  1. My pride and joy (1997 Boxster 2.5) played up on me on my way to work yesterday morning. I was driving on the motorway when there was a sudden loss of power. I was able to nurse it to the nearest off-ramp. I was able to crawl at a snails pace with the engine RPM just above idle. Any attempt to accelerate ended up with the engine cutting out. On the way to a nearby garage close to the off-ramp, the CEL started flashing for a short wile and eventually ended up as a full amber. At this point normal engine power was restored and I steadily returned home. I downloaded the fault codes last night and now need some advice on what the problem may could be. For what I was able to establish searching the forum points towards a faulty MAF. Even though several O2 fault codes appear in the list, am I correct to assume that they only reports the emission issues and that the actual item causing the problem is “upstream”. This leads me to believe that it may be the MAF to blame. P.S. A problem I’ve also been struggling from time to time is when accelerating the engine briefly “hesitates” going through the 4500 RPM range. This I also considered to be the MAF giving notice. The fault codes downloaded are listed below. Eagerly awaiting your responds. 2. I need to replace the bulb behind the digital clock/oil level indicator. I did find some treads addressing the removal of instrument clusters but nothing on the actual bulb replacement on an Instrument Cluster from a 96 Boxster? Any suggestions or experience in this regards will be appreciated Cheers
  3. I have a question on closing the hood. The hood’s rim does not automatically align/seat in the “channel” provided (refer attached photo). I have to manually align it half way through the closing stage. Is it a common issue? Any suggestion on how this can be resolved?
  4. There are several discussion topics making mention of the fact that the MAF can be cleaned. Are there any specific electric contact cleaning aerosol products recommended for the job. Cheers
  5. Just found another topic which addresses a similar issue http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...&hl=Shifter The article even supports a link to the installation instructions for a B&M shifter. http://www.bmracing.com/media/products/pdf/67.pdf I'll still appreciate any experiences you can share that will ease the job. Cheers
  6. The short shifter arrived today but before fitting it I'd like to get a few answers. 1. How is the gear knob attached to the gear leaver? My previous 944 used a simple clip to lock the knob in place, I do not see something similar on the Boxster's gear knob. 2. How do you detach the gear selector from its cradle? I assume the 2 nylon bushes needs to be forced out. P.S. Any hints and tips from someone that already performed the task will be appreciated. Cheers
  7. Thank you. This is exactly what the had in mind. I will follow the link and see where it leads to. :notworthy: Hopefully there is a distibutor in the UK as well.
  8. Sorry for the stupid question. There are various posts mentioning the CEL warning light. Which warning light is that and is it fitted to the older Boxster models too (1998). :lightbulb: Cheers
  9. Some of us are less fortunate than others. Some have covered parking at their place of work whiles other only have the benefit of open parking. With the Spring on our doorstep and hopefully a an excellent top down summer on its way I need to prepare myself for the shower of bird droppings when parking in the work’s open parking area. Last year wasn’t as big an issue as this year is going to be as the 944 has been replaced by a Boxster. The Hertforshire birds are well trained and do not miss a black fabric roof. :soapbox: I am sure there is some precautions that I can take. One option that I am considering is to get hold of a “shower cap” (I think that is what they are called) i.e. a cover that just covers the hood and windscreen, fits/removes in seconds. I have noticed that the MGFs has some doing the rounds and was wondering whether something similar is available for the Boxster. Any comments or suggestions please.
  10. This has been a subject that also interests me. Is it possible to have some before and after photographs. Cheers
  11. Following on from my previous mail where I reported a partial loss of power when puling away from a round-about, when staring the car up this morning the idling fluctuated (hunted) for about 30 seconds before it stabelised. Any suggestion as to what the cause of this could be ?
  12. Had a strange experience this afternoon. Coming of the A1 and pulling away at the roundabout the car lost power. I kept the engine running although it was spattering, gave a backfire. Nursed in order to get home and was running absolutely fine about a ½ a mile further. Any ideas as to what the problem could be. I assume the answer is going to be “MAF”. Any experiences with engine diagnostic software i.e. “Durametric”. There a few being advertised on e-bay and I am considering investing in one. Here is a link if you are interested. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...0720&rd=1,1 Cheers
  13. As of lately there is an annoying sound coming from behind the firewall of the passenger seat. It is a Tick-Tick sound 10-15 seconds apart when driving. It sounds like a solenoid/relay doing what it does. The sound is not evident when the car is stationary Any suggestions at to what it can be ? <_<
  14. The Boxster TSB 2/99 5726 – New Door Striker identifies a potential corrosion issue with Boxster with a VIN earlier than 98_YS 62 0343. Guess what, mine falls in this category. According to the TSM the door latch striker plate needs to be replaced with a item. Apparently the new striker plate is equipped with a film (on the side that contacts the body) to prevent corrosion. Peter Morgan’s Buyers’ Guide also discusses this topic but if I remember correctly rectified the problem by fitting a special gasket between the striker plate and the body. Any previous experiences and advice will be appreciated.
