentially very hot engine block and constitute a fire hazard. I called Porsche USA in Atlanta, and they confirmed this upcoming event. The recall reached them this past Monday, and they are presently preparing the recall letters. My car, a very new 2017 991.2, is part of the recall . They did not yet have an exact date as to when the bolt replacement can start, since they are still waiting for the required parts. On the German Porsche Fan Forum I learned that this is not a quick and simple measure; the required worktime at German shops is indicated with 6 hours (!!). I wonder if they need to drop the engine to get to those bolts??? Maybe someone with reliable mechanical insight can explain the potential work required in more detail. Greetings, Rainer
  3. pmarangoni, Did you check your center-mounted brake light? Some Caymans suffer from a plasticy rattle there, which can easily be fixed by inserting felt between the plastic enclosure and the glas of the hatch.

  5. I really like the GT-type carbon fiber strip on the bumper following the contours of the hatch (see attachment). Reduces the somewhat bland Kermit appearance and brings more defintion to the front. Does anybody know a provider of such a C/F strip for the Cayman? Merry Christmas to all!!

  7. Today, I noticed a slight engine vibration around 1900 RPM. It starts at around 1850 RPM and disappears at about 1950 RPM. It can only be felt when the car is standing still (not when driven) and it occurs with the manual transmission in neutral with depressed and non-depressed clutch pedal. Engine temperature (cold or warm) doesn't affect it either. The vibration is very small but it can be felt in the seat. The symptom doesn't have to be new - I just never revved up the engine so slooowly to have enough time to actually notice it. Does anybody else have this symptom? I would really appreciate any feedback (positive or negative). My Porsche dealer is 290 Miles away and I would hate to drive all the way to Albuquerque just to be told that "they all do that". I had my 2007 Cayman-S for about two months now and it developed a very similar noise (at least the descriptions here sound very much like it) while driving it home from the dealer after I bought it. It was clearly coming from the rear hatch, and my dealer knew nothing about it and had no idea what to do. The "clunk" just drove me crazy, so I opened the hatch liner and developed a fix, which is EASY to do. I posted detailed instructions about it under my login "Rainer" in the articles section of the "caymanclub.net", which is a GREAT site for Cayman afficionados.
