Ahh.. didn't know the interior paint code is under the hood too. Good to know though for anyone else wanting to do this :)
Anyways, it's close enough so I'm happy with it.
-
They look good!
Is that a scratch I see on your door pocket lid?
Thanks juniinc. No thats not a scratch no way I would have allowed it ;) just a reflection from camera flash.
jbboxsters Posted Yesterday, 12:21 PMCould you tell me what the paint code was that your painter used for the interior pieces and do they match the existing silver interior pieces.
Thanks,
Jerry
Unfortunately I couldn't get the factory paint code of the interior silver in time for spraying so my painter tried his best matching it. Its not 100% but close enough. Wait for my after photos.
seafeye: all cost me about 450 usd

Panameras:
The pieces look really good. Thanks for sharing photos.
Could you be sure to post photos of the car when everything has been installed?
Before and After would be even better.
I know how much work it was for you to take everything out in one piece. I also know you will probably enjoy the reassembly process a lot more!
Good Luck!
Regards, Maurice.
I will surely post before and after photos when I get the chance to put everything back in. Probably this weekend hopefully.
Good luck to me not to break anything :D

This is it guys, finally got all the pieces back from my painter. Here is some pictures :D

Once your green piece is removed whole cylinder should slide out forward. I believe there are 2 tabs you will need to pry and hold.
You were right. Hold down the top (clear plastic) tab and push forward, the top half lighter assembly comes out first then the bottom tab will come loose. Easier than it looks. Cheers

Looks cool! Now u need to upgrade your fog lights
Thanks, yours looks good too. Fogies can stay the way they are as they don't get used much.
-
I can't see what other info could you possibly need that are not already in this thread
Just get them installed as per these pages and you should be as happy as everyone else in here.

There is a black clip above your lamp holder(green) for the ring. You will need to pop it out
If I understood you correctly I did already removed the black clip and also the green piece. Now its just the lighter assembly like in your picture, how do I get it loose from the trim piece?
-
Everythings off now except, the cigarette lighter and the wiper speed controller/dialler(same spot as the cigarette lighter on the other piece) I just can't seem to get them off! I could always "mask" them up but would prefer doing it properly! Any other tips?

Anyone know what tools to use to remove the stereo unit? There are no screws attached from what I can see.
if it is just the radio (not the NAV system), you need 'radio keys' to remove the radio. they are two small aluminum 'keys' that you insert into little slots at the bottom corners of the radio. you can get them for $5 from http://www.beckerautosound.com and sometimes i see them on eBay for $10 or $15.
bought the "keys" from a Porsche dealer for $5 :)

Radio or NAV model?Anyone know what tools to use to remove the stereo unit? There are no screws attached from what I can see.its just a single din radio.

Does anyone have a picture of how they mounted the HID ballast?
Thanks to this great thread now I have fantastic HIDs in my car!
This is how I mounted the ballast...

Thanks again Chris, you have been very helpful.
Most pieces have been removed relatively trouble free so far thanks to everyones inputs in this thread. However I have run into one problem. Removal of the center dash trim, two "outer" trims (ones with 3 vertical buttons) off, climate control unit off, how do you remove the stereo unit (or din)?

Good results. I did extensive modifications to a Mustang years ago. 8 PSI Vortech blower, exhaust engine to tail, igniton, fuel, on and on. It was fun to see the gains once all had been done and dyno'd. There was an engine failure due to tuning but with money thrown at it, was fixed. Enough non-Porsche ramblings, I have a 2001 S. Great car, no problems as of 24K miles. Older model Boxsters can eek out modest gains with mods and money. But as an old player you'll get more out of your money by selling your car an upgrading. Be it a newer Boxster or 911.
Yeah I get that a lot from fellow boxster owners advicing me to upgrade to an 911 instead. See my other is a R34 Skyline which has been tuned to 400WHP so I don't really need a faster car but I do have an addiction when it comes to modding cars hence doing a few things to the "already fine tuned" boxster. Muffler, bypass pipes, H&R sway bars, and spacers on the way :D
P.S. Engine failure from 8psi? I would think any factory engine nowadays should be able to withstand such relatively low boost. But I guess its as you say bad tuning.

I have a sound file recorded as well if you are interested: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NWysMofc5R4...ted&search=
Nice clip. Why is there so much smoke? Was the engined already warm or still cold?
This video was recorded 30 minutes after I got home from work so the engine should still be warm at the time. But I hear Boxster engines do have a problem with white smokes very often.

Matt. It's the standard Giac software for 2000-2004 Boxster S.
My driving imperssions are that the car feels smoother on acceleration and power delivery is more linear. The engine feels more free-reving (especially from around 4000rpm). I can definitely feel a big difference as I have already driven the car in stock from for a few years so it's easier for me to pick up any improvements. These two mods in my opinion are the most cost effective enhancements for a Boxster consider the relative low cost (headers) and ease of installation (both) compared to say, an evo cold air intake or an aftermarket muffler.

Thanks Steven and Maurice. Problem 2 and 4 solved :)
To free this highlighted piece, does it require removing of the climate control and stereo units? I can see 4 screws there holding both units to it.
How do I remove the three vertical buttons and cigarette lighter on the trim pieces once they are separated from the dash?
Also any suggestions for the rest?
1: Removing the door pocket lid as I understand does not require to remove the whole door panel, just need to tap out the metal hinge bar. correct? Is it simple to reverse the process for reinstall?3: Removing side air vents - I undoed the two screws on the side. What else needs to loosened? and which direction to pull it out?
5: Both my front and rear boot release levers have scratches on them so I want to repaint them in silver. Any idea how to remove these? Or are they actually cheaper to replace with new parts from Porsche?
-
A quick update. Got me Giac software installed last week. Here is the result.
-
Finally got the chance to look at removing some of these parts so far I have removed the door handle covers and it wasn't easy at all just like Chris mentioned. I managed to broke one of tabs and saved the other.
Now I have a few specific questions hope you guys could help me with some of them. Attached picture for reference.
1: Removing the door pocket lid as I understand does not require to remove the whole door panel, just need to tap out the metal hinge bar. correct? Is it simple to reverse the process for reinstall?
2: Do I need to remove the door panel in order to remove the door pull (or grab bar) "yellow highlight" ?
3: Removing side air vents - I undoed the two screws on the side. What else needs to loosened? and which direction to pull it out?
4: How exaclty to remove these silver bits in the blue highlighted area?
5: Both my front and rear boot release levers have scratches on them so I want to repaint them in silver. Any idea how to remove these? Or are they actually cheaper to replace with new parts from Porsche?
Appreciate any help.

OK then, how about a 10-15% loss.
Hey I wasn't trying prove a percentage figure. I was actually surprised that my Boxster S had only 12% loss thought it was a freak. But I don't generally believe in percentage calculation for drivetrain loss, so interested to know what others actually had on the dyno to compare results.
-
15% drop? Could be a lot less with the Boxster mid-engine configuration. My 2000 3.2 actually produces 220hp at the wheels on a hot day (dyno dynamics), that's 12% loss!
-
Panameras, haha... maybe you got the 4-1 idea from... were you by chance, a former honda/acura/import enthusiast? I used to be, and when we thought headers, or I guess in that scene, 'header'... first thoughts to come to mind would be the 4-2-1 header vs. the 4-1 header.
Actually I think it was because my previous car was a V8 and had an 4 into 1 header on each side :P so why are you"going towards a different route"? Turbo charging now are we? :D
A Quick Question Re Radio Unit
in 986 Series (Boxster, Boxster S)
Posted
Sticky Radio Turning knobs
It's a single-din factory unit. I was wiping it with a wet towel and the two turning knobs on the face panel got sticky afterwards. Don't know why. Maybe it's old.
Can they be replaced? If so how?
Thanks
